On my drive home last night, I heard Laura Ingraham put it best.
It seems Hillary (yes, the same hillary who fought to give 16 year old the right to get abortions without parental consent) has come full circle on this. She has called abortion "sad, even tragic..."

Laura asked the question: "how many of our Constitutional Rights can be defined as 'sad' or 'tragic'"?

I can't put it better than that.

Well, here is MY opinion on abortion:

I think it is wrong and immoral to have an abortion. I also think that the technology cannot be "un-learned". We know how to do it and this is one of those debates that is split pretty much down the middle. If we make it 'illegal', people are going to do it anyway and then you've got more 'criminals' based on what half the country believes in.

Leave it as it is. It is the woman's right to choose, and there are consequences for the choices.

I don't know about wrong and immoral, but personally I don't think it should be used as a form of birth control. There are certainly less traumatic ways of doing that, but in the heat of the moment, as they say... It has to be up to the woman.

Like the debate on many of America's "social problems," the abortion debate takes place at the wrong end of the process. The point where pregnant women (and teen-age girls) are looking for a way out of a situation that seems totally hopeless to them is the wrong time to be discussing whether an abortion is right or wrong.

I think the debate should be about the "why" questions

>WHY do these women think abortion is the only way out...

>WHY are these women pregnant when science has given infinite ways (besides abortion) to prevent it...

>WHY are teen-age girls saying "yes" to boys when they know what can happen...

>WHY do we keep enabling the behavior by not sanctioning the boys - maybe castration after 2 unwanted pregnancies...

>WHY is it considered liberating to be able to kill your unborn child...

>WHY isnt adoption the first alternative...

There are so many unanswered questions and so little space to write.

Ok so we are talking anti abortion here ... I have a 5 year old and I am not anti abortion I just planned to have a child ... If I were 16 and had no husband and my parents couldnt afford to take care of another child I would not have it. And as far as adoption ... you know how many children are in foster care right now and have no parents?? Any idea how many more would be if abortion was not available?? How many more babies we would find in garbage cans?? I think its the quality of life you can give a child that matters. Its my body its my choice. I would rather a young girl have an abortion then throw a child in the garbage or be neglected and abused.

I'm not pro-abortion. I'm pro-choice. Back in my catholic days, I protested outside many clinics. Remeber that cliche "walk a mile in their shoes"? Well, it's true. Kelly was on the pill for 3 years before she got pregnant. The doctor said we just happened to fall into that dreaded .01% chance. Kelly's parents already told her that if she got pregnant to never come home. Knowing her parents, I was fully aware that they would probably kick her out onto the streets. Both of our incomes could barely support us while living at home, let alone a child.

We decided not to have an abortion and I'm now a 23 year old father. I thank everything everyday that we had the baby. However, I am still pro-choice. On a chance of luck, her parents did not put her out on the streets. If they did, perhaps she would have had to have an abortion. Perhaps she'd be one of the many beat-up prostitutes you see that do it to raise their children. I don't mean to sound harsh, but we can have another baby. We can't have another Kelly.

So, this choice would not have been about birth control. We were using birth control. We were not trying to dodge consequences as the mental anguish after the abortion would have been tremendous and consequences themselves. Adoption was not an option because Kelly's well being would be in equal jeapordy then having the baby.

Do I think 16 year olds should be able to have abortions without parental conscent? Yes, I do. I think pro-life activists often over-exaggerate the use of abortions as an everyday birth control method. I have witnessed several occurances where it was in everyones best interest to abort the fetus and leave it unknown. Yet, the image of the slutty 18 year old with a frequent flyer card for the abortion clinic serves the purpose of the pro-lifers much more then the scared, hopeless, and helpless 20 year old with nowhere to turn. We tried the church, Kelly's lifetime membership, and were turned away. Labeled as sinners. When your church turns you away and tells you that you're evil, you tend to lose all hope in life.

To this day, I celebrate that we did not have the abortion. I'm sure I could handle the everyday nagging inside my head, but my wife could not. However, being in that position, I can see when an abortion may be necessary.

Late term abortions, despicable. I'm glad they are outlawed and should never be legal again. Im firmly support the 6 month 24 days rule, and perhaps it should be lowered to 6 months.

Its easy for a man to post an opinion about things that do not affect their rights ...... but if your daughter were to get pregnant and she was still in high school .... would you tell her ok honey you just ruined your whole future now you have to have this baby... even if she gave it away for adoption ..... should she go to school and have people whisper about her and talk about her as she gets more and more pregnant .... miss out on all the dances and school events ...... or maybe quit school??? Go to night school maybe get a GED .... Then what??? What could she have done with her life if she didnt make that mistake and get pregnant. I am not saying use it as birth control but shouldnt she have the choice if she is ready for a child or not? I have known people who have had an abortion and it is no walk in the park .... they should have people who have had more then one be talked to and find out why ... and then step in and do something!

Cexshun,

Thank you for the very truthful point of view i could not have worded it better myself!! We can not group all women who want an abortion together.... people have different reasons ....

It's fun to be pro-choice. When does the "fetus" or glob of DNA get to make their choices?

Seems that some here in the thread can live with the decisions, and that's fine. Personally, I couldn't look at myself in the mirror if I made that kind of decision, but to rationalize it all away as a "choice", sure whatever makes YOU feel good, after all we're a instant gratification society. It's soooo convienent to "abort" instead of kill.

Why don't you close your freaking legs if that's the way you feel and for the love of Pete wear a t-shirt stating that you're a Nazi that likes to perform scientific experimentations on the womb!

Pro-choice is a nice way of saying murder.

....then ya' might know what its like to have to choose.....
I think that is the way the song goes.
I am inline with MAC, Cig and lovely on this one. I question the morality of it, but it is the woman's choice.
Now, for those shouting "MURDER", you ever been there?

didn't think so!

And, how many times have you entered a facility?
How many women do you know personnally that have had to face it?

It is funny to see Hilary find religion all of a sudden! Guess she sees the success of GWB and says "why not become a Christian for life"? LMAO

Abortion: In case of rape, incest, under age, yes! I am really not pro or con on this issue!

Relax cexshun, nobody is labeling you anything... as Sonny pointed out in the beginning of this thread.. "Debate" there isn't any name calling or labeling going on.. just discussion.. (for Once) LOL... your taking words being said the heart... as many do on the forum topics....

one thing I've noticed is that Ei made a very valid point and it flew over everyone's head...

btw I'm pro life course I think you all knew this.... until a fetus has a right to choose their own ways... they should be given the chance to do so... the only time I think it should be a womans choice is if it were for certian a life and death matter of the child after birth or the mother... and there are allot of mothers in this world that this was a risk for and they went ahead and had the child anyway and glad they did!!!!

I'm proudly married to one of these women!!!!

Love13 your explination sounds like the easiest way out of a debate....course nowadays everyone looks for the easy ways to get through life!!!!

re-read EI's post and think about it a minute ;0)
