Whats going on with these guys bidding on the ENTIRE lot quanity in every auction that they enter???? Don't tell me they want 10 Gringo III packages, 5 digital hygrometers and 4 boxes of the same cigar every time they bid!! It is really starting to PISS me off!

I have noticed one user who I will not mention here that bids for the entire quantity of everything they bid on. I don't know what this clown thinks he is accomplishing by doing this, but by shutting out everyone else from the lot all he is doing to guaranteeing that the lot is going to sell for at least his bid limit! if it is within reason, which is usually is!

Either that guy is a retailer that is trying to get stuff lower than his wholesale price (with him in the auction FORGET IT!), someone who thinks that this retarded technique is some kind of ingenious way to scam the system ,or a plant for CB out to prop up the winning bid price of their auctions.

Anyone else seeing this going on? Should I complain to CB about this bidder's selfish technique?

I have yet to see this person actually WIN one of these auctions. They usually end up getting knocked out at the last minute, but every auction they enter closes with a higher bid price than the same lot the pervious time.

My point being, that nothing is accomplished other than this person getting IN THE WAY of serious bidders

If this person HAD the GOLD, I seriously doubt they would be using such a LAME and obviously useless technique to score stuff at a good price.

I think you find most, if not all, of what they do win will show up on a competing non-business-to-consumer auction site. Some of these guys that are bidding over here in the manner you have described have a side business auctioning smokes on that board. I think it stinks, but there is little, if anything, that can be done. Cheers!!!

I've seen bidding on all the lots as a strategy here before. Say you get in early and there are multiple lots, bid them all fast and low. Here's where it gets tricky. If you're lucky you may end up with 1 at a decent price hoping that other bidders will bid them away from you, otherwise you get them all. I've seen it work for some people, pay $35 and everyone else pays$40 or more. Of course some people may have other reasons (retailers looking for a deal, stupid people, or someone with money that wants them all really bad). Barry

How I wish people would bother to do a little pricing research instead of allowing themselves to be ripped off.

I think in this case it is just a STUPID person who somehow thinks they have come up with a "cunning plan" to win auctions at a lower price. As I said, not only are they not accomplishing their goal, they are costing all of the other bidders money due to their stupid concept that by bidding on the whole lot, they are going to scare other bidders away.

Everytime I see an auction with this idiot involved, I add it to my watch list, hoping that one of these days, this clown is going to get stuck with 10 of something at at retail! ;o)

I forgot to add that anyone that thinks this technique works is SADLY MISTAKEN.

You are far more likely to get the item at a lower price by bidding on a single and keeping your fingers crossed that it takes a while to attract enough bidders to start pushing your auto-bid button.

By bidding on the entire quantity, all you are accomplishing is a guaranteed JUMP of the lot's high bid to your bid limit if the item in question is popular and your bid limit is within the range most people would set their own bid limit.

This isn't rocket science, but I think the situation helps demonstrate that some people SHOULD NOT be allowed to use the internet until they pass an IQ test! ;o)

Like the saying goes at the poker table: "Bid your own hand". You can't depend on what a sucker will do. I had a guy go off on me once on the blackjack table at a casino in Vegas. Seems I didn't play the way he wanted me to. You can probably guess what my reply to him was. Nothing against you GG. Sometimes you just gotta bitch.

I think the thing that bugs me the most about this practice is how incredibly SELFISH it is.

I would NEVER bid on a quantity of items I really didn't want or need just to save a few bucks while screwing all the other bidders in the process.

If the technique actually worked that would be one thing, but this dork hasn't won't a single fricking auction he has started with this BS. All he has accomplished is to push the price of the winning bid into the double digits within minutes of the opening bell!

I am sure KARMA will get the better of him sooner or later. ;o)

It also seems to me that if you just wait a week or two, the same lots keep reapearing. So if you wait it out you can usually just pick it up at a later date after the RUN on it is over,so multi quanity bidding is not neccesary to get a good price. Off the subject a little but I also notice that most people dont factor in the shipping charges when they talk about the "great" price they got on an item

You've got to remember also, many retailers buy stuff here to stock their shelves at their 'brick and mortar'. I see the same ones bidding on a lot of merchandise. If they win, a lot of times they can get it cheaper than they can wholesale ...

Nothing can be done about it, really.

GG, like it was said, just wait a week and usully the same lot will come up fo bid again, If you're persistant you'll get a decent deal. I won a bid on the El Grande Humidor for $90 after loosing 5 or 6 times at prices twice that. Never give up! Barry

Sadly, it's not just one bidder... there seems to be a rash of these pricks lately. I can identify three: one in CA, one in NY, and another in GA.

If this guy is reading this, I hope he gets a clue and knocks it off, UNLESS he really wants to win all those things. As for the waiting for the next lot to appear, sometimes I want to get something to go with another item for a weekly shipment and thus, I don't want to wait another week. I try to bid early, but once in awhile I am away when something I want opens.

Every now and again, take the box price of a certain cigar you would buy, and compare the amount of 5ers it would take, and what the avg price of those are. Occ., you can pick up a box, or get enough to replenish your box, at a lower cost. (inc shipping. 4-5 5ers with a sampler is only 2-2.5)
