Ok, so I looked up more info cause I really wanted to smoke and Anejo with my rum tonight. I found that they are not necessarily ruined/lost. I wouldn't have worried about it if I hadn't forgotten them when I was in the area today. Anyhow, I clipped the foot very close and there was nothing else there. Most likely the problem had just started to take hold. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone not smoking a HTS (have to smoke). But just like vintage cigar smokers feel like it's an issue that can be reasonably dealt with, so do I. It tastes good to me. I'll never pass one along. And they are currently in segregation housing.

You smoked spores...you will now die.

Goodbye.

to be fair, he;s not actually going to die... right away... there's some funky stuff growing inside his lungs though... they'll start to feel heavy over the next 24 hours and then they'll start to feel itchy, and then he'll probably have bronchitis for a few weeks...

Spores, beetle eggs, pollen, bug crap, wiped my a$$ and didn't wash my hands torcedor, adds to the distinctive flavor profile, it's all by products of burning leaf. Glad you saved them and they rest are quarantine. Enjoy.

Mycologically speaking, you should make yourself aware of the potential risks. You don't want to be sneezing mycelium.

One of my nephews told me had some white stuff on a couple of cigars. Had them on the wrapper as well as on the foot. Told him to toss them but he asked if he used a lower RH and IF the white stuff went away, if they'd be safe to smoke? I didn't think so but I'm not an expert so thought I'd ask for thoughts from fellow / more experienced cigar smokers.

Lowering the RH won't make the existing mold go away. It might help stopping it from spreading. If it's the white mold, some say and I've also read that you can just brush it off and it will be fine. If it's a blue-green mold, do not smoke it. Personally I wouldn't smoke it if it had mold on it. Maybe if it's just a little bit of white mold I might just wipe it off, snip back the foot a bit and smoke it. If there was a lot of white mold, I'd just toss them (how's that on being definitive?).

I'd also quarantine the non-mold cigars, spray the humi down with Lysol*, wipe it down to rid it of any remnants of mold and recharge it before reintroducing the good ones back into the humi.

* The Lysol comment is a joke.

I have heard that as long as it is just a small amount on the wrapper leaf it can be brushed off but iffn it is in the inside it should be tossed.

Or you could try putting it in the microwave for 30 seconds on the popcorn setting. 😇

It didn't occur to me to use electromagnetic radiation on them. That might just work. :-k

Popcorn setting would definitely result in some pops.

Also being certain that it is actually mold and not cigar plume would be prudent.

I'm ok with wiping a little mold off and smoking it. A little. If it's on the foot, I might clip it and see if there is any about a half inch in. If so, I'd toss it.

The picture in the quote you posted, Conan, I'd be ok with wiping that off the outside. It's white. Looking at the feet, it would depend, like I said above, on whether it really did get inside.
