I have been frustrated over the years with butane lighters. Almost every one, for one reason or the other, stops working. Some I have bought and some I have received as a "package deal" with a box of cigars. They all suck. I have, as a result, been using disposable Bic lighters which function well (but not as well as a torch lighter.) The advantage of this is that I don't have to worry about repairs, maintenance or "warranties." I know this is not "green" which must upset some of my liberal friends and tree-huggers, but, at present, I see no other way. Any suggestions that don't cost a bundle???

Buy them cheap here and know in your mind that if you get a year out of it...you got a deal for 10 bucks.

Spend over 100 bucks for a big time lighter and when it goes belly up in a year we'll hear about it.

I have the quad flame Jetline and never had an issue with it.

I have a Vector Diesel, been using it over two years has never givin me a problem I think paid around 60 bucks for it.

Can get them on eBay for 47 bucks.

Bought a couple Lotus only to have them quit within a few weeks. Even sent them back for repair only to have them returned in working order and quit again in a few weeks. I've given up on all lighters, especially at an altitude of over 6,500ft. Z even sent me a Ronson that only worked a half-dozen times before quitting.

I have 3 Ronson jetlites that I can pick from. If I'm going on a short day trip I always bring a backup with me.

$3 each at Walmart. Damn near a disposable lighter for that price. They can be difficult at times so a spare is generally a good idea. For the price it's a no brainer.

$60 for a lighter? I could buy a lot of jetlites for that amount of money.

I have a Moretti Quad and a nice Xikar twin-flame that are both working fine. Unfortunately I also have a Bugatti B-1 Torch that quit working after a few weeks.
A month or so ago, I was in Texas and bought some cigars at Specs (Ithink that was the name of the place). At the counter was a cheap disposable jet lighter. Thing was still working till I lost it.
The Moretti is great...it just goes through fuel with those 4 jets. I am hoping the Xikar holds up for more than a few weeks. Otherwise I will be like you trying to fine a reliable lighter.

Get yourself some Jetline lighters.
At least one each. (single, double, triple, quad flame.)

One breaks, send it back and they will replace it free.

Most common malfunction?
Clogs due to cheap butane.
Use only butane which has been filtered at least seven times (7x).

Mark has it right- my favorite lighter is a dual flame Jetline. Everything else seems to have problems. I've got several Chinese made lighters (most are decorative) that seem to be working pretty well so far. but I always bring along a non-refillable cheap Chinese made for back-up tho. Never cared for matches

I have had 2 Bugatti B-2002 lighters for 7-8 months that never fail to perform. I know...not a long time and time will tell...but I have over 2 dozen others that I have retired to a cigar box and several more that got flung in the woods after only a matter of days. They can be had here for 16 or so. The only drawback are that the flame will need adjustment at least once each tankful (screwdriver) and also I would prefer my thumb to be a little further from the flame. Key point...never fails to perform. I also have had good luck with the xikar executive. I have bought 6 of these in the same time frame and they all still work. They will fail to light once in a while but a blast of compressed air cures them every time. 7 bucks each. Hope this helps.

the jetlites are good and work well for the money.

I have a jetline table top that I got from a BOTL here. Its awesome. Never had an ounce of trouble with it.

The "Z" inserts for the Zippos work pretty well if you have to have a torch lighter.

I have seen very few lighters that couldn't be easily fixed. The ones that can't usually have been left out in the car in the summer and the butane has exanded and burst the seal. Those you throw away.

Regular fixes for lighters that won't light. Make sure you purge all of the air out before refilling with butane.

If that doesn't work, Grab a q-tip and dip the swab in Vodka, grain alcohol or the like and clean the head of the lighter really good and let it air dry.

The other thing is to take a can of compressed air and blow out the head. This gets the little pieces out that keep it from lighting.

These three things have fixed a ton of lighters that me and my buddies were ready to throw away.

Ronson jetlites are great for $3 but the flame is small. There is a simple fix you can find on Youtube to increase the flame and make them much better.

Have a old jetline single in my golf bag and was just gifted a beautiful one from Burner02 in our Iron Bowl wager. They work great. Use the good butane.

I had a Prometheus and a Zippo torch - both leaked gas and were empty after a day or two. Not worth the hassle or the inconvenience.

Others have already stated before me, but use QUALITY butane. Makes a big difference over time.

I've been pretty happy with the cheap lighters I've gotten here and CI MMAO. All work, and I think all were 10 or less.

I think my favorite is my Colibri "jet" single flame. Though it has a small tank, only good for maybe 6-10 cigars if I toast the foot, it's been perfectly reliable despite going through the wash a couple times, being left out in the rain and generally being abused.

The Ronson Jetlites are good too. Sometimes can be kinda finicky when refilling.

Good butane will go farther than anything else when it comes to lighters.

Bugatti 2001_2 have had both for approx 2 yrs...good butane,purge every once in awhile...great lighter under 20$

One of the locals sells Jetline triple flames for 8.99. they work good.
