Been to 4 or 5 operas over the years and enjoyed the hell out of them, Tosca, Barber of Seville and The Mikado to name a few.

I am however a bigger fan of the music itself. And in that vein there is nothing quite like the 3 Tenors original concert, particularly the segment when they sing Pavarotti's signature aria, Nessun Dorma, followed by O Sole Mio...operatic gold IMHO.

Excuse me while I get dressed, we're late for the ballet. In the meantime, enjoy the clip.

Just looked it up, this season we are going to see Don Giovanni, La Boheme, madame butterfly, and dream of the red chamber. Should be fun.
May even try to get tickets to the opening gala where they're premiering Andrea Chenier....

I understand the sentiment, though I'm not sure I completely agree. In the abstract, any spectator event can be considered the same, but the Habanera is very different than a touchdown. Sorry Victor.

That being said, I'm not a big sports guy and I'd take tickets to the opera over any game, any day.

(It's ok, make fun.)

Hmhaines gets my point. It's all a spectator event, whether you're watching a performance of an opera, a play, a TV show, a sporting event... You're just watching something. None of these are any more or less meaningful.

I personally don't like watching sports... Seems odd to me to watch someone else get exercise...or to cheer for the success or failure of a team you have no true affiliation with.

A play or an opera seems less confusing to me in that regard.

RUGBY IS AWESOME.

Fight Clubs are an acceptable substitute if you can't find a rugby league or an opera house.

See. There's a smart man.

Although I don't really enjoy watching rugby either unless I'm affiliated with one of the teams....
