What if they just used the 15k to buy books, and toilet paper, nutritious food, and hire quality teachers? They aren't building schools (usually charter schools) these days bc people "care".

What really pisses me off is the damn Lottery.. it was suppose to contribute like 70% of the funds into education when we voted on it... now I think they barely contribute 30%. If that..!! 😠

Beats the scam they have going in California... they say a large portion of Lottery proceeds are contributed to the educational system, but what actually happens is when X amount of dollars of Lottery money come into the schools, X amount of state money is withdrawn... the school doesn't benefit, state politicians do...

Not much industry growth here in da swamp. You have your well-to-do cities like any other states. You also have struggling small towns that commerce pulled out of years ago... Just like other states. With low taxes and property values, there isn't much need for high paying jobs. Mississippi has a struggle getting doctors to practice in the state for this very reason. It's a reflection of today's economy. They just felt like poking Mississippi today.

With all the bears, hawgs, gators, Cougars, and venomous snakes in all flavors, The politicians ain't the only predators round' here.

After swapping a few texts with Frank, I decided to pop in.

Just to clear the air....

It's the poor democratic communities that are against the charter school idea.
These schools, in the article, that are poor is no fault of the government. See a school receives money based on attendance. If parents don't make kids attend, the school district doesn't get that money.
So it's the parents that allow kids to skip or drop out that are the root cause.
My son attends a nice public school. The school begs me to get a dr excuse if he's absent. That way the missed day is excused and doesn't cost funds.

Also it's the democrats that are fighting against charter schools. They don't want that money to leave.

So know the facts before pointing a finger.

For the most part, schools are controlled by the teacher's unions who overwhelmingly support Democratic candidates. Is it any wonder why Democrats are against anything that would reduce their power? Yet, they blame Republicans for ruining schools and people actually believe what they say.

So how do you fix the problem Mattie? What you say may all be true, but a problem still exists.

You can't regulate parents to care/invest is their children.

My solution would be charter schools. If kids don't perform or attend, kick them out to the public school system.
Our district has what they call the alternative school. This is a campus for those with disciplinary issues They get the attention they need and remove them from those who are willing to act right.

Kids need to learn there are consequences for action, or rewards. I think that lesson has been lost.
