Adam Carolla: Everything is ‘gone as far as the eye can see’

Carolla talks about the homeless and makes an excellent point.

I haven't heard a cause, but it doesn't take much in that dry country. Besides the pervert arsonists it's super easy to get a fire going there.

I once managed it while cutting weeds with a hoe, the wood and metal sort. Another time with a cigarette butt that fell into a very weathered, splintered and old six inch thick plank and caught that on fire. In both cases we immediately put out the fires, but it was astonishing how quickly they got going.

Los Angeles Fire Dept DEI video that’s rocking the world. Short version: Need rescuing? It’s your fault

By
Suzanne Downing -
January 10, 2025

A diversity-equity-inclusion video from the Los Angeles Fire Department has surfaced, in which the deputy chief, an overweight woman, says if you need to be rescued, it’s your fault: You we’re “in the wrong place.”

Deputy Fire Chief Kristine Larson says the department priority is that residents in crisis are rescued by first responders that “look like” them.

“You want to see somebody that responds to your house, your emergency—whether it’s a medical call or a fire call—that looks like you,” Larson says.

“It gives that person a little bit more ease, knowing that somebody might understand their situation better,” Larson continues. “‘Is she strong enough to do this,'” Larson asked, rhetorically answering criticism she has heard. “Or ‘You couldn’t carry my husband out of a fire.’ Which my response is, ‘He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.'”

Gene when I saw the parked cars I was wondering if those roads had the jackass bike lanes……

Oregon DOT has been bitten by the watermelon bug (green on the outside, red in the middle) for some time. They mandated bike lanes in the stupidest of areas, one just on the northern entrance to Ashland (💩hole hippie town) they took 4 lanes down to 2…..Ive LITERALLY NEVER SEEN A BIKE THERE BEFORE OR AFTER.

We just started getting them here (and roundabouts!) you outta see what they did on Main St here….there was 3 lanes (25 mph) and there was a NORMAL bike lane on both sides of the road. Now the left lane is now two lanes (both directions) and cars park on that side of the road almost in the middle of the road instead of by the curb. Dumbest 💩 I’ve ever seen.

I just assumed seeing those parked cars that traffic was more bottleneck Ed than it needed to be.

Hey NEWSOME AND BASS....

IF YOU DONT HAVE FRESH WATER...
THEN...

JUST USE THE OCEAN WATER...
BUILD TEMPORARY PIPELINES UP TO THE FIRE AREAS...

SCREW THE SALT CONTENT...
YOU AINT SPRAYING FARM LAND...
AND THE SALT will f#ck up the soil and kill the scrub brush from returning in mass...then it will be MUD SLIDES...

YOU CANT WIN...

THEY SHOULD FORCE ALL REBUILDS TO BE CONCRETE 3-D PRINTED FIREPROOF CONSTUCTION...
NO WOOD AT ALL, NO WOOD SHINGLES ( ALL METAL ROOFS ) ONLY
FIREPROOF RECONSTUCTION SHOULD BE ALLOWED.

Absolutely! Even an attic vent can get a fire resistant home to burn down when high winds push burring embers inside.

They have several fire boats that could push salt water ashore. Sal Mercogliano a shipping expert and former firefighter made the same point in response to an article saying ti was a bad idea. The article has a greenie bent and says salt water would be bad.

Sacramento Bottles Up 60 Oregon Firetrucks Sent to Assist California Fire Fight, Lacking Smog Certificates

I saw it on X but then found it in the Santa Monica Observer

"I just heard from my brother" tweets Parker Caldwell, "a firefighter in Central Oregon, that the 60 firetrucks the state sent to support the LA fires are being held up in Sacramento for 'emissions testing.' They likely won't pass inspection and won't be able to help... What a joke."

"Update from our EF&R strike team leader - crews are going through inspection in Davis, California. They have been assigned to the #PalisadeFire which is currently 6% contained. Safe travels to our team! #CaliforniaWildfires #wafirefighters"

Absurd or is it Sublime? They should send them back to Oregon.
Don't want to add to the poor air quality. 😣

The Palistine OH people got ignored by the feds. People in the western Carolina area are still in tents.
The Blue Prez (either through incompetence, corruption, or both) was slow to react.

Wouldn't it be fair to say California should be in line behind the suffering of those above groups?
At least they have a Blue Prez to help them through this..... for 9 days.

Interesting, to say the least on how the politics on this goes in the coming months.

Ummm... kinda of a humanitarian issue so they should accept all the help they can get.

Others: We are here help you guys out.
CA: Sounds good.. but do your vehicles comply with CA emissions requirements? You must pass our emissions requirements.
Others: WTF? I'm pretty sure the fires don't pass your emissions requirements, did you ask them? Do you want help or not?
CA: Only if you pass our emissions requirements.
Others: "FU then, load up guys, we are outta here. They really don't want help when help is needed."

No disrespect to folks I know that live in CA but let CA burn while Nero plays the fiddle.

just more misinformation from CA haters...here's da facts...

https://kval.com/news/local/fact-check-oregon-fire-engines-allowed-to-fight-wildfires-in-california

the fire suppression water systems in the Pacific Palisades were designed for municipal fire fighting, not for huge wind-blown wildfires fed by dry vegetation after months of drought conditions...still, a reservoir that fed the system and may've helped, was empty, being serviced because of a torn cover...the high winds prevented airborne fire fighting equipment from dropping large amounts of water...unfortunate timing and unusual conditions...

unexpected/unprepared? cuz January is not usually the high fire season in California, which is from summer to fall...looking back in history for the dates of the worst fires in California, this is the first to happen in January...weather extremes are making this a new normal, so we have to be better prepared.

Got it.

I believed it immediately based on prior real, confirmed, silly/dumb decisions made by the state government there.

So they did stop the Oregon rigs for an inspection. A rather strange and officious thing to do during an emergency. I don't think that is the practice for accepting support from neighboring counties, the Forrest Service or any of the leased aircraft firefighting equipment. Perhaps when they make agreement for mutual support, but not during an emergency.

People do like to sling blame, but it's not like the Santa Anna winds are a new and novel occurrence, they have plagued SOCAL forever. I recall a large apartment development in Orange County destroyed by fire when we still lived in Laguna Nigel. There has always been a battle over roofing, fire resistant material, fiire breaks around homes and the management of brush on open land.

SOCAL is a desert. No amount of imported water is ever going to change that. People must learn to live in that environment or suffer the consequences. No politician of any party, gender, color etc etc, ad nasem or no government program is ever going to change that.

I don't hate California, I'm a native, but too many Californians are living in a dream state.
