sort of a rocky story. i watched it with subtitles. i never could understand rap and the movie really never went past the contests which seem to be who can outinsult the other the most.

what he said on the special effects interview was older people and others not interested in rap won't understand the reason for competition, but if you ar in it, winning is very important. lose and you lose your rep. i'm not "in" it but i understand where he is coming from.

i have no desire to listen to any rap in the future.

Going with what you said about kids love to imitate their parents.....NOT TRUE. Humans are born with the instinct of right and wrong. I, myself, was born to a 15 year old drug addicted mother. I knew what was good and bad (right and wrong), and CHOSE to behave the way that I knew was right. Now, I am a 29 year old 1st Class Petty Officer in MY United States Navy, and have never done any drugs, and very rarely drink.

You just don't get it Dr. Rap isn't about the music. Its about the beat and the lyrics. So he doesn't play a guitar. That doesn't mean he isn't talented. I would hazard a guess that Liberache played the Piano a lot better then Paul McCaartney, Neil Peart, and Peter Gapbriel combined. (an yes I know who they are I just am not familiar with their lyrics because I don't like their style of music so I don't listen to it) So by your logic Liberache should be hailed as a musical God.

As far as "Checking the tape" I think you should do so yourself. I know some Johnny Cash songs. I've heard him. I'm not impressed (but then again I'm not impressed by any Country performer). And like I said I mentioned that song because it popped into my head quickly and I didn't feel like do a search online for a better example.

If you knew what Peter was writing about you wouldn't come off as a big jerk! That song for your information is about his drug addiction and his sobering trials. Then again, it didn't have anything to do with rape, graphic killing or brutilizing women!

I didn't read the lyrics like I said I'm not into those artists. (but I remembered shock the monkey because Coal Chamber and Ozzy did a remake). And no I didn't know it was about drug addiction. The lyrics where so vague I thought it was about him hunting in Africa.

I do find it interesting that you detest Eminem for rapping about himself and the problems he's had in the past. Yet you praise other artists for doing that same thing. Again why is it ok for one genre but not another. This is the question you keep avoiding.

All those great 60's rock band were caked in drugs and sex. Hendrix, Rolling Stones, The Who, Zeppelin. I love their music, but I hope my kids don't live like them. But I feel if a parent teaches their kids right, it doesn't mattter what music is playing, they will turn out to be good kids.

And again Eminem will be around for a while, and he is bigger then Peter Gabriel will ever be. It's a new generation, and a new style. Hate it or embrace it, but its still gonna be.

Choner, rap is on it's last leg. There's nothing left to it and that's why it has to shock the listener. It has no redeeming factor.

I remember when I brought home my first Frank Zappa and the mothers album. My parents reacted much the way some of you are reacting to this rapper. They were shocked by the lyrics and banned my Zappa albums from the house. One day long after I grew up and moved out, my father came by to visit, I didn't know he was coming by and had, "were only in it for the money" by Zappa and the mothers playing, on my stereo. He heard the lyrics to "cops killed a freak". He asked me, "Is this song about Kent State?" I said nope, it predated Kent State by almost two years. He has a new appreciation for Zappas music.
I'm not saying that anyone here will learn to appreciate, emeineme or however you spell that no talent hacks name, couldn't resist, but the point is he kept an open mind. I do not like rap, bua as a writer I must respect their use of meter to evoke emotion. Though I find their poetry sick and degrading, as many of you do, they do a good job getting the emotional response that they are looking for. I find rap music, very one dimensional, much like a 5-vegas, I cannot say that they are without talent. Just not as talented as Frank Zappa, Getty Lee, Arlo Guthrie, or John Prine. More along the lines of Elvis Presley, he didn't write his own music either, but the public crowned him King. Just goes to show you. You don't have to be a great talent to make it big in America, just draw enough attention to yourself. I mean, I mean, hell the dixie chicks just sold out Alltel arena, in Little Rock Arkansas, after that bitch Maines said what she did. Oh Well I degress, starting to ramble. I'll post this and see what kind of reaction this gets.
