So now you can take your pretend kids in Georgetown and sign them up for the Boy Scouts.

After rubby practice...of course!

I get what you are getting at, that whether it be gay, straight, male, or female our kids still run a pretty much from just about anybody. And that our preconceived notion that pedophiles are mostly found by people who are gay, is flawed. I get it. Now having said that, you have to realize that this is not a perfect world where everything will be politically correct. Different cultures, backgrounds, religious preferences, will influence the way we think and act. What you may find normal to you, may be offensive to someone else, this is simply the world we live in. You can preach all want, and you may end up swaying a few people to think like you. But not everyone will accept your sense in logic and cling to their beliefs, right or wrong. In the end we simply end up putting our faith into the hands of people who we believe we can trust. Ultimately it is up to us to try to choose wisely those individuals that we will entrust our children with, and hopefully these individuals will to act accordingly and not betray our trust.

We may have, at some point. And my position has always been that a private organization can do whatever they want (I believe there are some issues with public access the BSA enjoys but that's part of a different discussion). The BSA made a change for whatever reason they chose to make the change.

So, we now are at the discussion we're having.

I thought we were discussing whether they are considering making a change or considering bowing to pressure.

So asking the question of whether it was internal change or bowing to pressure is now defined as "outrage"?

Sounds like "outrage" to me....

Hell... how many times is "caved to pressure" used in this thread?

It's not just THIS thread!

I'm thinking of adding more KMB to the portfolio...what with all the Kleenex he's churning through crying about militant homosexual repression, rubby and menancing...big...throbbing...red letters!

You sound like an optimist...
I doubt a single person in this forum, who doesn't already agree with me, would agree with me after a discussion. No one sways anyone else here. This is all tilting at windmills.

Don't be so cynical in making blank statements like that. Absolutely not true. You, Rick, and others that I normally don't agree with have swayed me on occasion or at the very least made me question my stance.

Not entirely sure what your getting at but yeah, I'm an optimist. And for once I agree with you, the chances of swaying someone here is pretty much nil.

edit: I stand corrected by Bloody, so there is at least some chance.

Why do people type large fanciful debates here if they believe the chances of swaying someone here is pretty much nil? Do they just like to hear themselves talk or are they drama queens?

"In which you claim no position"....

A fancy way of saying "You haven't claimed a position".

As in you never stated what your position was....

Let me amend that... I imagine you as an overly-lubed buttplug in the colors of the french flag, unfortunately misplaced in an unreachable crevice....

... Ah yes... a quick resort to the "you must be gay" tactic... brilliant, and absolutely novel in the internet forums...

I don't know what to do... you're statement has caused me to question my entire life, which nothing before ever has.

I've been mailing it in here for years. You should be more attentive....and make more compelling arguments. What is the value of having an argument where from the outset you state that you will change nobody's mind? I would rather paint my house or organize a sock drawer.

Absolute as opposed to partial truth or truth by omission (white lie).

If Adroomi believed in questioning everything then I am in agreement despite arriving at that conclusion from opposite ends of the political spectrum.

Or at the bottom of my bottle of vodka......

Ask me why Victor? I enjoy our loving sword fights (see what I did there?) and I posed the question at the beginning out of curiosity of BSA choice and its cause. Not as an experiment to quantify a scientific theory I matly have or call names like you do sometimes with a thread that is controversial. Really a much more simple question than what this thread has morphed into but we all have our roles here. Georgetown hero or Conservative heel ( <----wrestling terms......see what I did there?) I think we all enjoy being here and some like me, Bloody and others enjoy challenging our own convictions and listening to a differing opinion.

YMMV.

"Challenging our own convictions" (beautifully said) See? The alzheimers hasn't kicked in yet. I still appreciate nuances. Don't have a clue what YMMV means however- "you're my man victor"??? Ok, ok, that's not funny.Sad

I think that fellas who immediately go into attack mode w/o "listening" have been rapped on the snout with a newspaper once too often. I've been guilty of that when it involved the topic of vaccines among other things.

I just wanted to weigh in;

Truth is mutable. If there could be an absolute truth, it would be that there is no absolute truth.

No, no by all means. I love to learn.

So you're saying truth is mutable or changeable and thus nothing can ever be true? But wouldn't that be if it resided only in our intellectual makeup at the moment? However, some say that when truth is properly understood, it is immutable. The truths are greater than the mind actually, and the mind is subject to the truth. If truth resided only in our intellects, then you are correct, all truth would ultimately be mutable and nothing could then be true. So truth in our minds is quite mutable because we can change opinions based on data and experience. BUT in divine intellect, truth is most certainly unchanging. This is the way that a fallible and finite mind can know immutable truths.

Oops, but you CAN'T believe in something that your senses can't experience, can you?

Relax bloody, I am pointing out that what we think of as truth is a matter of our perception and point of view. It is an human abstract.

How divinity got drug into this is . . . . worrisome.

And I do believe in a great many things that my five senses cannot detect.
