We? Fk that sh*t. I drank mine with cream and sugar. Could still stand a spoon in it.

I drink it black now, but it's better coffee and it's pressed.

(and I'm intermittent fasting and I can't use my favorite creamer)

I learned to drink coffee from Chief Dix...…….if you even reached for sugar or creamer he might bite your arm off.I never gave it a second thought,I like my arm.Plus the respect I had for that man was second only to my Grandfather.

Of the 3 Islays I sampled this weekend - Lagavulin 8 (sipping on a glass of it now) pleased my pallet the most - MACS (or anyone who has experience on the subject) what would you say the difference is between an 8 year and 16 year? Does the 16 mellow/smooth out? My thinking is to work through these 3 before moving up on the Islay shelf - at this point 16 year would likely be wasted on me. :)

Laphroiag 10 was horrible to me. 15 was pretty damn good.

Never tried anything other than Lagavulin 16, so I am no help there... but I liked the 16 better than the Laphroiag 15.

Taste is subjective, bro. You may not like what I like... but since I am not a big fan of the Islays, and I really like the Lagavulin 16... it stands to reason you will like it.

Myself either......JBB is a nice value bourbon that meets all my requirements as a decent sipper.

JD has only one redeeming quality...…..if you like how it went down it taste exactly the same coming up.Although the burnt charcoal flavor does enhance the stomach bile to some degree.

BTW almost all if not all bourbon is made with sour mash.Sour mash just means that the mash from a previous batch, which still has live yeast, is added to the current one to start the fermentation process. Using the sour mash from a previous batch helps with consistency and prevents bacteria growth that could taint the bourbon.

Thank you for the sour mash education.

Makes sense. BTCM Jack DeLucas had that effect on me. But he nurtured my "I'll do it my way" attitude and expected me to get the job done right, but not necessarily the way he would do it.

I still remember I was an E-4 when he retired... I saw him in the Navy Exchange after I made chief. I was wearing my khakis and I walked into the store and saw him. Dude bear hugged me and said, "Boy, I knew you had it in you!"

He worked for Public Works after he retired and any time he saw my wife he would always ask how I was doing and tell her he was so proud of me. Love that man.

Funny how old khaki clad grizzly bastids can make such an impact on our lives.I suppose all of us who served had a few......some just made more impact than others and a couple I would've tossed overboard could I have gotten them outside the skin of the ship at dark thirty.

For his royal "Jack" izonfire.

Jack and Coke popsicles.

Popsicle molds of your choosing
5 fluid ounces of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey
20 fluid ounces Coke, flattened (pour into a bowl and allow to sit until no more carbonation is present; about 1 hour)
3 Simple Steps:
Pour 1/2 ounce of Jack Daniels into each popsicle mold. Pour 2 ounces of the flattened Coke into the mold
Cover and insert wooden sticks.
Freeze for 4-5 hours or overnight.

Yup, that’s it. Cheers.

It’s interesting how taste perception differs from person to person. I find it pleasantly sweet. Monkeys Shoulder aside, it’s my go-to, or at least it’s a toss up between it and Aberlour 12.

more of a bourbon guy so that may play into it, but I like doublewood 12 better than caribbean.

I get it. Not a big bourbon guy, so I stick pretty much with what I know I enjoy, typically Wild Turkey. I have learned that with scotch, I don’t get a bang for my buck on a lot of the pricier scotches. I suspect my palate is not refined enough to warrant the money for additional aging.

Wild Turkey is fantastic.

But you should have at least 6 bourbons on rotation so that you notice the subtleties and unique characteristics of each. You’ll refine your tastes and appreciate the craft much sooner.
