SAN JOSE, Calif. —Protests outside a Donald Trump rally in downtown San Jose spun out of control Thursday night when some demonstrators attacked the candidate’s supporters.

Protesters jumped on cars, pelted Trump supporters with eggs and water balloons, snatched signs and stole “Make America Great” hats off supporters’ heads before burning the hats and snapping selfies with the charred remains.

So much for civil discourse. fog

"I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech," Rawlings-Blake said Saturday as Baltimore roiled following the funeral of Freddie Gray, the black man who died in police custody April 19.

"It's a very delicate balancing act because while we try to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well, and we work very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to de-escalate."

I think they have tried this in non sacristy cities though. It's interesting that anyone would think responsible gun owners would use them to take action.

One solution doesn't fit all

So what is the answer?

Are these otherwise law abiding folks just suppose to allow themselves to be beaten and their cars stood upon and stopmed etc.
isn't that just what they're for? If ones life or property are being threatened or in this case ( beaten and bloodied and my car is being stomped ) are they NOT justified in using force? What the hell are they for if not to protect?

And Hello :)

And no that's not what they are for. Try pulling your gun on someone stomping on your car and see how it goes for you.

Ok. In that instance you pull a gun and go to jail. Since I can carry too and you pulled first it could get messy. Assuming either of us live your legal issues are greater than mine.

I don't think so. since the law does not allow for you to stomp my car in the first place.
I'm a law abiding citizen, I won't pull it if I don't intend to use it....in this instance you May get the ball bat first, maybe

I think ball bats were allowed there thus that point is moot.

Just another example of how democrats protest.

But......the narrative, and who goes to jail never seems to stay the same the other way.

you have to prove that you are in reasonable fear of excessive bodily harm or death, rape, kidnapping, etc

one guy stomping your car...i think the aforementioned is hard to prove

it gets more interesting if there is a mob bashing in your windows but the burden of proof would be on you

if you are in wv or texas you probably walk

if you are in jersey, chicago, dc, etc then flip a coin

This has nothing to do with "how Democrats protest". We've seen violence from Democrats, Republicans and tea parties. (although I think TW is right and we're seeing the roving band of occupoopers rear their ugly head)...

Both trump and Sanders have been thriving on whipping their crowds into a frenzy by making them believe they are fighting some system that is corrupt and evil. Guess what the end result of that is?

I haven't seen the clips of Trump supporters beating people and burning flags. Did I miss them?

Legal or illegal is of no concern to me. This is the United States, and if you came here from somewhere else it was for a reason. No matter what the reason, this country was their CHOICE, and as such I would ask them to RESPECT IT, or kindly GTFO.

MACS, we've seen trump supporters punch people handcuffed in custody.

As for the burning flag, yeah that's bad. I'm not defending them. But you have no idea if they are even immigrants.

Odd how the tone on this one seems to vilify the protesters.

Let’s remember that the first violence at Trump rallies was against protesters, by the supporters. And Trump encouraged the violence. And now he has the violence he encouraged – too bad it seems to have back fired on him.

And people were protesting him for being a racist and selling fascism as a way to “make America Great”. Things real Americans should protest against.

But in the end, let’s remember that this is free press for Donald, and he loves it. Who cares if people get hurt – the point is it keeps his name in the papers. And if all goes to plan, he can vilify the opposition.....

Yeah.
Odd that the "tone" of an article showing protesters attacking a woman physically makes them look like the bad guy.

You're funny.

Violence from both sides should be condemned.

At this point I have only heard the left condemn their own side for violence.

That wasn't a riot. That was one a-hole who elbowed someone else. It wasn't a crowd of people attacking others.

Somewhat true.
But consider the situations.

Regardless of who "started" the actual violence, virtually every instance was born from the leftist anti-Trump occupiers invading a group of Trump supporters.

Face it: emotions run high when a large crowd is cheering on the guy they support. When a vocal minority gets in your face spewing their opposing vitriol it's bound to set somebody off. All it takes is one, and then mob mentality takes over.

When I attend NFL games at opposing stadiums, I know that I can route for my team. But if I chastise the home team in a vulgar manner then I shouldn't expect to be treated with respect. If I get my azz handed to me then I would have no one to blame but myself.

Of course, responsibility is not a strong suit of the liberal agenda.

From what I've been seeing the past 8 years responsibility isn't really the strong suit of the conservative agenda either.

Glass houses and all that tail.
