Dan... Isn't that just subtracting a number into two different numbers? Or am I not getting the phrasing?

Like 6 = 2 and 4
And 6= 5 and 1

?

That'd how I took it, and how we did the homework.

But this is kindergarten... the phrasing is not kg level.

You're in Missouri, feel fortunate you found a gym. I suspect your rugby days are over. Though you will probably hear banjo music and pig references on a regular basis.

Kindergarten homework: "deconstruct an integer into two addends in two different ways"

WTF?!

Got a boy in kindergarten... That didn't look right... Ran it by a couple of family members who are involved in education... Neither of them found that acceptable... Best explanation came from an elementary school principal:

"Deconstruct is an academic vocabulary word that is taught in every grade. So the teacher taught that word then asked some other dumb stuff and then said something about integers."

Monday... start of a week? Monday will merely be night 8 of my 9 out of 10 nights working.

I've worked every day since last Sunday, except for Wednesday. My checks look damn good, but I'ze tired, boss... dog tired.

I floated the idea of having my son take the wife to the airport when she goes to the Philippines in late March and I had to backpedal reeeeaaaal fast. I'll have to take the time off. d'oh!

72 hours last week, a short 48 this week...

I'm beat. Fell asleep in one of my patient's rooms last night. Pulled up a chair to chart and the rhythmic pulsations and humming from the various life support devices had me nod off for a good 15 minutes. Then an alarm went off and I got back to work, refreshed and ready to go.

2 more nights and then I got a week off.

Trip to Florida in less than 4 weeks. Probably should be hitting up more overtime until then but I just can't. Maybe after I got a few days into that week off, but not tagging on anymore to this stretch.

Same. Brutal outside.

Had to stop by Menards for dog food and furnace filters on the way home. Wind lifted some of the filters out of my cart and I had to chase them down.

Can't wait to leave the cold for a bit.

Used to lose power if a squirrel farted. Bought two big generators and installed a transfer switch on the main so I could just take the house off the grid and run on generators. Always kept them filled and ready. Hard piped an exhaust from the engines out through the garage wall. Have over 1000 hours on them from 5 years of use.

Then about 4-5 years ago the power company built two new substations, one on either end of our street. Haven't lost power for any significant amount of time since then. One generator needs carb cleaned and the other needs a shaft seal replaced. I bought the parts, but haven't needed them in years.

Yeah, I took a picture and texted my buddy who's a high school stats/calc teacher. I had to confirm that I was even understanding the question correctly. He said that is absolutely not kindergarten math.

I feel bad for the kid. I could never do math the way they wanted it done. I could always get the right answer, but didn't follow the "correct" process to find the answer. I got poor grades in that subject simply because I couldn't follow the approved method. Wife doesn't math at all. In subjects that used heavy math like genetics and stats I did great because it didn't matter how you mathed, just as long as you could explain the process and got the right answer.

I agree with the vocabulary Dan.... Probably more than kindergarteners know... But I do think integer is a valuable term that they can learn at that age.

Deconstruct is probably unnecessary...

Integer = number. Why it's introduced at this level I do not understand. Though, I struggled with the concept of integers/whole numbers when I got to that point in school. To me, a number is a number. 0.66 is a number. 1 is a number. Same same in my head.

I mean... The concept of an integer is somewhat important to understand... (Not super important, but at least a little)....
I think every generation the teachers come up with a different"method" for doing the maths... They always do it because they're trying to make it easier for people (like you) who couldn't understand the methods but understood math... But I think they miss the point every time.

Not for a kindergartener! Learning to be a thorough wiper and hand washer is important at that age...

As a reference Victor, kindergarten is where kids learn to recognize and spell words like "the" and "see"...

I think you're right about every generation of teachers looking for a new way, but I discount the notion that they do it to help... The big thing in ca now is CORE math... BIFI... By idiots for idiots... And the teachers who came up with it weren't trying to help, they were trying to be famous...

Nonsense... The teachers may have wanted to be famous (seems.... Unlikely) but even then, one doesn't become famous from developing a math teaching method which you cannot defend as theoretically easier to learn or in some way making the students better than the generation before. There has to be a rationale which makes sense to enough people for it to become implemented, otherwise you're just a crazy dude in his basement.

There appears to be some debate as to whether common core is as ridiculous as people like to believe it is... I don't know the answer either way.

I do know I don't have a problem with kids learning integers and whatnot alongside learning to wash their hands.... We coddle children too much anyway. How are they going to work in my donut mines by 12 if they don't have the appropriate training????

Well, I got the results from the NeuroPsychologist. Even though I knew I would not be pleased with the results, it was still a big kick to the nuts.

Visual Memory is zilch- Way below debilitating range
Hearing Memory is zilch- Way below debilitating range
Comprehension is way below average because I can't remember what I read or hear long enough to repeat it back.
server depression in the debilitating range (yah think)
Spacial Disorder was in the debilitating range (So much so the psychologist noted that she was not to pleased with the wife going to work and me left to my own devices alone) The wife and I informed her that she works 3rd and typically I am sedated to sleep and I know not to leave the house alone or cook. That made it a little better I guess.

The one and only thing I did score above average on is coding, whatever the hell that is. I have no idea how that even applies to typical daily life or how to apply that to a skill.

I guess the real chitty part to all this is, I remember being able to do these things with ease. I use to measure the speed of electrical signals for both motor and sensory nerves to the brain, help diagnose issues with both central and peripheral nervous systems, Figure frequency and amplitude of brain waves for christ sake. Yep kick to the old wrinkled sack.

My new saying is, "My favorite color is clear and I play with rocks."

One good thing I guess, She did say that with her report I will not have any issues whatsoever getting disability whenever Social Security decides to hold the hearing date. Which we have been waiting for over a year now for that to happen. Maybe one day I guess after I am dead or living under a bridge it might happen.

Till then, I am going to go play with my rock and clear crayon.

And Yes, I am a whiny bitch today.Cursing

Ewok, keeping you in my prayers my brother.

As for social security, contact your local state representative they can help speed up the process, you will be entitled to receive all benefits from the time you applied .

Wishing you all the best my friend.

Truly wild how the brain works. Lucky for me I did not lose the ability to be able to write or say what I am currently thinking. Thing is in 3 to 5 minutes once this forum leaves my sight I will not remember what I have wrote or said. Also, I will not remember well enough to be able to verbally repeat it 5 minutes later unless I have it in front of me to read it back to you. Even at that I will not remember saying or writing it. If that makes sense. I do greatly appreciate the compliment. It is good to know that some can understand what I am trying to say.

Ron, Joel, I appreciate the prayers as well. Need all the help I can get right? For me it is not necessarily the actual issues. It is just the fact of learning how to accept that a spoon has more memory and more functionality than I do. Just an emotional thing I guess and it is only because I can remember having more capability. The testing for me was just a reminder and is fact based now that it's on paper in comparison to the average dingaling.

It would be kind of like going through your life really thinking you are very well endowed then, you find yourself standing next to F Tripod in the shower and realize all this time you actually have a micro penius. Kind of kick to the nuts lol

Chris, any chance of your brain forming new neural pathways to compensate for your diminished capacities? Would there be a methodology to relearn these functions?
