Indeed... towing season is upon us.

Outboard gonna get some deep service. Oil, filter, gear oil, water pump, fuel filters (I guess it has 2), spark plugs... etc. Not quite like the 30k service on your car. Think twice as much. d'oh!

I need to watch some more youtube videos... and maybe invest in some outboard maintenance classes or something.

Oil changes are a snap. Separating the lower drive from the motor seems pretty simple, and swapping out the impeller looks straight forward... putting it all back together looks tricky. Stuff has to line up... other stuff has to be aligned properly...

Hey, an outboard is not a steam turbine. Anxious

Good morning. Weather here will be 86F today. But , the snow storm up north will probably kill my plans to fly to Detroit for the weekend. :(

Speaking of oil changes purchased a life time oil change contract with local tires & services store for 2004 GMC Envoy on 5/24/2004 for changing oil, tire rotation & check air in tires for $380.00 , have been using it for 15 years now, I believe I have gotten my $$$$$$ worth from it. Went a few weeks ago and of course another new store manager, " had to see this agreement to believe it". He was shocked they haven't tried to stop contract. Store has changed ownership a few times since purchase as well. RollEyes

Welcome to Thursday folks, enjoy the day.

RAM JUST SAYS TO EVERY NEW STORE MANAGER:

" Hello Sir...I am RAM and I have a grandfather claused
Guaranteed lifetime agreement...and...I have this here BAT to back it up with..." (They all seem to come around to his way of thinking very quickly)

I ain't talking about the bait tank pump, or the wash down pump. I'm talking about the actual water pump inside the outboard. Gotta drop the lower unit. Looks like 5 bolts, one under the zinc, but to get it all lined back up looks tricky.

Changed the oil in my truck.

Then jacked the rear up to start on the brakes. Didn't have a big enough torx bit. Asked neighbor to borrow one. Got the calipers off but couldn't get em separated. The slider bolts are seized. Also, one parking brake shoe is cracked.

So, need to order more parts, and the simple job just got a lot bigger.

Before I do, gonna see if my buddy that does big truck and bus work if he can give the calipers a whack with his big impact gun, see if they can be broken loose without being broken. Might even just pay him to do the whole job.

HD pickups are nice, but all the components are so big it's hard to work on em from my driveway.

Decided to try at the front brakes.

Everything's seized up hard. Torch, 5lb hammer, PB Blaster, 3 foot breaker bar. I exploded my 21mm socket.

Guess I gotta pay to get it done. I'm too lazy to keep fighting with it. I could do it, just need more tools.

The lovely Midwestern rust belt.

IIRC, the outboard water pump also uses a jabsco impeller. I don't recall the alignment being all that difficult on the ones I serviced.

Oh, yeah! Sudwerk makes a very good marzen.

Hell, it may be cheaper to fly him south, pay for the beer, food and parts, and let him do the work.

I've worked a lot of OT since the wife has been in the Philippines. Needed a 2 day break, but it's back to it tomorrow.
