Looked up a bunch of restaurants where we're staying (St Pete's beach) looks like a tourist/party area so there's endless options. Would've been nicer if my parents came along, it was their idea in the first place, and they were gonna take the boy back to their condo in Orlando between the two days of camper show. Oh well. Got a bunch of ideas of other things to do, there's a state park or nature preserve not too far.

St Petersburg..?? One of my favorite places... there's a cool restaurant called Gators right under the bridge at St John's Pass.... it's cool to sit outside and watch the draw bridge at work... been there a few times but only for breakfas. And you gotta visit the Undertow bar for sure... Fort Desoto is worth visiting also... ThumpUp

That fort desoto park is on my list to visit. We're on the Key out in the bay, called st pete beach, and fort de soto park is straight south from us, so I plan to go there.

I'm thinking we might only do one day at the RV show even though the tickets are all 2 day passes. There's other stuff in the area to do outdoors. We'll see.

That park we're going to visit for sure though.

I'm staying at Alden Suites on Gulf Blvd on St Pete Beach

Not looking to do indoor stuff. Normally we do zoos and aquariums when we travel, but there's like a pandemic and stuff right now.

Gonna do the RV show, the park, and probably hang out on the beach. Not gonna be too warm tho. I just hope we get through without rain.

chit. I'd have to check the paperwork but it looks like your new half tonner on paper got my 3/4 beat in the numbers game minus payload. I've got 3300lbs payload. Pretty much the only number I care about so I know how much camper I can put on there. Not sure what the power rating is on the 6.4 in my truck, I assume around the same 400/400 but probably detuned a bit for HD use.

Even if it says I can only tow 11k, 13k will be fine. Hell, I towed 20k+ short distance with my old Chevy taking an excavator home and back, and 14-15k back and forth to Detroit from Chicago with two cars on a trailer. But I don't want to exceed payload, that's when things really get screwy. I overloaded a suburban many times back in the day and it was not safe at all. Those experiences are why I drive 3/4 ton trucks now. I don't want to worry about the load, just hitch it up and go. Linear load weight doesn't matter, I could tow 30k lbs as long as the tongue weight was 3k or less. Not gonna go anywhere quickly, but it'll move.

Our old farm trucks saw those loads daily and kept on going, and they were inline 6 cyl gas Fords with manual transmissions. I remember trying to get 14k lbs of soybeans out of a field with a 2wd pickup. I rocked that thing back and forth for 10 minutes before I got enough momentum to get it out. Once I hit pavement it was just foot to the floor and shift when it no longer pulled (no tach on the dash). Drove that from Lansing IL to Chicago to unload at the grain silos. Could get up to 50ish mph but not much more.

Not sure if you understand "payload" Danm... that's how much sh*t you can put in your truck bed and be cool. A camper is not "payload", my friend. It's towing capacity. Maybe I'm a lot drunk, here... but you have 3 numbers to be concerned with.

Towing capacity - The weight your truck can safely PULL.
Payload - the weight your truck can safely HAUL (in your truck bed).
Tongue weight - The weight a fully loaded trailer exerts on your hitch. Should not exceed 10-15% of your tow weight.

Tongue weight or pin weight if talking 5th wheel/gooseneck is part of payload. Payload is occupants + cargo + tongue weight. Quickly overloads half ton ratings, though my old farm trucks were all half tons with gooseneck hitches in the beds and I'd assume grossly overloaded. But they got the job done.

If I've got a car on a trailer, I prefer to have it as far frontwards as possible to reduce sway which increases tongue weight/payload. If running a lighter duty truck I've gotta straddle the trailer axles and find the right balance. 3/4 ton truck don't give a chit, just run it up to the front and won't bottom out. I've accidentally ended up too far back on the trailer with my old suburban and anything over 50mph I'd be swaying all over. Had to pull over and move up a bit more.

If you're running gooseneck/fifth wheel you're gonna see 20% pin weight which is in the middle of the bed, and part of payload cap.

My next camper I want to be a fifth wheel toy hauler. Not because I have a toy to haul, but because the modern floorplans of travel trailers don't have a cavity down the center where we can put our bikes and grils and other stuff, and a toy hauler gives us that plus a separate room for the boy. But they're heavy cause they're made to hold a side by side or other ATV motorcycles etc. So pretty much anything that I want is gonna be 10k lbs plus. Which puts 2k on the pin, in the bed, as payload.

Okay... I wasn't thinking of a 5th wheel. Strictly towing with a hitch ball. I ain't got a 5th wheel hitch... my buddy Glenn does... and he can pull 24,000 lbs with his Ford F250 Powerstroke... which has that hitch.

6.7L turbodiesel, though... whole nuther fkn ball game... and another 25k in price.

Yeah, I wish I could go diesel. I'm stuck in the sub 12klb trailer segment. I got a buddy Cory who runs a 16k lb tri axle toy hauler all over the country with his F450 but that's a 100k trailer on a 100k truck.

There's plenty options under 12k lbs, I'd prefer to get closer to 8k since I'm running gas, but the toy haulers are heavy. I don't tow far for camping, but for Gridlife I do...

Camper show in Tampa this weekend so I can figure out what I want to look for. Maybe. Been doing camper shows for years saying the same damn thing, I'll find what I want...

If you think you're going to reliably tow anything with a 4cyl and an electirc boost... you're a dumbass.

Not lookin to tow anything substantial. Not really what I’m looking for. Liking the 50mpg* and ability to go all gas, all electric or combined. Most my trips now days are short. All electric will work for me.

I think all Jeep’s w-rangers have the same towing capacity at least the 4, 6 and 4xe. Not sure about the 392. I think the design of the wrangler is problematic for heavy towing anyway.

Oh the starfish mark means 50mpg in a plug in is calculated differently or some such nonsense.

I’ll tow a little trailer with no issue at all. Big boat etc, nah.
