Does this mean I can’t wish Arthur Ashe a happy birthday?

I’ll say this much about Ashe, he played and lived with more grace than any other athlete…ever.

And I’ll say this about the rackets that Ashe endorsed - all 3 models were stiff as boards and had such small sweet spots that I could never play with them. I’m amazed that he was able to win major titles with them…but then again, he was a world class athlete and probably could have played with a wooden board and still played well.

Edit: read up on Ashe and didn’t realize / forgot that he was also an Army vet. Discharged as a 2nd Lt.

Hahahahahaha!

No.

But, John was a much different person off-court. Just before the 1994 USA vs. Argentina Davis Cup tie held in Hawaii in 1994, I literally ran into John a couple days prior to the start of the event. I was in Kona for business and at the end of the day, had picked up my tickets and was browsing in the pro shop. John stepped in from the outside courts and just before he hit the door, I nervously asked him for his autograph. I was unprepared and fumbled for something to write on. He just waited patiently. I finally pulled out one of my business cards. He asked for my name and signed the back of it with "To Conan, Best wishes. John McEnroe. I shook his hand and we both went our merry ways.

Good morning one and all,

We all went to The Crystal Bay Casino last night. A great time was had by all, gambling, dinner, and a show. Today we are all going to the Viking castle, I forget it's name. We're also going kayaking.

Good morning. Heading to the lap pool again this morning, then going "reverse shopping" with my wife. Other than those two activities I am laying about and watching both soccer and basketball on tv.

Made it home from the track, no issues from the truck except horrible mileage in heavy traffic all the way up there.

It would be so much easier if he just took care of business so the next 500 gets named after him without argument.

When people talk about unconscious bias and racism in this country, this is what they're talking about... you're angry that it's being pointed out that the first Black child in 96 years won the spelling bee? You think that's divisive?

Did you know that less than one lifetime ago black people weren't allowed to go to school with white people? That happened... in this country... less than one lifetime ago...

The repercussions of those decades upon decades of black people being legally and socially persecuted have not suddenly disappeared, no matter how badly you want them to be gone...

Ok, so going forward, we should line up to celebrate every first time achievement of a non white person. Got it.

How about you starting a thread for that specific reason?

So it took 96 years to win a Spelling Bee, and it is such a big deal, that it deserves 10% of a newscast?

I want Black people gone? I want them assimilated into our society as equals. Like everybody else.

Thank you again, faux lazy Jesus for another judgment on who I am and what I am about. You want to really make this personal? You are on the brink.

Seriously. Start a thread to celebrate the accomplishments.

Because Opieum keeps misrepresenting my character and is trying (and he’s about to succeed) in making it personal.

Laika, a husky spitz mix, was the first living creature in space on Sputnik 2. Unfortunately, the Russians hadn't sorted out proper heat shielding nor capsule retrieval and it's theorized the pupper expired after a couple of orbits

Didn't wait for the appropriately named thread d'oh!

meh that's your view and I'm not arguing with ya but even if true it's not a big deal. You can do the same towards me if it makes ya happy. I really think it's a whole bunch of nothing, but then again it's not about me so maybe that's why.

COme on Danm we are rooting for you.

I have a confession to make

I don't really like when folks I like and respect argue with each other. Well yes I do, but not when it starts to feel real. Especially when it shouldn't.

It's ok to argue about MACS being really really ugly, and Drafter being really really ghey.... but that is because both of those are so true.... undeniably true.... which makes it fun to argue..... but other stuff not so much
