Happy Birthday to OJ Simpson

The first black man and NFL legend in history to virtually cut off the heads of two white people,
lead the police on a slow speed chase headed to Mexico with a hoard of cash,
a disguise and fraudulent identification, and be found not guilty in court of law.

Another great day for America!
Let’s join hands, turn our backs on the flag, and sing the Iranian national anthem!!!

Somewhere, buried deep in my Box of Memories, I have OJ’s autograph when he was here for the ‘68 Hula Bowl. I’ve considered burning it a couple of times. Sick

I don't know anyone outside of this forum who considers the color of one's skin to be a political hot button topic... I'm sure they exist... I'm just proud not to know them...

Ya but once you actually find a collector who is interested you have to meet him in a hotel room... and then once you get there you gotta go through the awkward process of realizing you're being robbed by oj Simpson... juice ain't worth the squeeze...

Haha! I see what you did there! Laugh

I’ll probably wait until he kicks the bucket before revisiting this.

I recently spoke to someone who claimed flying the US flag was a declaration of conservatism. Oh, and also a lift kit on a truck or Jeep. I now identify as whatever the political version of an atheist is

While my dad and I were fishing in AK last year he told me how upset he was about BLM etc etc. he decided he wasn’t going to watch the NBA or NFL as a result.

I told him that was ridicules. He’s 80 and that’s what he lives for at this point. He watches sports morning noon and night. Told him why would you give up your passion and something you love because you don’t like a marking on a court or you’ve let petty politics creep in to your life in a way they only can if you let them. Without the screaming heads telling you it’s bad you’d likely not give a ****. Pay attention to who and what you listen too that drives these thoughts. What would happen if you shut them out. Would you be so constantly outraged or pissed off? Nope.

Oddly he listened to me. He’s a huge Suns fan and as we were watching the game together last night he randomly turned to me and said I’m sure glad I didn’t stop watching (he’s missed very few games).

Life is short and fun. How some folks get so jacked up over things that have so little impact in them is beyond me.

It’s only political if you name it such. Reread the first part of this thread. It really wasn’t political. The reactions both ways became so.

I had pizza for lunch.

Part of it for me is it is tearing the country apart. I dedicate five minutes total each day for local and national news.
During that five minutes this morning. One of the stories was the first African American ever to win the Scrpps? Spelling Bee.

Why is that relevant? If anything, it’s insulting.
What are they trying to get at?
See, black people can spell too?…….
Are we to celebrate in the streets?
Are we supposed to hold a parade?

Why wasn’t Vanilla Ice celebrated for being the first european American for becoming the first rapper to hit the top 40?

Where’s the story about the first Pacific Islander to dunk a basketball in Tennessee?

People are people. It’s about equality. Not one group over another.

Seems the country spent a couple hundred years making decisions based on skin color. How’d that work out?

It’s going to end badly for this country. Conservatives who were generally in the middle of their party’s spectrum are being radicalized.

If you thought the right wingers were were crazed before. Wait until they get the presidency and congress back. And if Trumps wins- look out.

I had a steak and cheese burrito on the way home. The chef was unknown. Perhaps I should have asked more questions.

Can I get a breakdown of there race, gender, sexual preference, political ideology, citizen non citizen, eye color, and whether of not they have an appendix please?

If it checks the in-Vogue boxes we have a news story.

Meh. Good enough. Wasn’t really directing that at you or anyone in particular.

It just seems to get under folks skin too much. Giving away power. Taking away happiness unnecessarily.

Personally I found it interesting the last remaining man on an all black unit that attacked Omaha Beach passed today given the history and the challenges faced at the time as well as today. But I don’t care if anyone else does.

And I’m not trying to get in to anything in the 500. I just think some things that are not politics get treated as such due to the charged political environment.

This just isn't fun.

It's 9:20pm, I am sitting on the back patio, and it's 105 degrees... Not even a hot breeze. Just a distant thunderstorm I can see on the horizon and my sweaty butt sitting here smoking a cigar.

Beastie Boys hit #7 on Billboard hot 100 in '87 with Fight for Your Right (released '86). Vanilla Ice credit denied

Though I admit that's not the point of your post

I didn’t take it as you coming at me or anyone. It was simply a good on-ramp to do a deeper share with an example, for those who truly don’t understand the frustration felt for those of us who see the ripping apart of the country through culture wars.

Let’s split everybody into two sides (check)
Let’s promote division and have our thoughts echo chambered back to us through MSNBC or Fox. (check).
Let’s energize and radicalize the members of each side so we have villains to fight. (Check).

Next up? Probably another power grab from the fed with some slickly worded laws targeting the rising anger on the right, while the left loses battle after battle in the Supreme Court.

That should get us to our destination. Sectarian violence.

We are the strongest country on the planet. Only we can beat us. Or weaken us to the point of collapse, and then another country can finish us off.

Our time to knock this **** off is running out.

While a rap song, I don't know that Blondie is generally thought of as a "rapper." I'm reclaiming credit. Though I suppose could be argued B-Boys is a rap group vs solo artist rapper. Not sure where that leaves it all. Too early. Brain hurt

Easiest way to win a culture war is flip everyone the bird and don't acknowledge that there is a culture war... because there's not.

See, now you're getting it.

Valid point. Although I prefer the Beastie's music over Blondie's, I'll still stick with my nomination for this topic.

I'd vote twice to deny Vanilla Ice from contention especially if we add "artist" as a qualifier.

What's up?
Heading out to the lap pool for a bit. Wife and son are walking a trail at the Wekiva State Forrest, just a couple miles from here. Then off to the mall for reverse shopping and then on to the grocery (Publix).

Got my buddy Jeff's beach condo, 48 miles door-to-door, until November 1, when he comes home for the fall here in Central Florida. In the meantime, I have the only key to his condo. 1,700 sq, ft. facing the ocean.

Trying to talk wife into five days off work or to work a bit from the condo on her lap top, so we can take something like nine nights at the beach!

When people talk about unconscious bias and racism in this country, this is what they're talking about... you're angry that it's being pointed out that the first Black child in 96 years won the spelling bee? You think that's divisive?

Did you know that less than one lifetime ago black people weren't allowed to go to school with white people? That happened... in this country... less than one lifetime ago...

The repercussions of those decades upon decades of black people being legally and socially persecuted have not suddenly disappeared, no matter how badly you want them to be gone...
