Fun day ahead. Have gotten an inch of snow to go toward the estimated total of 6-10 inches before the day ends.
Accompanying that are sustained winds currently at 14 mph will get up to sustained at 25 mph with gusts to 40.

I share this not as a moan, as it could always be colder, wetter, and or windier. More so to help you all appreciate whatever atmospheric misery you have today.

Once today is over, I’ll be burying myself in warm clothing and hiding under blankets for a few days.

Well, I guess so, but seeing as how I have the summer, I should get me some good winter first. Think

Got lucky yesterday.

Picked up a load in Quartzsite, AZ this past Friday. The first stop was in Edmond, OK. It wasn't supposed to deliver until today, but they were able to unload me yesterday. The next stop is in Lafayette, LA, about 55 west of my house, but it doesn't unload until tomorrow, then it finals in Plant City, Florida on Thursday afternoon.

So as soon as they unloaded me yesterday, I pulled out and headed south. During the entire drive home there was a band of strong thunderstorms to the east and the west, but I was able to stay between them all the way home.

Made it to the Walmart near my house about 01:00 this AM. Had to hike for 12 minutes home since there weren't any Uber's running. Thankfully, it had stopped raining. But I had to walk through a few 3 inch or so deep pools of water. Got the bottom of my pants wet, but my ropers kept my feet dry.

Since I don't have to unload until tomorrow AM, I'll get to spend all day with my family, then leave out in the morning. As an added bonus, I'll be here for just a tad bit over 34 hours, so I'll get a restart on my 70-hour DOT clock at home. That's another bonus since I would have been down to my last 2 hours when I unloaded in Florida. Now I can get right back on the road when I'm empty instead of sitting around waiting for a restart.

Kinda cold last few days so today I'm making my world famous beef stew in the crock pot. What you never heard of it? My mom's recipe except we rarely had any beef as a kid until we raised a few cows ourselves.

Just had a guy out to get a third quote on painting the outside of the house. It's been about 10 years since the last paint job and it still looks decent but the wife wants a new color scheme. Prices for paint and labor have just about doubled in that time according to the quotes we are seeing.

Awesome... Mrs. and I'd Christmas arrived yesterday... Grantestone cookware 27 pcs. (they added a few more for a holiday gift sale) so now I washed them all up and they sit on the dining room table awaiting the wife's move to empty the cabinets on what pots, pans and bakeware she wants to part with, so I can box it up and then assist in arranging the new **** so I know where it is when I'm cooking supper and chit.. Tax season is my time in the Kitchen while she's running numbers all day long.. Herfing Herfing

I really need to do that. Mine are going on 5 years old. Haven't found an optometrist I like since the one I was seeing since kindergarten died in 2020. I've seen 3 since then, I've gotten one pair glasses and three contacts but everyone I see insists my eyes measure out a different prescription than what I've been wearing since 2006. But I can't see chit with the "right" one which was an issue I had for years until my old doc said "lets try this" and it worked. So I'm still wearing the "wrong" lenses until I can find someone to give me the ones that work for me. Walmart vision center guy said "some double vision is normal with your eyes" No the fvck it isn't because I've not had to deal with that since 06. Another doc in a box I asked if I could just get the same prescription as I had and she said no, she would only write for what I measured but "it'll work if you give it time" I tried. Didn't work.

HR called to schedule an interview Thursday.

She seemed very concerned that I needed to understand it was for a dayshift position and would be 4-6 days a week plus 24/7 call one week a month. I said I'm well aware of the posted schedule when I applied.

She asked if I've spoken to the manager of cath lab, I told her I've known Scott for 15 years and it's been an ongoing conversation that whole time. She asked if I told him I applied. I said I have not but I can text him when we get off the phone.

She asked if my current manager was aware, I said my current manager is at disneyworld and I'm not going to call her on vacation. I sent an email and I got an out of office reply. She said that it is my responsibility to make sure my manager is aware of the transfer request before the interview. I'm still not going to bother her on vacation. She's well aware I've been looking to get off nights and away from bedside.

She asked if I was familiar with what they do in the cardiac cath lab. I was starting to lose my patience already. I said I don't want to be short with you, but I've worked in the cardiac ICU for 15 years. I work hand in hand with the cardiac cath lab, structural heart lab, and cardiac surgical teams. I know the workflow, I know every single person that works in that department. I've filled in hundreds of times in the lab during codes and stuff. I'm not coming in blind.

I've had my eyes checked 3 times in the past 5 years from from three optometrists. Why 3 times in 5 years you ask?

The human variable. I lost one pair so got another. Then over time I sat on that pair and they couldn't be repaired.

So I went to one of the local LASIK center places since they took my insurance (had to do a follow up with them, they said there was possible early signs of glaucoma but nothing came of it - apparently one of my optical nerves is slightly larger that the other), Walmart vision center, and one from a local mom and pop optometrist that's been around for awhile. The prescriptions were all nearly the same over the past 5 yrs.

My insurance, at the time, would only 100% cover bifocals and a certain selection of frames. I wanted progressives and a larger selection of frames but the copay was stupid on what they would cover. So I took that "free" pair of bifocals and frames but after a few weeks, I didn't like bifocals. I got used to progressives that I had in the past and the bifocals were annoying. I retired the bifocals as a set of backups.

I took the latest prescription and ordered lenses and frames online and paid out of pocket for them. I think I paid like $250-$300. Plastic scratch resistant progressives lenses and blue light filter. Most sites will allow you to take a picture of your face from your web cam then overlay the frames so you see what they will look like. They were much less expensive than what the eye shop places wanted.

If you look at the inside of the bow of your glasses, there's a set of numbers. These are the numbers that define frame dimensions: the lens width, bridge width, and temple length for the frame.

https://www.wikihow.com/Read-Eyeglasses-Size

With these numbers and my prescription numbers, I was able to get mail order glasses that I like for a nice price. With that said, my prescription is rather simple. If someone has more difficult eyes or different prescription for each eye, this may not work for them.

It's not the choice or cost I care about. My dead optometrist was extremely expensive, even with insurance. The guy who took over doesn't take insurance.

It's getting the prescription that works for me that's the hard part. Astigmatism, horribly nearsighted, double vision beyond about 100ft when wearing glasses or contacts with the measured prescription. He got me wearing different strengths in each eye and while I can't read through the lenses, I can drive without double vision. So I pick short frame height so I can read over/under the glasses.

Probably wouldn't be a terrible idea to see an eye surgeon/lasik dude. My insurance does have s $5k lifetime allowance for vision correction surgery. But... my career is mostly dealing with complications of surgeries so I'm extremely wary of an elective procedure that I can 100% go without.

average a pair of glasses every 2 years...vision has been pretty stable for about 10 years...I can see well enough with those glasses, except for all the scratches on the lenses...

I prefer lighter, smaller wire metal frames with the lighter, thin high index lenses...progressives

I have a new vision plan insurance from the company I work for. I think it's like $1.75 a week for the vision insurance. I haven't used it but I probably should sine I'm paying for it. Even if I get another eye check up and a pair of for backup glasses, I should probably take advantage of it since I'm paying for it.

I'm with delta. I like lighter progressive lenses. I'm not a fan of wire metal frames though. I would probably break them. The ones I have are durable plastic frames (as long as I don't with on them).

They also have this neon green tips on the end of the bow (the part that goes behind your ears) which puzzled me. Then one night I woke up from bed to take a pee, the glasses where on the nightstand next to the bed and the little neon green tips glowed in the dark.

Aha, that's what the neon green tips are for. They glow in the dark so you can find them. Simple things for a simpleton like me.

Morning folks. Up too damn early cuz I couldn't sleep. Going to be 34/54 and sunny.

After reading all this about vision I guess I'm lucky. Have only had one really good eye all my life (deadeyedick) but have never needed anything but readers from the drug store for the last 30+ years. My doc talked me into LASIC on both eyes about 5 years ago but I can't say it changed anything in my vision after the procedures.

When we got RK, the first iteration using a diamond knife to make radial cuts, the Doc told us the need to use reading glasses. part of normal aging, would come about sooner because of the RK surgery.

Oh, and Good Morning to All!

Yesterday’s snow glove is gone. Big, wet, sloppy flakes blown around in 30-40 mph winds, all cleaned up. Just in time for another 1-3 inches tonight.

It’s winter. We got a pass in December, although Old Man Winter is starting to raise his game.

Three egg omelette (spinach, garlic & cheddar cheese) and coffee complete. Dogwalk later.

A week or so ago my sister was asking me how I make kimchi. Sent her some recipes and video links. It planted the seed in my brain and I decided to make some today.

I decided to go to the Asian store to get my things. It's a Filipino store but a girl at work said they probably have all the stuff. Typical small ethnic store. Asked the lady for help finding the things, she did and when she rang me up the total was $17. Gave her a $20 said keep the change and thanks for the help.

Last two times I made it I got the stuff online, local grocer, and whole foods. Cost me $35-40 to make 4 jars both times. $17 at the Asian store got me 6 jars of kimchi.

Now the house smells like fish sauce.

There's this thing in MA run buy the MA Treasurer's office. They hold any unclaimed property.

"Unclaimed property consists of unclaimed financial assets such as checking and savings accounts, unpaid wages, securities, uncashed dividends, life insurance policies, uncashed checks, safe deposit boxes, etc that are without activity for a certain period of time. It does not include real estate or vehicles. Typically assets become unclaimed when the owner cannot be contacted for a three-year period by the holder of the asset, or for fifteen years in the case of traveler's checks."

Saw a commercial on it. I don't think anyone owes me money but I thought, why not give it a look? Turns out a bank that I use to use has $55.71 (plus any appropriate interest) sitting there in my name and they turned it over to the Unclaimed property division of the MA Treasure's office. When I closed the account years ago to move to another bank I probably left a little money behind to cover uncleared checks or something.

Obviously not much money but I'd rather have the $55 in my pocket than the pocket of a bank that I no longer use or the pocket of the Treasurer's slush fund.

With $55 I could probably buy a Gurkha or two at retail prices. WHOOP, WHOOP!

For the search, I just typed in my last name and scrolled though the list. Seems there are two pages of folks that share my last name in MA that have reimbursement funds sitting in limbo. Who would of guessed that my last name was that popular here in MA (shrug).

My ex-wife has two available claims from Verizon Wireless in her name ( with my last name when we where married). Sent her an email to check it out and claim the $. Prolly an over payment of a couple cell phone accounts that she held or $ she didn't get when when she closed the accounts. She was a sly one who opened various accounts without me knowing until we divorced.

Odds are zero that I get a finders fee or even a thank you from her. Don't need it, expect it nor want it. No skin off of my nose but I thought that it would be the appropriate thing to do to give her a heads up to claim it.

Anyway, on a positive note, we didn't get any snow here today. Some drizzle rain. Weather folks say more rain on Saturday. I'm fine with that. You don't have to shovel rain.

Snug up those seat belts. We will be going for a ride in like 8 billion years from now. You can never be too cautious and stuff.

I should adjust my diet and safety stuff so I can last for another 8 billion years. I should eat more kale and wear a helmet when I ride my bike. I should buy some more smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors while I'm at it.

Sorry I suck at English on paper or text and have a habit of not proof reading.
