80946 Edgar Julian Cuba Nada. Got in a trade where I got shafted but im gonna smoke all the no name bundle cigars he sent me for my Darklord collection. I can't find anything about this cigar except that it's sold at the small batch place $37/5.

So, you are saying you should have traded those Darklords to *ahem* some known brother on this board instead?

An Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. It seems much different to me than the other more nutty, creamy, mellow Habanos I’ve experienced lately. It was full bodied but the flavor was mostly “good tobacco” w/o any particular taste standing out save pepper. I can agree w/the review on CB with the one major caveat…these things in very small amounts. I can’t see buying more of these but I’m happy with my purchase.
CB review:
“ This combination promotes a powerful, heady profile that’s layered with complex nuances of nuts, pepper, oak, cream, and caramel. Elegant, extremely well-balanced, and brimming with flavor,…)

Yup. Brick wall

I put them up there with pictures, but thought it would take a while. I didn't go there with that intent, I logged in and saw a PM asking if I still had any but it was old so I replied but also threw up the thread with a @ tag. Came here and figured I'd do the same. As I was typing out a post in the trades section here, I got a PM alert there and it was done. It wasn't up 2 minutes.

I can't/won't bash him too hard, msrp on the cigars is what I paid for the beers. But he did not factor the part where they're rare and irreplaceable and worth about $500 on secondary market or the fact that I actually paid $300, thats not msrp bullchit im valuing it at. One of the bottles alone regularly trades for $250-350. I had a cash offer of $450 but hoped I'd get a solid mix of cigars. If I got the cash I'd buy my usual cigars.

80984 Avo XO Intermezzo rob. One of the top shelf cigars I got in the Darklord trade.

Milder but with a bit of a bite on retro. Great sweet honey graham cracker flavor. Creamy texture.

I like it a lot. Wouldn't mind keeping some around and exploring more. But I've said the same thing about pretty much every Davidoff friend I've tried. AVO, Zino, Griffins. They're all solid good cigars. Taste great, burn perfectly, even smells nice. Tend to lack the "wow" factor but excel at just being extra good. If Oliva is a Toyota, Davidoff and friends can be a Lexus.

80990 Girls Guns Gold lancero got in darklord trade.

It's rolled well and not a plugged lancero. Dry woody flavor, no real sweet cream I was expecting to get real concentrated CT flavors from a lance but it's more habano tasting to me, maybe its a habano wrapper. I haven't looked this one up yet. A bit minerally and grainy like when you bite into a piece of undercooked rice. Little light leather. Bit of light pepper on retrohale but it stays in my sinuses. It's honestly alike a cuban profile the more I think of it. If that was their aim, I'd say it's pretty darn good.

So it's a Caldwell "crafted and curated" dunno how that's different from lost n found. Well I looked up the cigar, and it's not.
halfwheel.com wrote:

Little past Halfway through it's a decent cigar. I wouldn't buy it but I'm gonna finish it. More earthy/mineral, the sinus-searing pepper comes and goes. Maybe there's one small broken strip of ligero in there that's just not always part of the draw. I dunno. I like it. I'd smoke another but I wouldn't buy another. Overall it was an interesting cigar.

I'll add more if there is more in the 2nd half but it's pretty dry for a CT, it's mineral flavors are borderline metallic but I've had others I'd say are more metallic than mineral. This is kinda like when I used to lick road salt as a kid. The pepper when it's there is like horseradish more than peppercorns. I put it down at 90 minutes and still had at least 30 minutes to go. I'll stick with my smoke it if I got it but I'm not gonna pay for it assessment.

Hey Palama, I’ve noticed that you old timers tip your hat to the person you got a particular cigar from. How do you keep track of that with so many cigars? Do you tie them in a bundle and attach a note? Segregate in a ziplock within your humidor? Do you keep a written inventory? I appreciate any tips you can offer and anyone else reading this please feel free to give a n00b your advice. Thanks to everyone.

I keep mine in an unclosed ziploc with the person's name written in sharpie on the outside. Where I get in trouble is when I take a cigar out to smoke, change my mind and decide to save it, but don't put it back in the bag. Sometimes I'll just put it in the desktop thinking I will definitely remember who gave it to me, but I have a mind like a sieve.

I usually rely on memory but it often fails me.

I have blank bands I bought years ago I use to handwrite info on some especially if no cello.

You can also take a post it note, slice perpendicular to the adhesive, write your info on there and wrap it around the cigar.

I used a fine tip marker to write directly on thr cello for a while.

Lately I've taken to opening a spreadsheet, inserting the name and date on every other line in a single column. Print it out and cut em up. The strips fit nicely under a piece of scotch tape and then I stick that on the cello. Not my idea, I started after getting some from Conan dated in a similar fashion. I started dating all my cigars this way.

I keep a rather detailed / OCD Excel spreadsheet with every cigar purchased, traded, given, etc., as well as when I smoked them. I also note who, where or how I acquired them. Iffin’ you’re not afflicted with this crazy abnormality, you’d consider it crazy but iffin’ you got it bad like me, you hafta do it otherwise you can’t sleep at night. Laugh

And, as Dan alluded to, I keep track of when I received each cigar. On cello’d cigars I write it on a piece of paper and tape it to the cellophane. On unbanded cigars I cut the paper longer and wrap it around kinda like a band.

I smoked a fiver of the robustos and liked it. So I bought a tenner of the toros. The first out of ten did not taste at all like the fiver. It was extremely earthy and had a dank rotted leaves flavor that was fairly strong. I don’t eat at McDonald’s these days but they are terrific at have consistent quality. They meet expectations every time. That’s the consistency I want in a cigar. I’ve found that Aging Room Quattro and LGC Serie R has that kind of consistency. Now I cast a jaundiced eye on La Harencia. Hoping the next 9 will be what I expected.

Bitter and unpleasant. Like McDonald's hamburgers. Probably due to the fact it's a Mexican San Andres wrapper which im not a huge fan of.

Midnight, not judging at all here, but I am not so sure the wrapper is the culprit of bad taste on a $2 bundle cigar... It may just be a chitty cigar. I can think of many a MSA wrapper cigar that is not bitter or unpleasant.

Just saying...

In my opinion, after having smoked several each year for maybe 20 years or so, Padron sets the standard for consistency...meaning whether you like that flavor profile or not, it will always be the same.
And that seems to apply to every line they offer.
Prolly due to their having control of the operation from seed to distribution.

Frank, thanks for chipping in on this. I have a few Padron’s resting that I just quite recently purchased so I won’t get around to them for at least 6 weeks because I have others in line. I will make a mental note about Padron. I’m here to talk about cigars and learn from you guys.

You are correct, I didn't buy or research the cigar. Now I see they can be bought for $1.50 so they could just be bad budget cigars, maybe just not for me.

81017 Room 101 ichiban from Jakethesnake. Splotchy toothy wrapper made me think MSA and went in expecting a dirty pepper bomb. Was surprisingly mild and sweet. Google says the ichiban is CT, hab, or mad. Must be the maduro. Now that I corrected my expectations it's decent. Loose flakey ash, 2 touchups before halfway none after. A decent yard gar. Smells nice. Nothing surprising (other than tasting like a sweet maduro when I was expecting a spicy MSA) it's decent. No off-putting flavors. For a bundle smoke, it's solid.

^ that’s the habano. Probably my favorite bundle smoke. Good for the coin. Those are antiques. Don’t know how old but they’re old. Glad you liked it considering I didn’t know you tended to avoid habano.
The ichiban maduro has a different color band. And I thought it kinda sucked

I useta write the name of the giftor and the date received on the cello, or in the absence of cello, on the band of a gifted smoke. Luckily I can write small and legibly enough to pull this off...In my laziness after a few years of retirement, and a lull in trading cigars, I fell out of that practice.

This is a reminder that we are all blessed to be here in this brotherhood, and acknowledging the generosity of anyone here who cares enough to send someone else a cigar is a small but appreciated gesture, so I'll start doing that again...

Delta, thanks. I can’t write legibly in any size or font. I’ve got my gifted stogies separated and I have them in a note on my iPad. I think I might try to use a sharpie and write on the cellos. By the way, I like those Eagle refillable jet lighters that you mentioned. Got a 4 pack on the big “A” shopping site. They are inexpensive and hold plenty of gas. Thanks for that recommendation.

Tastes a lot like the La Perla Habana Black and Tan. Flavors of coffee with cream, nutty, small hits of anise here and there. Overall constructed well and had an even burn. Smooth and mellow, the strength on the milder side.

(We repeated 81019 so I jumped to 81021)
