81213 Herrera Esteli Norteño Torpedo with thanks to jakethesnake. I found boxes of these in corona for $100 so I was digging around trying to find one to decide if I want another box. I had 2 empty lonsdale boxes so I figured I do like em but after a few dud box buys I didn't wanna risk the Benjamin.

Tapered heads are some of my least favorite vitolas. Mostly cause it seems like a waste of time to roll it then I go and cut it off. A cap on straight shoulders seems much more efficient. I'm a function over form guy. I know angled cut n stuff concentrating flavors whatever. I cut it square at the shoulder. I've had issues with tight draws and tar buildup more in torps than others.

Anyway. The pepper was shy at first. I remember these being spicy lil meatballs but it started off rather bland. Thankfully that didn't last and by the first ash drop I got a wallop of a pepper hit and it all fell into place. Leathery sweet creamy texture, nice dark spices up front, peppery retro. Draw is fairly firm but slow steady sips are keeping it burning sharp and not fatiguing my cheeks. Once halfway the box press released and it opened up, got even better. Yes I do remember these and I remember why I had 2 empty boxes of them. I'll grab that sale box.

Thanks JTS

No sir. Not low. I typically will not smoke fresh outta the mailbox but. Most of the fellas store their personal smokes pretty carefully. So I’ll smoke on those any time. Hell I’ve left cigars in my glovebox for a couple few weeks in a ziplock without a boveda. They usually smoke fine. A lot of times the problem with fresh from a website is they store the cigars waaay higher than most of us would. Like 70 percent or more. Also these only came from a few states away from me so I figured they’d be ok. I also never had one of these and it’s still sitting out 😂

Not a fan of the vitola, but love the cigar. Little bit of age on it, nice, oily wrapper. Smoke production is heavy as always with an LFD DL.

81219 - EPC La Historia el senador Starts really mild and slightly sweet and stays very much that way 'til just about the halfway. Surprisingly mild from what it seems is the consensus in plenty of descriptions. About the halfway point I get the first hint of pepper, but it comes and goes. As the half point burns into the finish of the second third the intensity builds with a fairly robust flavor of fresh tobacco. Flavor and strength remains very medium until the final third where the pepper and tobacco flavors mingle with an introduction of oak and still an underlying subtle sweetness. No coffee or cocoa or chocolate. Burn remains cool down to the nub with a perfect char line for the entire cigar. Took a lot of time with the last third, but never found it particularly complex. Probably two distinct transitions in flavor, half point and then the last third. Strength picked up a bit in the last third. A bit of a nic kick at the end but certainly not a powerhouse. Good cigar but less interesting than I thought it would be.

Edit: With 4 more months of nap time, this became a much better smoke than the one I tried back in October.

My third. These seem to start out quite nice and by the end of the first third they’re just meh. The smoke holds its body but all the flavors disappear. I’ll smoke the rest but I won’t buy them again.

81226 - Tatuaje Anarchy 2010

This box was from the first release of the Anarchy and it has been two years since I tried one. Started off even stronger than I remember and with spicy hit but seemed to settle into medium+ after that. Large volume of smoke with a tangy licorice note along with slight dark chocolate and maybe cedar from the wood box. These have held up well.

81238 601 green label Oscuro with thanks to jakethesnake.

Slightly yellowed cello but I suspect that's more a function of the dark oily wrapper than an aging process but well see. It's got a very attractive wrapper leaf and a lovely aroma prelight.

First light just makes me think of the smell of a new leather jacket. Some pepper in my sinuses, slightly dry but not enough to bother me. Yet.

After the first ash drop its more of the same, leather, wood, maybe dark fruitiness, little less astringency, nice texture, searing pepper on retro made me sneeze and eyes water. Sharp burn line, no alarms and no surprises please.

Band came off nicely before the heat got to it and it too had a yellow hue. Maybe this does have a little age on it. The flavors are backing up the packaging clues.

Halfway, this is a pleasant cigar. Nothing spectacular, nothing negative. I wouldn't be opposed to throwing a fiver in with a future order.

Thanks JTS! I wasn't gonna smoke tonight since it's my first night on call and with a 30min response time there's a chance I gotta show up reeking of tobacco smoke to the cardiac cath lab and that's kinda like the least tobacco friendly place. But I'm glad this one rose to the top of the pile as I swept my hand through to pick one out.

^^ excellent review Danm

81239: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 BP Toro
I’ve had a few of these and the first couple inches have a nice toasted malt, oaky, cocoa, earthy flavor and a sweet finish. Halfway through it seems to conk out and the last third I have to keep tugging on it to keep it burning enough to get smoke, and then it burns hot and leaves unpleasant tannins as aftertaste. Not on my list of cigars to re-purchase.

Glad the 601 treated you ok danm. It’s from January 21. I don’t date my cigars but those I did for some odd reason. I kinda wish I would put dates on cigars. Maybe one day.

81242 Class 34 No9.

From 2022. Jake, I use a sharpie to write month/year on the cello. That way, if I give it to someone else, they know how old it is and if I keep it, I know when it's sat for a month or two so I can smoke it. Super easy to just write on the cello. If I buy a box, I write it on the bottom of the box.

Hoping third time's the charm. The first one I had was spicy throughout the smoke. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I'mma not into that as before. A few months later I tried another and the spice had toned down a bit. Hoping this one, at almost a year of rest, will have mellowed even more and be at that (near) perfect point.

Edit: Enjoyed it very much. The added rest toned down the spice / pepper. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves further.

These were reputed to be the same blend as the original Verocu East and West but with a different wrapper leaf when they were released. Still a fairly strong cigar but they have lost some of the spice.

Just read that this blend is changing. Namely the wrapper going from a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with Cameroon binder and Nic fillers to a PA broadleaf wrap with Sumatra binder and DR/Nic fillers.
I'm a big fan of this stick guess I'll be buying some up for the long haul just in case they blow it.

81256 San Pedro Nicaragua. They’re ok. Just a plain one trick cigar. I bought a box of these hoping for manic a couple years back or so. Smoked it driving it’s fine for that purpose.
