Blade and Bow

First time trying it though I had eyed it for quite awhile......very nice hint of sweetness on the finish.

Pinhook Bourbon N Rye

It's a rye the name comes from a horse or something like that when I did some research? Good but taste a little young and not quite Sazerac good. Will enjoy the bottle but probably not buy again at the $40 price point.

Isn’t that stuff supposedly solera’d with some of the last drops of stitzel Weller juice or am I dreaming that? I grabbed the 22yr a few years ago but never got around to opening it. I liked the regular when I was at the bulleitt experience or whatever they call the diageo thing at stitzel weller

I believe you are correct but from what I understand there is no science to telling how or how much stitzel welller juice influenced this. I have a bottle of blade and bow too but wasn't sure what to expect because of the hype so left it sealed.

By the way Diageo is the JD of whiskey, marketing genius that doesn't give two turds about the people that buy their products

I’ve been spending most of my whiskey budget on independently bottled scotches and armagnacs lately. Diageo prices pretty crazy

Jefferson’s Reserve, small batch. Darned good bourbon. 95 proof. Carmel notes with a deep oak flavor and smoked cinnamon as a finish. Talk about heaven when you are smoking a Liga Privada T-52

That’s the thing Armagnac has some crazy values out there. Cognac too expensive. I only like sherried speyside stuff for the most part with scotch. Only buy it when there are crazy deals on independently bottled things.

I would say better values. Picked up a 90 something pf dailuaine 20yr from signatory vintage for like 65-70 bucks recently.

Also Costco scotch is awesome! I think my local has 2 for 30 bucks Glenfiddich 12yrs right now as well but I’ve still got one unopened somewhere.

costco has a $57 or so single malt...maybe 20 year?...is that a good one?

Supposedly each batch is different and potentially not from the same distillery but I have that one at home unopened and have opened the 18ur speyside sherried and it’s good. I also got a 27yr blend of single grain and single malt at Costco for less than 50 and I like it as well. My one complaint is low proof id prefer barrel proof and pay a slight premium for higher proof.

So I’m enjoying a bourbon I’m confident no one here has ever had, or heard of.

Old Soul

Just released by Cathead Distillery here in the Sip.

Only available in the Sip until summer of 2019.

They did an amazing job with this one. Hope to share some at the herf this spring.

Two rocks glasses very full of Weller, neat no ice no water at room temp.
Thats how I like my bourbon, exactly how it came out of the barrel.

Helped take the edge off, yesterday sucked.

We had to have our cat that my wife got when she was 20 (she’s 36 now) put to sleep. Buried her in the back yard Friday evening.

Went to bed that night heartbroken then we heard a terrible noise at 4:30 am. I walked through the house and found my beagle collie mix that we’d had since we first met and bought our house together in 2005 laying there in our girls bedroom dead.

He was an awesome friend smart and friendly to everyone, loved kids, I could sick him on a stray cat outside and call him back off after he’d put the cat up a tree or out of sight. Neighbors and local Sheriffs office all knew him, he was an escape artist at getting loose and running around town.

Buried him in the dog pen I had built for him, wrapped in the blanket he laid on in his dog house. I left the gate open and unlatched for him.
