Sanford is about 15 miles from my home and office- at the most. It is our county seat. The courthouses are there. The State Attorneys' Office is there. I have appeared in court there and have served on a jury there. I have had hundreds of Sanford residents as my clients over the years. I have interacted with the Sanford Police Department.

Florida has a "stand your own ground" law. Zimmerman claimed self defense. Police investigated at the shooting scene. the State Attorneys Office was called to come to the scene. The State Attorneys Office made a decision that it did not have enough evidence to charge Zimmerman, however, it did formally call for a Grand Jury hearing to decide whether Zimmerman should be charged. This has turned into a civil rights issue, rather than just a shooting with a death.

There is a public outcry from Sanford and the surrounding communities, as well as hundreds of thousands of people across the nation. All of the evidence is not ready yet and most of it has not been made public.


What do you know and what do you think about all of this from what you have read, scene and heard?

Yes he will be treated white here justice dept seems more concerned with this than the black panthers.


What my impression is, reports are conflicting with the kid being on top of him and the shooter chasing the kid. Police seemed to have mishandled this as far as initial actions. And we have a young man that tragically is dead.


And.....racebaters and anti-gun Nazis are taking advantage of the young mans death and disrespecting his family.


There are legitimate concerns about this law and how its applied that's fine to debate with this event. You also have IDIOTS trying to get their 5 minutes of fame with the "wearing hoods" tribute and Spike Lee posting the guys address on Twitter, Black Panthers offering a 10,000$ bounty.......frigging country is filled with idiots on all sides.

I think the press wants to portray this guy as a white racist. He may be a a racist but he really looks hispanic.

But ,in the eyes of the Media Brown on Black crime doesn't make as good a headline.

Since it seems to you that the police botched the investigation, is it possible that they did not?

Even if the police did botch the investigation- is there probable cause (good faith belief that a crime has occurred) to arrest Zimmerman when all the evidence isn't available or known to the public yet?

No I didn't mean the police botched the investigation what I mean was from what I heard they took three days on releasing info (which can help foment rage in a racially sensitive incident).

And they didn't initially arrest the shooter right?
