Of all people, Paul Simon was numero uno. I saw him do a tune-up show for the "Rhythm of the Saints" tour in Peoria Illinois. Somehow, I remember that there were 17 different percussionists on stage. Incredible show. Band was very loose and they would do a song like "The Boxer" 2 or 3 different ways. Simon was clearly having a good time. They played "Call Me Al twice, just for the hell of it because the audience was enjoying it but they kept playing it at different tempo's. It was actually funny.

Second/Third would have to be both times I've seen Lyle Lovett and his Large Band. Ever get a chance LL with The Large Band, do NOT hesitate.

4th - Naked Raygun at a queer bar in Carbondale Illinois. Yeah, I know that's an easy softball, but every month they would turn the place into a Punk bar for a night and they had Naked Raygun down from Chicago. AMAZING show that I walked away from with a chipped tooth.

5th. The final Rush show. I saw Rush 8 times. First time I was 12. The last time I had my 20 year old daughter. The whole crowd was bunch of aging Rush fans and their kids. My daughter was just amazed at the Laser light show and at one point I looked over at her during "Spirit of the Radio" or something and she was grooving and having a good time. Literally brought a tear to my eye. Rush went out on top. Ged and lost a little on his voice but musically, they had never sounded better.

Lots and lots of others. Almost breaking the list was the one that started it all....Seeing Alice Cooper decapitate himself at my first concert at age 7. That started me down a weird path...lol. The 4 times I saw Warren Zevon including the time I got to meet him backstage. Weirdly I saw Eddie Money 3 times. I saw Mitch Ryder put on a show for a bunch of old people and me and a buddy. First half was the hits...second half was him doing weird covers and just having fun. INCREDIBLE show. Seeing Elvis Costello rip through "Shabby Doll" while I leaned on the stage close enough I coulda reached out and grabbed him. Seeing Morris Day & The Time not once but twice. Both times with Teedubbya! Seeing Bootsie Collins...again with Tee. Sipping martinis out of plastic cups while watching Frank Sinatra belt out the standards.

Taking my daughter to some show for her 12th birthday at some $hithole in East St. Louis called Pop's Place and breaking some kid's nose with a backwards headbutt because he wouldn't stop pushing my daughter and me To this day she says it's the coolest thing she's ever seen...lol. Seeing the Amazing Rhythm Aces at a fundraiser for a bloodbank in Springfield Missouri. I do love me some live music.

I wasn't much of a fan of him but when I saw the SNL performance with Lady Blacksmith Mambazo, it really opened my eyes to them and ended up getting a few of their CDs.

This isn't from that SNL show but same year:

Speyside - I saw John Fogerty at Golden Gate Park back in 91. Great show. I've also seen Adam Ant and, as I've mentioned earlier, Mearloaf. I would have loved to have seen Boston but never got to. But seriously man .... Adam Lambert???? Please tell me it was with Queen ?! Lol

I went to some all day rock show in high school that was all hair metal around 1985 or so. One of the bands was Ratt. It was blazingly hot. We finally left at some point in the evening. Drunk, high, sun-burnt, exhausted. We decided going to a buffet restaurant was a good idea. At one point one of my buddies got up to go to the bathroom. After about 20 minutes being gone, I went to check on him. Walked in to the bathroom only to find him naked from the waist down holding his pants under the hand dryer. Long story short, he sat down to take a dump and puked into his pants. He was trying to dry them after rinsing the puke outta them. Needless to say, we got the f*ck outta there because I have no idea how many people walked in on this dumbass teenager staggering around the men's room drunk and half naked. Still not sure how we weren't arrested.

Had a friend who worked security at the then Tweeter center on the beautiful Camden waterfront.
He'd always have at least 10 tickets to every show for 5 years
The paloozas are a blur
I'd never list a favorite as i enjoyed even the worst talent.
Speaking of - OAR that is a fun show when everyone is singing every single word of every single song at the top of their lungs.
I never even heard of these guys but 30,000 people know every word. Don't get me wrong I'd never pay to see those guys but that was fun
The best memories are always of the girls I hooked up with in the lawn
Can't tell you any of their names either

I got to see Jerry Lee Lewis when I was just a fourth grader. Outdoors in a park in San Gabriel, California, the stage was literally bouncing up and down.

Other than that, it was all dancing to small local country/rock bands playing in the bars and dance halls of South Texas.

Not much for concerts and crowds.

Thanks. Never heard of that but I've looked up a couple of concerts I went to and I've got both brain cells spinning around again.

Bad Co. Anthology tour with all original members.
Robin Trower at a small venue off 580
Santana and Robert Randolph and the family band at Red Rocks. Robert Randolph stole the show.
Guess Who (with Burton Cummings) with Joe Cocker opening, also at Red Rocks.
Rush Permanent Waves tour.

I saw JLL in 1970 at the Huntsville Prison Rodeo. At the end of the show, he pushed his piano off the trailer that was the stage in the middle of the arena. Took em 30 minutes to find a tractor to drag the biggest pieces out so the rodeo could continue.

Top 5? Too damn many to pick..](*,)

1. The Who in 1989.
Their 1982 tour was "pure" because they sported only 4 on stage. But they were without Moonie and it felt like they were old. In '89 they said F'- it. They got a backing band. Horns. Keyboards. Another dude on guitar. They had a good drummer (I think it was Simon Phillips) and they were having fun.

2. Talking Heads.
About 1984-ish?
Maybe the best concert. But they're not The Who.

3. J. Geils.
Any of the 6 or 8 times I've seen them. (even once opening for Bon Jovi).
Peter Wolf and company just know how to rock.

4. Van Halen with DLR
Panama.
Nuff said.

5. John Hiatt
Cape Cod Melody Tent
Just a great time with my beautiful bride.

I love music. Spotify is why god created the internet. But I'd rather see a no-name band in a bar than most major acts in a stadium. I'm not against big concerts. I just prefer the intimacy.
YMMV
