I believe we would have attacked regardless of whether they have oil or not. I'm not saying the fact that they have lots of oil doesn't somehow factor in to the equation, but surely the primary reason was for our own safety and national security... How much oil are we getting from Afghanistan for Gods sake!??

If another country with the same resources and potential to fund terrorist interests and blatant hatred for the US were out there, they had better be very concerned… Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya, North Korea are all taking notice of what we did. They’re scared of us and they’d damn well better be.

When you’re successful as the US has been, and powerful, you will be a target. Others will hate you (covet) solely for what you have attained, “preeminence”. We’re a Tera-power, and there are those who hate us for that (jealous). We’re also a free society albeit a disappearing freedom, we still have more freedom than many, and most certainly more freedom than the great unwashed masses kneeling to the east with some turban clad yodeler in a tower calling everyone “to prayer” (Death to the Great White Satan, Amen).

Face it Chris, Spence, Rick, there are those who would love nothing more than to acquire weapons of mass destruction and use them against us in major metropolitan areas killing MILLIONS and perhaps even you. They dream of this, they plan it, many work tirelessly toward this end. For you to think that their hatred of us is somehow imagined, or self-fulfilling is at the very least Pollyannaish and at the most fool hardy.

Robby - You are very wrong, and assume a level of naivity that is quite humerous. I acknowledge and concede the fact that there are countless groups that hate us, and I know that they will do everything in their power to hurt and destroy us. That is an unarguable fact. The real question is: Is it are job as a "tera-power" to seek them out and destroy them first, or to protect ourselves from attack and when we are atacked strike back with such ferocity as to ward off the very though of future attacks? Last I checked we were'nt part of the minority report with the power to predict crimes/murders...

Your damn analogy is correct, but your assumptions are off in my opinion. You assume that this war has helped delay or prevent one of those holes in the damn from bursting, my concern is that it will have the opposite effect given the possibility of it being started under false pretenses, and that is very scary.

And your little jab about hating america, are you really that blind? I bring up these points out of a deep love for our country and what we've gone through and sacrificed to become the nation we are. If it turns out that the WMD story was total bull**** do you somehow think that will be a good thing for our nation? That's why I bring it up, it could be devastating, and I think a lot of the war mongers have no clue or ability for reason around this subject.
