Sonny, why dont you try teaching your kids to respect, fear and be responsible around guns. Guns were around my house as a child and I never thought to go thru my dads closet to "play" with them.
But then I have respect for others peoples property also. I never went thru my mother purse looking for candy or money

All children learn through experience. What you don't teach them, they'll explore on their own - and that's a fact of life.
Don't teach them about DRUGS, and see what happens!

I have to agree and disagree, kids are kids no matter what. I don't agree with too much controll, but parents have to .......BE PARENTS!!! I have guns in my house, and my kids, the ones old enough have seen them and touch them, my 12 year old even has her own gun, I keep it for her, but if she wants to go shooting all she has to do is ask, I'll drive her to the range and get some rounds off. She is no longer all that interested in guns, go figure!!! LOL

I have kids that I love very much, this is in part why I have guns.

If you dont take the mystery out of something they will in fact explore it on their own what ever it is.

Education is extremely important. Teaching them to respect the power of a gun essential.

When the learn the proper way to shoot they will be able to protect themselves in the future and possibly the rest of the family one day.

Not all gun owners are as educated as the people in this forum, which one reason why we here about guns at school and playgrounds.

I do not consider gun locks to be a bad thing. Do I use them - no. My children have been taught well just like I was as a child. My Dad always had guns and I would never have considered touching them except in his presence. I do keep my hunting ammo and guns in different locations.

Sonny, did your Dad have guns? Did he use locks?

I have a son, 15 months old. I used to keep mine locked and loaded. I purchased a nice gun cabinet/safe. They'll still be loaded, but in the safe. I could not live with myself if something happened to my son as a result of my actions...

When they're older, you can teach them gun saftey, when they're babies and little kids, you need to keep them out of harms way.

Tony, when I was young, I wasn't taught gun safety, rather it was SCARED into me by my father. Yet, one afternoon when i was a young teen, my father had placed a Remmington 870 on the couch. As I and a friend passed by I picked it up, chambered a round, and almost pointed it in the direction (not at) of my friend as a joke......well, judging from the blood-curdleing scream from my dad at the other end of the house (he heard me chamber it), i realized it was loaded. I relearned a valuable lesson that day, one that had been preached to me over and over: assume EVERY gun is loaded......but, for that moment I had forgotten it. I wasn't a stupid child, but just a child, and children make mistakes.....just sometimes those mistakes can be deadly.

Gun safes, lockes, etc. are NOT an infringement on anybody's right to bear arms!

My son is 8 and he has already attended the safety class the NRA sponsors. Would I trust him alone in a room with a loaded gun, probably not. My weapons are all for hunting only. I have no pistols. So they are not kept loaded or accessable.

I have several guns in the house. My kids are well educated as to their abilities. There is only ammunition for one of the guns in the house. The rest I keep in a safe. The one gun is for protection and has a squeeze gun lock. In an emergency it takes me 1.5 seconds to get it off the gun. None of the kids have enough finger strength to get the squeeze lock off the gun. The rest have key or cable locks, since they aren't for home protection.

I am going to purchase a gun safe for under the bad which is finger coded. Takes a little longet to get to but it is quick enough.

Key locks for trigger locks are a bad idea on your primary defense gun. There are plenty of alternatives.

It's amazing how the extreme pro gunners go way off to prove a point. The cartoon is pretty stupid and alarmist.
