But what about the 1.5 million dead that are a direct result of our policy against Iraq?

Between 1991 and 2000, over 500,000 children in Iraq died of diseases mostly related to water-borne virus and dehydration. This after we blew up all their water treatment plants in 91, and then left the country for 10 years with sanctions in place.

We destroyed the infrastructure, put sanctions in place, then sat back and watched the kids die. Finally when we were ready, we went in to claim that oil, and call ourselves heroes. For 15 years, we planned, staged, and are currently executing this illegal and immoral set of crimes against humanity. If you think any different, then you are nowhere near as you think to even remotely understanding the USA's foreign policy.

This whole thing did not start with GWB...it's been going on for 15 years. Some of you act as if it's a new thing.

adroomi, If bush wanted the oil he would have dropped the sanctions. France & russia wanted the oil, they wanted to drop the sanctions. If bush wanted to help his "rich Texas oil buddies" we keep heasring about from moveon.org he would have stopped oil from the middle east, thus raising the value of Texas crude. It can't be both ways pick one! As to the sanctions, welfare moms trade their food stamps for drug etc all the time. It is not becouse they don't get enough food stamps. Just my .02$ worth, Bill P.S. we know he had WmD's becouse we sold them to him.... before W was president.

When did he drop the sanctions?

Compare the date of when he dropped the sanctions to the date that the Federal Government Contractors arrived to "rebuild." Is it clearer now?

How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!

It's not the country he's rippin' on - it's the evil, greedy bastards that have seized power by taking away our right to have our votes counted!

You seem to be under the mistake idea that the deficit was eliminated. Clinton had the first budget surplus since Nixon and that reduced the deficit total. We are still suffering from the Reagan overspending, even more so in the future with bush's cut and spend policy.

Adroomi,
US sanctions did not kill 1.5MM Iraqis.
Saddam did.

Regardless of this current war effort, and who did what to whom and when, you can not logically deny that. Lose the "shock and awe" statistics that are blatant lies and your post will become more digestible and relevant.

This is a very sophomoric statement, and in fact makes very little sense, even in support of your anti-Bush viewpoint.
First of all, we DID go into Afghanistan before we went into Iraq.
Next, Saddam never made an attempt at George W's life.
He supposedly tried to kill George Herbert Walker Bush. Known as President Bush, George Bush, George H. W. Bush, President Bush's father, and many other names, but never George W. That's our sitting president.

Just thought you should know for future reference.

Tailgater,
How little you know about foreign policy. Saddam Hussein did not kill 1.5 million of his people. He killed a helluva lot of them, but 1.5 million can be directly attributed to our sanctions against them.

I suggest you do a bit of research on this and then come back to me with your retort. It will make for a healthy debate. If you feel I am wrong, please give me your reasons. I will then give you my reasons for being right.

Whether we like to admit it or not, our sanctions that we impose on foreign countries are the "bullying" tools that we use to get them to "agree" and "bend" to our will. Why do we impose sanctions......in other words, what purpose do they serve? They don't hurt the rich leaders of the said nation, but rather cause mass starvation, unemployment, and poverty to the middle and lower class of these nations. This puts the leader (Saddam or whomever) in a position to either bend to our rules and demands, or watch his people and country die.

Right or wrong, evil or not, WE (yes we) killed more Iraqi's between 1990 and 2001 than Saddam ever did.

That's the facts Jack, and that's why people don't like us too much over there.

Somebody please explain this "sanction" business to me. Is it simply an embargo.....like we did to Cuba?
