Dsmokers, the point is that it is UNSUSTAINABLE to have a growing number of welfare recipients. So unless income taxes are raised (a lot) and we borrow even more money from China and the international banking cartel, s-hit is gonna crash eventually.

Technically it's AFDC - Aid to Families with Dependant Children. In the 90's that was then changed to TANF - Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.

What a lot of people don't know is that anyone that receives Welfare must also cooperate with child support. If a child receives Medicaid, there has to be at the very least a medical order. So the costs of welfare actually reach out further than most people know since we are federally funded by 66% federal funds. Illegals, they get emergency welfare but not like legal people do. We still however have to provide free child support for them. Most of time it's a dead case since they don't have ssn"s and if one is used we waste money chasing someone who they stole the # from. There's a 5 year lifetime cap on welfare, but they just switch off custody alot of the times to keep the check coming.

I understand people need help. But if you show no effort to do for yourself other than to pick up the phone and bitch about why your check is late, or that the state workers have another holiday when you ass is on permenant vaca, you should be put into a lifeskill program with the promise of employment or you get cut off after a certain time. 5 years is too long to languish and it just breeds complacency.

Funny thing is the feds make you adhere to certain standards. That's understandable, it's your tax money, you should expect a reasonable return on your money right? Well when they make the standards so high and then they stack the deck against you to the point that you can't reach their lofty goals, they withhold funds. Now the states have to make up the difference and you get situations like they have in California where the states are going broke, begging and pleading the feds to do something, anything to help. The welfare/illegal problems are rampant.

You can sanction a client for non-coop. However the benefits will never stop for a child. A Tanf sanction will cut off cash to the entire household, but they know how to string the agencies along so it looks like they're cooperating, but they aren't. Now, is everyone like this? Obviously not. But you can't have an agency whose job it is to give money away, also have a division whose job it is to take money. They ought to be seperate agencies because you have to have a means to recoupe the money without being beholding to the agencies rules that give it.

We have a boatload of labor sitting in prisons. Instead of giving stimulus money to bs projects, give it to the states to fund programs to give people an option to learn a skill or work off their offense. We have way too many repeat offenders going in and out of prison like a motel. Again, what are we really getting for our tax dollars? A criminal off the street? Well when we fill the prisons and we start relaxing the sentences they aren't doing anything other than going through the motions and wasting more tax dollars. The people in prison are getting housed, fed and medical for free. It's no womder they go on welfare when they get out. It's what they know.

This won't change just by changing some rules here and there. You have to make a change that effects a whole generation so that THEIR kids don't get caught in the cyle. That means tough love. Unpopular changes. And politicians don't like to be unpopular.
