The Ford Edsel is synonymous with automotive failure...but GM had a similar bust in the Cadillac Cimarron, which nearly shuttered the Cadillac brand...

A neighbor had one, as well as a co-worker...neither kept them for very long...it was basically an unremarkable Cavalier with Caddy badges...

I was not a fan of the Cavalier. Applying lipstick, Cadillac badges and the Cimarron name did nothing except male it a more expensive dog.

The Cadillac Cimarron failed because it was essentially a rebadged Chevrolet Cavalier, failing to live up to Cadillac's image of luxury and performance, and ultimately appealing to neither Cadillac's traditional buyers nor those who favored European luxury brands.

seems Caddy is now going heavily into the youthful sporty market, jumping into Formula 1 racing after several years of success on the top tier of the IMSA sports car circuit

The phrase "chalk and cheese" is a common English idiom used to describe two things that are completely different or incompatible. It is often used to highlight the contrast between two items, people, or situations that have little in common.

Chameleons are known for having the best peripheral vision among animals, with their eyes capable of swiveling independently to provide a nearly 360-degree field of vision. This unique ability allows them to detect potential threats from almost any direction without moving their heads.

Chesterton's Fence

Chesterton's Fence is a principle that advises careful consideration before removing or altering something, especially if its purpose is not immediately obvious. The core idea is that you shouldn't eliminate a rule, law, or practice without first understanding why it was put in place.

Here's a breakdown:

The core concept: Before you remove a fence (representing an existing institution or practice), understand why it was initially erected.

The rationale: Things didn't get there by accident. There was likely a reason, even if it's not immediately apparent.

The risk: Removing it without knowing the reason can lead to unintended negative consequences.

The intelligent reformer: The "intelligent type of reformer" first seeks to understand the purpose of the fence before clearing it away.

Not about blindly holding onto the past: It's about understanding the past before moving forward.

The "Scream Test": If you can't figure out the purpose, remove it and see if anyone protests. But use this sparingly and on low-risk changes.

In short, Chesterton's Fence encourages humility and a deeper understanding of existing systems before attempting to change them.

The gap between what the L.A. Dodgers and the Miami Marlins are spending on their respective rosters this year. As a new baseball season gets under way, the financial disparity between MLB’s 30 teams has never been greater. That’s alienating fans, distorting the game and making a long work stoppage all but inevitable.
