This is my work car. I've had it for a couple weeks. We use it to sneak up on truck drivers and people doing 100+.

WOW! Nice to see taxpayer's money going to a really good use! While you're waiting for that speeder to go by I bet there's a decent chance that some where in a 25 mile radius that you could really be used.

Walk a beat!

Unfortunately I find that there are a lot of people who assume at face value that certain jobs could be better done elsewhere or in a different way.

I am sure Mr Madd that I can look at your occupation and find a dozen ways you can do your job better or in a different way.

Ignorance, lack of research and assumption are one's worst enemies.

1. These patrol cars were purchased for less than the cost of a regular patrol car.

2. They are special purpose and assigned to officers who are trained in commercial enforcement and inspection and use the vehicles for that purpose.

4. I am sure that within a 25 mile radius, my services could be better used elsewhere if it was my job to be a local Police Officer or Sheriff Deputy. Yes I could be out chasing robbers and bad check writers if , 20 years ago, I chose to be a "beat" cop.

5. There is a lot of proactive and reactive work I do. Sorry if it isn't standing in front of your house keeping burglars out...refer to #4. My job is on the road.

6. I don't dole out happiness to everyone. Unfortunately many ignorant, presumptive people think all we do is write tickets and eat doughnuts.

I showed this picture on this site because I wanted to share something I thought was cool. I have worked 20 years on this job picking up teenage brains from car wrecks. Holding traction on a badly disfigured body for 2 hours while firemen tried to extracate a victim from a piece of twisted Detroit metal. Knocking on a door at 3AM to tell a wife or mother that loved one is not coming home. Living every working moment to keep my wife and kids from having that same message delivered to them.

After 20 years of dedication: Never serving time off on a suspension, never having a citizen complain against me. Never having my career scrutinized by a Grand Jury. Working every shift, every day, rain or shine. My reward is to get to drive the fast, cool (be it extremely uncomfortable) car for a few months.

I just enjoy sharing a fun moment with my cigar smoking friends here. Not to have my career scrutinized by someone who probably deserves more attention from law enforcement than respect.

That wasn't directed at you Charlie.

The car is rated at 161+ mph. I will never find out how fast this one goes. I do know this one will get up to freeway speeds in about 3-4 seconds...maybe less but I haven't "punched it" yet.

I get to take the car home from time to time because (due to my assignment) I work a large 4 county area with variable hours. It's a perk, probably short term, but an interesting tool for the time I have it.

I stand by my statement.

Typical.

I'm sure you'll be taking it out on some motorist too!

Rayder, being an ardent supporter of Police and Firemen as protectors of our property and freedoms, I salute you for your job.......while I get angry if I get a ticket, I must say that I have deserved each and every one that I have been awarded! It has been many years since I got stopped for speeding; however, if I do get nailed it will be one I deserve!

The comment about our illustrious governor was meant in jest, but will probably come true!!!

Keep up the good work!

Raydar,

Isn't it FUN having to DEFEND something that you posted - thinking it was cool or interesting?

Next time, maybe someone will think it narcistic...I mean, since it is pertaining directly to you!

I'm not putting you down, just been there...I think it's a great pic, only you aren't in it! A mug shot would be nice eventually...

Oh, and stay off my tail! 1 ticket in my lifetime

;*)~

I know what you drive!! Hehe. Naw...you get a break from me anytime. I'm easy that way. Doesn't make the boss happy though.

As for defending my posts. I usually regret responding to pointless idiot comments right after I hit the "post" button. After reading SteveS "Newbie" thread in the Cigar Forum, I'll attempt to modify my responses.

That way it won't accomodate those who's only purpose to post is to cause a disturbance.

I've had that thing up to 120 to catch a couple cars doing 105 on I-5. even at 120, it doesn't feel like it is going that fast. Really sticks to the road.

The gas pedal was only 1/4 down and a lot of RPM's left on the tachometer.

It was tested at our academy in a closed course at 165. That was not the absolute top end, they just ran out of course to go faster.

It is the aluminum block and aluminum head 350 CI. It is the R4C Camaro without a governing or performance limiting chip.

I would like to retire without having a medical disability. I don't think there's a time or place to legally find out the top end in this car without jeapordizing myself or someone else. Nonetheless, this thing is a pretty impressive performer.

Rayder -

So tell me ... are you a State Cop or a Pimp?

Sorry - can't tell the difference because of that car you drive .... hehe

Very niiiice!
Traffic is only one part of the job....For nearly every state police organization (which primarily patrols the highways and handles numerous crashes (some of which are horrendous with lots of bodily fluids and body parts strewn about), one of the main functions is traffic....Excessive speed (among other factors) does cause crashes...Not many domestic disturbances (although some) and burglaries occur on the highways. Traffic selective enforcement is a legitimate part of police work, whether we like it or not...Belittling Raydar for doing a part of his job is pretty rude IMHO...I think it's a cool picture...Gotta be better than the Crown Vic (POS) I drive...At least it's not a Ford..LOL
