I thought we were talking sentence commutation not pardoning?

Gov. George Ryan commuted the sentences of 167 condemned inmates...

commute

\Com*mute"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Commuted; p. pr. & vb. n. Commuting.] [L. commutare, -mutatum; com- + mutare to change. See Mutation.] To exchange; to put or substitute something else in place of, as a smaller penalty, obligation, or payment, for a greater, or a single thing for an aggregate; hence, to lessen; to diminish; as, to commute a sentence of death to one of imprisonment for life; to commute tithes; to commute charges for fares.

...He Pardoned all those Con's

pardon

\Par"don\, n. [F., fr. pardonner to pardon. See Pardon, v. t.] 1. The act of pardoning; forgiveness, as of an offender, or of an offense; release from penalty; remission of punishment; absolution.

Maybe I misread...

Saudi Arabia,Kuwait,Yeman? i said civilized countries.

your tour was short, 4 years is not short.

"it seems to me you are still bitter over America and Americanizm as a whole" let me see if this example helps you understand. do you like your home? i like mine. i do, probably much like you do, try to improve it. your improvements and mine may differ, does that make either one of us bitter.

..."I am just Glad God" by now you should realize i have no interest in anyone's concept of a god. however feel free to thank any one you like. that's the american way.

Kenneth Allen,60: was convicted of killing two Chicago Police Officers in an ambush on 115th Street in 1979. Allen, who was angry atPolice after they searched his house and confiscated seven guns after a 19 hour stand-off, randomly attacked the two officers three months later while out on bond. Armed with three guns and 250 rounds of ammunition, Allen killed the two officers- one of them a Mt. Greenwood resident who begged for his life after running out of bullets in the gunfight- and shot at several other cops responding to the scene. At his sentence hearing, Allen acknowledged he deserved the death penalty, although he claimed to have been a "peace-loving person" before the police took his guns. The Police Officers were William Bosak,33 and Roger Van Shaik,31. Rick, the Bosaks were close, personal friends of our family. My brother, a Chicago Police Officer, was one of the first to respond to the scene and the memory still haunts him. There was no mistake in this case... the POS admitted to the crime...no mistake with DNA or witnesses did not pick the wrong guy...! The only mistake that was made was by the current sitting Gov. who will leave office in two hours and eventually be indicted for his own crimes! Once again, you speak of an issue that you know NOTHING about! One example of my personal interest in this issue! CJ, Thanks for taking the time to enlighten all of us on the proper use of a dictionary...but I think most of us already knew the diifference between commutation and pardon!

Todog,

You are right about the dictionary. MOST of us know the difference but ONE of us may not.

Adolph Eichman was an animal but my guy Kenneth Allen was just a peace-loving person unjustly put on death row. Sorry Rick, you can't have your cake and eat it also. You're either for or against the death-penalty! In this country or any other!

Also CJ, thank God that our infamous Gov. knew the difference between pardon and commutation.....might have changed your perspective!

Again...just to reiterate my position....all that I asked of Gov. Ryan was that he REVIEW each case individually!(only 167 for his big staff of attorney's) If there were mistakes made in any of the cases, single them out for review! He gave BLANKET COMMUTATION for all 167 cases without reviewing any of the cases individually and without regard for the victims and their families...and without regard to the law! Great decision making by a man who was a Pharmacist by vocation and a POLITICIAN by trade!

Todog,

I suggest you read the postings again. Where did I post anything "For" or "against" on this topic? All I said was that there were some shady law enforcement dealings going on in.

Actually, his dumb ass actions may do more to strengthen the death penalty in other states and in Illionis due to backlash! I am certainly not for this action!!! What a dumb **** he is and he claims to be a Republican?

CJ, I was talking about the difference between pardon and commute, not whether you were for or against the death penalty. I take issue with the blanket commutation given to these animals without individual review of each case. I would venture to guess that you're pro-death penalty but with reservations due to the errors that have occurred in some cases.

Very reminiscent of Clinton's last minute pardon frenzy ... clearly, there is an agenda beyond 'being sure no innocents are executed' ... one might suppose it's an attempt to strike back at the system in which he is himself ensnared ... a sort of an "oh yeah?, well I'll show YOU" thing ... what an incredibly sorry, sad-ass thing to do, irrespective of which party he mis-represents ....

Richard Speck killed 17 young nurses in the 1950s. He died of natural causes a few years ago in a kind of homosexual heaven, laughing about his evil deeds and cavorting happily with his cellmates, enjoying his cigarettes, tv, exercise yard, hot showers, etc. Was it just that the state allowed him 40 years or so of perverted bliss while his innocent victims rotted in their graves and their families wept over their photographs and the grandchildren they never had?

Call it anything you like, but do not call it just.

Mag: I concur. A 'case by case' independent analysis, review, and reconsideration seems more appropriate than a blanket commutation.
