Should be illegal on any street legal vehicle. I’ve already dodged two today that were lying in the middle of I-80 and I’ve been driving for less than 30 minutes.

I think they are required for some states that have good roads. Since you don't have to dodge potholes, tire treads in the road add to the sporting nature of auto travel.

It's wrong, it's un-fkn-safe... and it's a hazard to other drivers. And when the other driver hits that sheit... the trucker is usually long gone and the poor driver is stuck with the bill.

Crappy new tires do disintegrate and I think there may be a lot more good retreads rolling down the highways than bad, but maybe someone in the trucking industry can comment?

Retreads are a BAD idea. Period.

They're not as good as a new tire, and it's just cutting corners. Take into account that semi's are toting thousands of pounds worth of goods... on a sheit tire???

C'mon, man... not a good idea AT ALL.

All good, Gene... wait until the truck in front of you throws a tread and you hit it. When it does 3k worth of damage to your car, lemme know how you feel. Especially when the truck doesn't know it threw the tread and is long gone while you're on the side of the road with a busted radiator, lights and front end.

And when your insurance company asks who they should go after for the damages? What'cha gonna say? Um... that truck, um... that I didn't quite get the plate of... on such and such highway?

Yup... trucker gives no f---s. Company gives even less.

It's a fucking BAD idea. Retreads should be banned.

Actually, we already had a large chunk of rubber smash through the front end of the Acura Integra we used to own. Another reason I try to stay far away from truck as much as possible.

OTOH, I've had miscelanious chunks of steel destroy tires and a family member had a pipe or bar fly through their windshirld and out the back window of a station wagon. Luckely, it was centered and missed both of them.

I like to know all the facts befor outlawing something and I'm not convinced all retreads are bad. I've had factoy tires come apart and in the poor days put many miles on retreaded tires.

I had retreads on an old Falcon way back when that lost a retread on my way back home from work. It came off in pieces and made a racket. I also remember a non-retread Uniroyal that peeled off on a car I drove back then.

I used to dodge retreads all the time on I-95 with trunks full of "organic green" back in the late 70's early 80's...

Then I would dodge retreads(as the well known "snub whitey" handle) on the PA turnpike In green non discript Buicks with no serial #'s snub nosed .38's filled with $100's of thousands of dollars in the trunk in old Samsonite suitcases in very low denominations that added up to big big money for the Democratic National committee from cleveburg, to Pittsburgh to Philadelphia warehouses.....from1982-86...
