That was a My Father Special S. I agree that there are no real transitions, but I've found it to be a tasty mid-range.

I'm glad I sent my sticks to you, frozen. Cheers on a reviewing job well done.

That Tat Black is IMO spectacular. I've only had the box for a few weeks but am already worried about it running out. The PSD4 may be a little on the young side but tasted good fresh to me.

Weapon X Cigar review #1

Cigar #1 from Hillbilly

I'm guessing it was 6x48 dark brown wrapper
I couldn't quite get the flavors down throughout the stick, mixed pepper with a little bit of sweetness, one thing for sure it put out a lot of smoke all the way to the end !Straight burn all the way, no touch ups needed.
If i were a guessing man this was some sort of De product, perhaps a LP or a Nica rustica?

Man o man Weapon I'm sure glad you liked it, that was one of my favorite yard gars.
You have probably heard me rant about this one before. And I have been shunned a time or two for mentioning it.

Weapon X review #2

Cigar #3 from Hillbilly

I'm guessing a 6x52 torpedo dark wrapper nice aroma pre-lit, very easy draw, perhaps too easy, almost chuked after the 1st inch, lots of smoke and somewhat bitter taste, glad i decided to tough it out, the rest of the stick was very good, kinda creamy, some pepper, and fairly smooth, some nutty taste towards the end and it got a bit stonger, all in all a very good smoke on a 70 degree day with no wind.

#3 cigar is in fact Don Pepin Garcia My Father #1 or #2 hard to tell the difference is like .25 of an inch.
I found these to be a heavy smoker as well. Easy on the draw, unlike the Le Bijou petite robusto.

Hold on to your azz for that mystery #2 stick. Might want to save that for after supper if that MF bought got your cookies.

Cigar #2 from the Hillbilly

Box pressed toro, dark brown wrapper, cut the tip, easy pre lit draw with the nicotine present. many different flaavors in this one, creamy, pepper and a little nutty. burned all the way to the tip with no touchups, very nice smoke, I was expecting a very strong cigar per the warning, but seemed med-full for me, might have been that i took my time and enjoyed it on the patio tonight.

#2 this was a biggie, 6x54 dark drown. Little light with a couple soft spots but looks good. Straight cut paired with a DFH chicory stout. Starts off smooth with plenty of smoke with no pepper. Strength mild-med to medium by the mid point. Not much change in flavor just enjoyable tobaccy. Needed a few touch-ups. By the final third I was tired so put it out early. Over all it was a deceit stick. To big foe me to be an everyday smoke. Would guess yard gar.
Thanks weaponX

Going for #3 mystery stick from frozen
This stick is the exact same size as the toro Gurkha beast but a lot lighter.
Dark tan wrapper. Tight visible, tight pack. Perfect double cap.
Oily satin finish.
First light good draw. Smooth creamy smoke. Short finish hints of tobacco and cedar. Mild at most
Let's get into the first third and see how it developsAnxious

Shortly into the first third the body has ramped up to a mild medium. Lots of smoke off the foot. Not much on the draw.
I'm tasting a hint of vanilla bean on the retro. 15 minutes in and I'm down over an inch. Good burn not razor sharp. Tight light gray ash still holding on in the wind. Still a smooth short finish. Kinda getting a buzz which is surprising for the body being so mild but this is the first stick of the day so bear with me.

Ash fell off shortly into the second third in one solid chunk. Just a minor transition in flavors. Tasting alittle bit of Carmel on the finish now, taking on a sweeter profile. Still a short creamy finish. Still quite a bit of resistance on the draw which is surprising being I used my 50 bmg punch from dan the man. But producing a fair amount of smoke. The foot smoke has did down tremendously. Still a very smooth smoke.

Getting closer to the half way point I decided to whittle a hole out of the center of the punch the draw became almost to tight and wasn't producing hardly any smoke. This really helped. Now I'm being blasted with plenty of smoke with all the flavors described above. Consistence burn, excellent construction. No issues other than the draw. But still a very mild to medium smoke more on the mild side.

Coming into the final third, this has been a very enjoyable cigar. Pretty constant on the flavors and strength. Body has increased abit. Ash fell of again at the beginning of the last third in one solid chunk.
Body and strength have ramped up a good bit, still considering a perfect morning smoke.
I've whittled down a good quarter of an inch into the punch hole there is a massive stem with the diameter of a no2 pencil lead. I know of one premium cigar manufacturer that consistently includes this technique in there blend.

Getting down to the nub construction still holding up. I have been throttling it trying to get it to warm up, and it's handling it perfect. Still nice and tight pack, not too hot at all, still fairly smooth and creamy in flavor.

The cedar has ramped up a good bit leaving an oily long finish on the back of the palate.

Final thoughts this was a very good stick I will definitely be getting some of these. Good buzz factor smooth creamy draw. Oily smoky cedar finish. Two thumbs up with a smile.

Thanks again frozen. I am curious to know what this stick was. Stayed tight down to the nub. I have been able to get all my cigars to go mushy after doing my final throttles but not this one.Herfing

Well Hillbilly, That 6x60 beauty was a Cain F.

I went with the bigger RG for this one, as I remembered it being a little smoother. I have been loving my Cain F Lanceros lately and found that one hiding in my mixed section, and knew you liked the fuller cigars and thought it would be a good one for ya.

Glad you enjoyed all of the sticks that I sent ya... all on the fuller side, but shows you the wide range of goods.

Got my sticks from illini today, thanks brudda! In addition to the 3 unbanded he threw in a Viaje Skull and Bones, a 7-20-4 Corona and something that says "Pedro Pouch" (I think?) Little help?

Thanks again, will post up the first review, at least, over the weekend.

Stick #2 from illini. (as far as I can tell, these sticks are labeled 2, 3 and 4? or maybe the 4 is a 1 sideways? and what does "pedro pouch" mean?

5.5 x 50, medium-brown, dry and smooth wrapper, couple of veins, barely-visible seams with a double cap. Faint aroma of tobacco and hay, cold draw tastes of raisin and wood. Paired this with an iced coffee.

Lights easily, starts off with a blast of pepper and buttery earth. Tingles on the retrohale, no detectable strength yet. Very easy draw with just the right amount of resistance. Very nice start.

As I move through the first third, the pepper has dialed back quite a bit, and now I've got a nice touch of sweetness with some nuttiness mixed in. The burn line is a bit wavy but requires no corrections yet. Ash is holding so far through the first inch+. The finish is long, lasting until the next puff, with a little bit of tingly spice on the lips.

Moving into the 2nd third, I'm getting some more baking spice-type flavors...nutmeg or allspice or whatever. It's a flavor I associate with Cubans, mostly. I'd put the strength at mild-medium and the body at a solid medium+ right now. This is a very enjoyable flavor profile for me, and the finish is rich and oily. The smoke is smooth and buttery, and pairs well with the coffee. The ash fell off in a soild 2-inch chunk (onto my keyboard, because where else would it fall?) I still don't notice any vitamin N, but that's often the case for me.

It went out on me right near the halfway point, but I got a phone call and left it alone for too long, so it's my fault. Upon relighting I get another blast of pepper, before it settles back into the former flavors -- nuts and baking spices.

The final third is much the same flavor-wise, but I'm feeling a little bit of a buzz, so I'll call it medium strength. As I said this was very enjoyable if not terribly complex. This might be the premium, but I'm gonna guess that it's the midrange stick. If it's the yardgar I'll buy a box immediately. I'll go out on a limb and say that Pepin had a hand in this...maybe My Father or Tatuaje? I feel like I've had this before but can't quite place it.

Well, illini?

pedro pouch is a pedro's pearl. got some just a good stick, that I picked up several of in a bet with one of the guys here during a poker game.

As for #2 - That was a DPG cuban classic, and that was the yard gar in the box. . .

nice guess.

Stick #3 from illini is a box-pressed 6 1/2 x 50, or so...it's kinda rectangular. Nice looking wrapper which is dark brown and a little oily. Faint, sweet aroma of cocoa and cedar with a caramel-y cold draw. Pairing this with water for now, but we'll see how long that lasts.

The first few puffs are all pepper again (Pepin?), and the retrohale burns a little, but not too bad. The draw is easy and the smoke is medium-thick. I'm getting some faint caramel and coffee mixed in with the pepper, plus a slight citrus-y quality that is very nice. The finish is persistent, tingling on my palate until the next puff.

As I move through the 1st third the pepper recedes a little and I'm left with sweet lemony, spicy, delicious notes. Man, this is an excellent cigar. I'm gonna guess right now, 10 minutes in, that this is a Tatuaje Cojonu 2012 with the habano wrapper...it's the only other cigar I've tried with these flavors, which are just spectacular. I think the size is right, but I kinda hope I'm wrong, because then I could buy that stick, too. Er, this stick, too. Both of 'em, actually.

The ash is holding firm through the first 2 inches and the burn is razor sharp. It's a slow burner -- just over 30 minutes to get to this point. The overwhelming flavor is still lemon, which is just fine with me, but there's some baking spice and a buttery mouthfeel. I'm not feeling any nicotine just yet, and I'd put the body at a medium-full. The smoke is not creamy exactly, but there's absolutely no harshness either.

Moving into the 2nd third and the flavors have shifted a little...I'd say the caramel is more prominent, maybe a little bread-y too, but the finish is still citrusy and clean. The retrohale is the same -- clean and cool, and it brings out the baking spice flavors. No major transitions, which is just fine with me. This thing is a flavor bomb.

Past the halfway point now and it's still going strong. Razor sharp burn, no corrections needed, ash lasting for an inch-plus at a time. Starting to feel a slight nicotine rush, but nothing that I can't handle. That could also be the Vicodin, though.

Getting some more black pepper now in the final third. It's not quite as lemony but it's every bit as delicious. Mixed with the pepper is some earth and cedar, maybe a little grassy or floral flavors in there. The smoke is still cool and smooth, and I'm getting some more strength too. I smoked this thing down to the nub and loved every puff. It lasted 1 hr and 40 minutes.

So, illini, what was it?

Stick #1 from illinichaser is a stout 3.5 x 54 with a dark brown wrapper, firmly packed, tight seams, a partially closed foot and a double cap. There is a faint aroma of chocolate and some barnyard notes. Straight cut, paired with coffee. Cold draw tastes of wood and earth. It is dense and firm like a bullet.

First few puffs have a woodsy and leathery quality which is just slightly tingly on the retrohale. Unlike the 1st two sticks, I don't think this is a Pepin product, as there's not much in the way of pepper. The finish has an almost medicinal quality, but pleasantly so, and lasts between puffs. It's also making my coffee taste better, and for that I am grateful. It's putting out a medium amount of smoke which is actually on the thin side despite being full-flavored. Good start.

As I move through the 1st third I'm now getting a little bit of pepper that was missing from the beginning, although mostly there are continuing dark flavors of earth and leather and that slight numbing sensation. I can also feel the strength just 10 minutes in, which is often not the case for me, so I'll call this one full in that dept. The burn is a wavy and required a touch-up, but nothing that ruined my fun. I'm getting some berry or cherry too -- it seems like every puff on this thing brings out some new flavors that demand your attention. It's burning really slow, which is not surprising given how dense it is. I'm also noticing some resin-y tar buildup on the cap that rubs off like motor oil. Never seen anything quite like it.

20 minutes in and I'm less than an inch of the way through. I'm starting to realize that this was not a first-thing-in-the-morning-on-an-empty-stomach stick. Oops. It looked so small and non-threatening! I signed up for this review, so I'll power through, but...eek. The ash is as black as any other stick I've smoked -- reminds me of the Viajes I've smoked, which might be a good guess for this one.

Flavors continue to duck in and out...some wood, some bread, some cocoa and coffee, a slight floral component which is nice. Not much in the way of baking spices, but a slight sweetness that I would describe as caramel or maybe molasses. I can't believe the liquid tar oozing out of the cap, and it occurs to me that maybe smoking these things is not good for us? I don't want to jump to any rash conclusions though...further study needed.

Finally into the 2nd third and the flavors are meshing a bit more now. I'm also sensing that the strength has dipped a bit, which is fine with me. It still has that medicinal quality which I'm starting not to enjoy. There's some bitterness creeping in, too, and I know it's not due to fast smoking because I've spent 40 minutes getting through 1.5 inches. What a weird little stick this is...it tastes totally different now, and I might actually put it out if I weren't reviewing it...maybe I hit a stem, but don't see one. Tastes like a wet ashtray, only more bitter. Yeesh.

And now that rough patch has cleared up and it's now got a fairly non-descript profile. Just starting the final third, which given the size is almost the end for me. Flavors are now muted and more or less pleasant again -- some pepper and herbal notes, none of that deep dark coal miner stuff anymore. Instead of ramping up, this one seems to have ramped down (with a slight detour through Bitterville).

I can't say that this cigar was in my wheelhouse, and I don't know that I would try another. Maybe after a steak dinner with a bourbon. In any case, I thank you for the wild ride, illini. What was it?

Huh, well I'll pat myself on the back for that one, then. Never had it before, but it did remind me of other Viajes. And I said bullet, but I guess I meant shotgun shell.

Thanks again, illini. This is a fun thread, and I'd definitely participate again in the future.

Finally got around to smoking my first cigar from Greg today.

Cigar was 6" with about a 52 rg. Meditum brown wrapper, triple cap, very firm feel to it. I clipped the cap and took in a deep breath of the cigar. Lots of nuts and earthy aroma. Upon lighting the cigar I was hit with cedar and some chocolate right away. Very smooth smoke. Noticed a slight crack in the wrapper a couple inches from the foot, but nothing to worry about. . . As I got into the cigar, it have a very white ash, with plenty of white smoke to give it a healthy body. About an inch in I got a nice woodsy flavor, swore I could taste hickory in the smoke. Cigar burned very evenly as I went through it. Needed only a slight touch up as I powered through the small crack. As I approached the end of the first 1/3, I began to taste some nuttiness, that transitioned into leather. Ash finally fell off in my lap at about 2 1/2 " in. Leather dominated the flavor with hints of pepper(small hints) and some floral notes in the nose. As I transitioned into the final 1/3 of the cigar, the woodsiness returned with hints of cedar. Would call it a medium full smoke, nothing over powering, but good flavor through out. Ash held 1 1/2 " before I tapped it off in the ash tray this time. With about 1" to got some hints of something different. If I didn't know better to do so, I'd say it tasted like fried onion rings. I've never tasted anything that specific in a cigar before. Excellent cigar with a lot of flavor and transitions. My WAG, is an Illusione MJ12. I say this as I thought it had a very illusione type profile to it, and that is the only one I see in the size range of this cigar.

Thanks Greg! I look forward to trying the next one!

The Domus Magnus is from the OR. The LFD is an Axe from 2008, so as per the rules, neither can be found here.
