Did you stock up?!!? I've got a 1.75 and a 750 with the big red 12 on the front still and 3 750s with the 12 on the back. Wish I bought more...

Saw the new non age stated version at Sam's club on Sunday. I hope heavenhill continues to pull good barrels for the EC small batch and doesn't come back to market in ayear with an EC12 for 50 bucks and jack the price on their barrel proof.

Honestly with the exception of Rumble(very unique whisky flavor I won't even try to describe,a little on the sweet side but delicious) and Brimstone(the only smoky whisky I have ever found any affection for)good for a change up but I wouldn't drink it with any regularity.

The rest of the line I have not been impressed with......especially at its price point.Their single malt was good, not extraordinary but good.BUT I can get a bottle of McCallan's 12 sherry oak for about 20-40 bones cheaper(the price for the Balcones Single Malt varies incredibly down here) .........and the McCallan's IMHO is far superior single malt.

probably impossible to find, but if you can get the rum they released a few years back, I'm pretty sure it would be in your wheelhouse.
Mikey sent a bottle dated 9/27/13 to me a while back and I nursed that baby for over a year. 58.5% abv

Anyone tried Monkey Shoulder? Saw it the other day for $35 and was curious if there was value in that or if it was one of those you get what you pay for scotches.

not a huge scotch person nor a professional noser/taster but here are my notes from my whisky advent calendar (only time i've ever recorded notes):

color: dark amber
Nose: coffee and a fake pineapple yellow laffy-taffy esque flavor
Taste: like scotch. and fake pineapple. not huge smoke or peat but its scotch the peat is there.
finish: medium length no extra

Additionally i rated everything as dont buy, i'd buy, and go buy now. This was an I'd buy.

Tried the Monkey Shoulder a few months ago, a great taste for the price, but I am a scotch noob, only tried about 6 diff single malts thus far, Monkey shoulder is a blended scotch, correct?

correct. 3 single malts IIRC.
I thought it was ok for a blend. I'd look for a good sale price though.
Worth having in the bar, for here and there or guests who think they know scotch and end up wasting a pour of something really good.

Thanks all sounds like this is decent for the price but nothing special so it is right up my alley. Now of course since I want it is all about getting the very best price I can Frank.

The Balcones Rum had a purple label, VERY unique.

Rumble has a maroon label.

You like the Rumble Jamie? Usually Ron's opinions work for me with booze.

Haven't had it to be honest, I've had nothing from Balcones.

I've been busy buying and trying new rums, cuz some Masshole got me hooked.

Rittenhouse 21 23 25
Vintage 21 23
Black Maple Hill 23
VanWinkle Family Reserve
Hirsch 25
Willet 24/94 or 24/110
Michters 10 from 2006-2011
Jefferson's Presidential 21 25
Thomas H Handy
Sazerac 18
Sarcasm

Just kidding I've never had most of those...

But regular old Rittenhouse rye BIB is pretty damn good for the like 23 bucks it costs. The Pikesville Rye released last year is good but a bit pricey.

If you can find it, Smooth Ambler Old Scout private barrel ryes kick ass. I haven't had the proofed down ones but their barrel proof releases rock and although 50+ are a bargain compared to willett (same whiskey from MGP).

Regular Sazerac is good for the $ and Dicke Rye is a steal.

Most of High West is rye or bourbon blended with Rye. Good stuff, they source out of Indiana I believe and they don't lie about distilling.
