Sounds like a trade may be brewing. I need a pipe first. I'm going to the P&P this week, maybe Larry can hook me up.

I'll tell you what everyone told me, just start with a cheap cob for the pipe, and some quality tobacco. . .

All I was askin Ron is what it would take to get my Dads pipes in working order. These things have to be at least 50 years old and I was thinking that I still have a can of Amphora tobacco he used that should still be good too.

wheel,

Which cob do you have?Regardless of cob slow down, puff gently, you're not trying to suck a golf ball thru a garden hose.

J/Kwhip Based on my limited experience it sounds like your pack is a little on the light side. I had the same problem with my first few bowls, I was so afraid of "over tamping" I didn't pack enough into the bowl.

So fellows those of you that buy in bulk (Ron) and cellar does pipe tobacco continue to improve with age as most cigars do to a point?

Only aro's will not improve from aging for the rest they get better like cigars.

From what I've learned, some personal observations some from other forums.......

Virginia's gain the most from aging and will bloom(sugars coming to the surface)just like well aged cigars.

Burley.......some say it improves but almost all seem to agree that it isn't significant enough to bother.

Latakia is said to lose its smoky quality..........Here I wouldn't really know,I like so few lat blends.

Perique is said to lose some of its peppery goodness..........which can be a good thing in some over periqued blends.

Aro's,again I don't smoke any true aro's ,are said to go stale or at least lose most of that strong topping smell which IMHO might be a good thing.

Not sure what blend though.

Take the filter out? Smoke 1 bowl with it in?

Greg, it's not expensive like cigars unless you go crazy on pipes and jar bulk like Ron.

Speaking of which, someone gave out your addy? Whadda ******.........by the way, I trust your tastes enough I ordered 8 ozs of PS Luxury Flake Twist. Again good call azzhat.

And SOMEONE was gonna start this thread.

I might be bringing you something too......
