Not the most well done poll in the world. But has some very telling numbers. Note this poll was done in 2004, well before all this BS.

Sorta shows that everyone's defense about it being "southern pride" is... misplaced.

Are you suggesting that a poll done over a decade ago, and I didn't participate in, accurately can determine my views on race?

I'm curious how a lot of the "southern pride" folk would feel about the hispanic community out here in california running around with "mexican pride" stickers on their cars...

We also have to remember that any poll in the south is pretty much useless since they likely didn't understand the quesiton. How can they be expected to know such things as what is Beethovens last name?

I think the southern states should have to celebrate General Sherman's birthday and fly his family crest over all official buildings. Maybe pledge allegiance to him and stuff every day.

The word "all" would be wrong. Vast majority would be more accurate. The others don't realize they use the same verbiage and symbolism as the white supremisist groups that until fairly recently were fringe rather than mainstream.

Come to think about it, there are Hispanics and blacks in most church services that I attend each week. For some reason they continue to return week after week. Must be the harsh treatment they are receiving.

I'll try to stay away from most of the silliness in this thread. However, I think this sentence is illuminating. The hatred sort of racism is not so much a problem, IMO. It's easy to spot; easy to denounce; easy to distance oneself from.

It's all the other subtleties of human emotion, sense, thinking, etc....that fall between hatred and true sense of equality. That's where there's work to be done.

If you watch any left wing channel (which is 90% of them) they try to tie the confederate flag in SC to the republicans or the right when in fact it was not. Most racism in the south was democrat driven. I don't give a flying F what letter is behind a racists it's wrong just be honest but sadly that doesn't seem possible any longer.

Um... America isn't being called to task. Pretty sure we won that war to make sure that the confederate flag didn't represent america at all. Dunno... maybe I fell asleep during the class where they went over Lee getting a ghost army together and a bunch of elephants with spikes and archers or something and taking over the north and making the confederate flag our nations symbol.
