Alright... I just spent some $$ getting my reels respooled or having the top-shot replaced, and I bought myself another 7' fishing rod. I needed it... because my 2 speed reel needed a rod that could handle a 100+ lb fish.

Anyway... Victor, if you decide to make the trip, I've got 3 rods that'll handle bidness.

What? I was just letting you know rod rental wouldn't be an issue... I got a rod (and reel) for you.

What?

You really should make this trip. Nothin' to be askeered of. You're bigger than me, likely stronger... I swear I will not even try to throw you overboard. Pinky swear. Angel

Oh... I didn't change the line on your rod and reel, Anthony. That's my lucky one... I didn't want to jinx it.

Fishing! I'm jonesing for it... got some 65lb, 8 strand braid... I'm gonna leave it on for this upcoming trip but I'm not thrilled with how much space it takes up on the reel... probably change out to 40 or 50...

Yup. 10 pack of them. 2 feathered 5/0 hooks, one snap swivel (bottom) one barrel. I believe the line is 60 lb test.

They work... I've been out fished by them before, but that was a long time ago...

In fact, 3 years back i was fishing purisima point on a charter... i was stubbornly using nothing but Berkley gulp stuff... catching plenty, but nothing big... the little tiny 16 year old asian girl standing next to me? Had a couple big ling cod, and several big reds, using rock cod rigs...

After about an hour of that, she got unintentionally condescending towards me... when I'd bring in a small rock cod she'd say something in broken English, like "thumbs up, you do good job" or "that one not too bad" and my favorite "maybe ling cod next time"...

Fish are always eating other fish. If fish could scream, the ocean would be loud as ****. You would not want to submerge your head, nothing but fish going "Ahhh, ****! I thought I looked like that rock!" - Mitch Hedberg

Edited because I'm slow. I hope you have a great "scouting trip" tomorrow, Joel.

Just a scouting mission... i promise to leave a few big ones for us to catch in May...

Do you have any good spots to fish that aren't in Mexico? I don't mind getting the passport but the thought of going back to Mexico gives me the heebie jeebies...

Someone on the 12 hour trip today caught an 18 lb and a 21 lb ling cod (although the 21 looked like it probably had a 5 lb rock cod in his belly)... good start to the season...

You're not on land. You'll be in "Mexican waters" and the passport is just in case the Mexican Navy decides to check our paperwork. I've only been checked one time, and it was on a charter boat, but I have seen their boats down there on a number of occasions.

We depart and return from the boat ramp at the Marine Corps base in San Diego Bay.

I'll pack my passport and change my return flight to Wednesday if logistics can be worked out.

At work... just verified I am working that Wednesday. We switch back to days on May 9 (I work that Wednesday) and every other Wednesday until we go back to nights, 4 months later. So I'll be off the 16th and work the 23rd. d'oh!

Brother and I donated a fair number of jigs to the ocean floor last time we went out... gonna fire up the toaster oven and get a few more made...

What I'd really like to do bait wise is get ahold of some frozen octopus but I'm having a tough time any...

I got an Asian market close by. Fresh squid, and I'd bet they have some whole octopus.

Well one of my big reds coughed up a whole octopus on the deck... all balled up, it was probably golf ball sized... anyway, threw that on my brothers teaser hook and he caught 5 of his fish off that one octopus... so i think we should track some down...
