Sat - 66/53

Sun - 65/54

- 5 mph winds from the southwest with gusts to 15 mph
- old farmers almanac calendar predicts poor fishing conditions for May 20, 2018
- blums almanac says suck it Robert B Thomas, May 20, 2018 is gonna be a phenomenal day for fishing and you know it, you're just trying to Bogart all the good fishing days by printing false information

Mon - 63/54

It was an unusually cold April up here and the ling cod counts seem to reflect that... the good news is that there have only been a handful of long range trips this season, so most the places we fish will have seen even less pressure this year than last...

Finishing up the last of the jig and teaser setups in the next few nights... Brad told me last time I went out that (in his opinion) if there are no ling cod around and you're fishing 300+ ft, jigs and swim baits don't produce like the rock cod rigs... personally, i like the challenge of fishing jigs and swim baits, but thought i should pass that info on...

There are only 5 spots booked at this point...

Opel
Macs
Delta
Abrignac
Drafter

Still holding out hope for Victor... drafter, your buddy still coming?

Fishing is like the weather... you can't really predict it, you can only make your best guess.

If it's half as good as last year, it'll still be fun. I bet we do well.

I gotta say, though... when I pay a little extra to do the Cape St Martin trip, and the count is 35 people... it kinda pissed me off that we were up to 40.

I pay a premium for a light load. Should be no more than 35 people.

This year, the light loads are on Wednesdays... 12 hour trip, 20 people, $155 each...

i doubt our boat will even fill up this time around... you never know, but it hasn't been too crowded this year at all...

Checking the fish counts, a few 20+ # lingcods were jackpot winners on the Endeavor...

didn't see any Ocean Whitefish among the catch....MACS will be disappointed, cuz he loves to "Kill Whitey" for his wife....Gonz

The crowded boat didn't bother me anywhere near as much as the one guy fishing a 5oz jig and swearing it was 12... I've never seen someone snag other people as much as he did... until Anthony donated the guys jig to the Pacific floor...

In truth, lots of guys have gotten their six-pack license, meaning they can guide up to 6 people on their private vessels... a lot of people have turned to these six pack trips to avoid the crowds on the charters... but they can't get to where we're going...

Booked.

Drafter... If you're flying into SFO I can possibly grab you on the way down. Obviously depending on time and axle limit on a BMW...

So between now and the time we fish, the long range spots will only be visited a maximum of 4 times...

Last time they went out, everyone easily got their rock cod and ling cod limits... so captain Brad went to work and brought up a 31 pounder... he says anyone who catches bigger gets a free trip...

Victor, very excited you'll be joining us... this is shaping up to be a great time...

with Victor and Drafter's Laguna Beach friend, our group will be seven guys. There are four beds in the three bedrooms (two queens and two twins) and the couch in the living room. We''ll need two air mattresses, unless we have volunteers to share a queen bed........................anybody?..........................hellooo.........

thought so...

No sense having Drafter lug his air mattress out here, especially if it's a princess...I can bring one, a queen size (mine can jump if I leave it plugged in long enough and if you learn to play with the air valve, it's.......I've said too much) )...if MACS brings his, we're set.

What time is check-out on Mon?

It's a good thing the smaller house got taken before i could book it...

I will sleep on the floor... An unfamiliar floor is more predictable for my back than an unfamiliar mattress...

Check in is at 4 on Saturday... checkout is at 11 on Monday... I'll get there at or before 4...

Total cost was $743.05...

And not to beat a dead horse, but just to remind everybody, the homeowner is being nice enough to let us smoke on site, but we have to make sure we keep the smoke out of the house, and she doesn't want us smoking on the balconies...

Al, I'll bring flour, salt, pepper, olive oil, eggs, and milk... anything else for fish prep?

I'll also bring tortillas, the salsa, tortilla chips, cabbage, lemons... what am i forgetting?

Anything over a three hour cruise and Minnows tend to fail.
