In the mean time the booze money I’m saving is being tucked away for a Daniel Defense DDM4V7

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the V7...…………..I have a local buddy that has one and loves it.I've not shot it but I intend to.

$1900 is a hell of a lot to pay for a no frills AR-15. In 2017 I built one very similar for about $800. If you’re inclined to build one, I can email you my spreadsheet for that particular build. Only takes a couple hours to assemble and requires very few tools. You’ll need a screwdriver or two to depress and hold some of the spring loaded detent pins. A rubber, leather or other soft faced hammer, torque wrench and a few punches. If you don’t have any of that, you the get appropriate quality tools for less than $150. You’ll have enough money left over to build a second one.

Thanks abrig. I’d love to see that spreadsheet for perhaps a future build. But this round I’m thinking Daniel defense. It’s $1400 not $1900 (unless I get the pro which is 1600 but has a geissle trigger and longer heavier barrel) on the street and from what I hear just works. I do t want to tinker on this one but a future Frankenstein gun might be fun.

But I’d like the spreadsheet, I may buy parts sporadically as I see them giving me something to do.

That DD rifle looks sweet.

I'm planning on building a few more this year. Have two m4 copies, a bare bones and a fully accessorized, but want a 9mm and a long barrel.

It’s 1449 at Whitaker 1669 for the pro. No taxes, free shipping and my ffl charges $15.

$1474 to my door. Have to be a sub $1300 gun to break even locally.

I don't know what you would be using it for but have you looked at their M4A1...…..perfect for up close and personal business with that 14" bbl.Field tested by the best going on 15 years now.I've shot it,I love it,if we weren't travelling out of the country this year I think I'd already have this one on lay-a-way.

If you want an 18" bbl I'd look at the DD5V4 in 308...…….this also on my wish list

Happy New Year...………..may it be a damn sight better than the last

I don’t have anything in 5.56 and think I should. You just talked me out of the pro. It’s 18. The v7 is 16. I’ll look at the shorter variant too, but I have my modified scorpion that is basically an sbar other than it uses a “brace” so no stamp needed.

Happy New Years to you as well. It’s what you make of it. Last year wasn’t so bad :).

I think I’m headed back to AK fishing with my dad, and when I’m truly back healthy I think we are going to explore somewhere in Northern Europe and into parts of Russia.

My 9mm's are "pistols" as well. I flat out love them. I've quit buying expensive AR's though. There are enough quality parts out there and are so easy to build I do my own. Much more cost effective and just as reliable. I've never had one of mine go south.

Having a mill and a stack of 80% lowers in various configurations never hurts either. BigGrin

The first carbine I built I did a worst case test with. Minimal maintenance or cleaning and it just kept running. Guys that have lots of issues usually find it's the magazines. Guys buy 1500 rifles and then buy cheap surplus mags. "Why won't this thing feed?"

I'm going to be purchasing a Beretta M9 soon. I have 3 handguns already, but what the hell... there is no other handgun with which I am more proficient than that one. I have fired thousands of rounds through them, so it kinda makes sense to have one.

That's my rationale, anyway... BigGrin

It’s all about which gun you more proficient shooting. For every day I have an assortment of Glocks. They come with a few different grip sizes so I get a good fit and I like the way I’m able to take up slack easier than some other brands.

I’d stay away from .380 because the ammo is 1 1/2 - 2x more expensive than 9mm.

.40 S&W is a nice round, but follow shots tend to be a bit slower due to recoil velocity.

I prefer 9mm because it stay on target better.

YMMV

I can’t imagine finding a hand gun that is more natural for me to shoot than my cz 75. It aims itself the moment it’s in my hands. I honestly think I could shoot it ok blindfolded.

I’m still leaning 5.56. Just glad I talked myself out of a KAC. Found a good price locally and almost did it. It’s gone now. A shop employee bought it.

The CZ looks like a cross between a M9 and a 1911 to me. I like the look of it.

It's hard for me to fathom shooting any gun better than the one I have practiced with the most. It just makes sense to me to have one.

Run what you brung is the right answer. That's a 1911 in my case. Millions of rounds over the years. Next up is the Remington 870. M-14's, then the M-16 and finally the Beretta.

But I love and carry Hi-Powers as well. I shoot CZ's well also. I freaking hate glocks. Odd grip angle.

A 1911 I can pick up and shoot center mass no worries. The Hi-Power as well. JWB designed it as well. Same grip angle. Same manual of arms, crappy little safety on the Hi-Power though. Not a fan of the magazine disconnect either but it is what it is.

I always tell folks, get what you shoot the best, and that you enjoy shooting. If you don't enjoy shooting it, you won't practice with it and it's useless.

I've seen more of those ultra-lightweight Smith and Wesson titanium snub noses for sale cheap with only a few rounds through them. They are simply not pleasant to shoot. No, they're brutal to shoot with carry loads. I don't even like those little suckers. Brick wall

CZ fits nicely, shoots nicely.

One strange one that felt like it was made for me was a Daewoo .40 s&w I looked at years ago.....

Glocks are great, lots of support with aftermarket options. Although I can’t completely disassemble, reassemble and load blindfolded like I can my H&K

True but these lightweights weren't meant to be shot a lot, they were meant to be carried a lot.I have a 642 that's had exactly 5 rounds thru it,I verified it shot center mass at 12 feet with +P ammo about 15 years ago. It's been loaded with that same ammo since but not fired.I like it because it requires no holster...…..I usually carry it in my jacket pocket or right rear hip pocket. It gives you 5 quick rounds for up close and personal business.I have seen a few of these with swollen cylinders but they saw heavy range use...…….they will just not stand up to it.But used as intended one will last multiple lifetimes.

In that context, absolutely. But you're the functional target market and can already shoot. Most of those get sold to some gal in Gander mountain that picks it up and thinks "Oh, that's super light, I like that!" and then goes out to learn how to shoot it. Then it's their only gun. d'oh!

I've tossed at least a dozen of those off the firing line at NRA basic pistol classes we've taught. Give them a loaner .22lr, get them dialed in and let them go from there.

I had a 350 lb dude show up with a Kimber Ultra Carry in .45acp. Gun disappeared in that dudes mitts. I was fondling the thing as it was the first one I'd actually got to handle. His first shot was center mass, I was impressed as hell. Until his next shot and all the rest went in the mud. That thing bit the crap out of him. Flinch isn't the right word. LOL.

We put that back in it's case, gave him a Ruger MKI and he did fine after. We told him to take that back to gander mountain, get his money back and get a more user friendly gun.

Yea those airweights aren't range weapons and most have no idea what they're getting into when they purchase one.

I been looking hard at the Ultra Carry ii in 9mm...…...I've not shot one but I can't imagine it being uncontrollable in 9

I shoot my LCR often, and shoot it well. But I tend to the side of recoil junkie having also owned a Smith 460 and Ruger 480. Someday I'll buy a Smith 500, but I'm waiting for one to come to me.

The ultra carry ii is a very nice shooting carry gun. Had one for a bit.

Just not into the arm rippers...…..45 Long Colt in a Ruger Blackhawk does all I need it to do.

Y’all can hate on me all you want. I do.

No seals blown. Too tired.

Ugh. Just found the ddm4 v7 in the pro configuration but with a 16” barrel rather than 18. In addition to the geisle sg3d trigger it has the gen 2 muzzle climb mitigater rather than the a2 birdcage. They also put on a radian raptor charging handle and milslec+ cerakote.

This is my perfect balance between the pro and the regular v7 version with the charging handle and cerakote as frosting.

I wanted the trigger in the pro but didn’t want the 18” barrel (which to me makes no sense with this trigger. )

And it’s on sale cheaper than the pro and much cheaper than you could upgrade yourself.

The problem is I wanted to wait a couple months until I buy.
