my mil was pure evil but the kids weren't victims, they didn't know.
I made sure they got time with her and "Papa".

Years later, in laws are long gone and the grown kids have positive memories.
I didn't allow them to be hostages, kept them out of the fray.

It was good that you were able to save them from the reality.
But, at some point, they deserve to know the reality...

Yep and yep.
Shield for most of their childhood. Give them some of the reality and leave it to them to form their own opinions.

93% humidity thickens the 73 degrees currently.

Happy Monday.

Obie could always strip down to sporting only a banana hammock, and start checking for unlocked doors at the MIL’s house.

The whole goose gander thing.

So.... can't we just get Opel's MIL some coronavirus? Seems that would solve the problem. She'd either be dead or no longer able to infect anyone....

Made 2 beers this weekend....
A sweeter, heavy stout for winter... and a "Scottish Wee Heavy" with extra weight added (dry extract). They should come out at 7% and 10% respectively.... hopefully.

Up at 4:20 and coffeed up. Really pleasant 61 with low RH that feels even cooler. Wife and I did a 6.4 mile hike in the mountains and now on the front porch with a PLPC.

Fun fact: Every time you breath, you exhale some 25 sextillion molecules of oxygen - so many that with a days breathing you will in all likelihood inhale at least one molecule from the breaths of every person who has ever lived.

This means that you guys have been blowing and sucking Trump quite regularly.

Greatly appreciate the support from you guys... it's been a stressful couple of days... i honestly expected most the answers in here to be "mils are awful, we've all got one, just apologize and get it over with"....

the in laws finally text my wife back after a couple days of silent treatment and numerous texts by my wife... the bulk of their statement was that words hurt and I hurt them with my words...

they also said their son who was at their housewhen I caught them not quarantining just showed up unannounced, but that "we would never turn our son away"... he lives 20 minutes away and they see him all the time... it's not like he's an out of town visitor they only see once a year...

So basically, exactly what I said from the beginning, they lied... lied about their willingness to quarantine and lied about the fact that they were quarantined... now they're caught in the lie and they're playing victim in hopes of drawing attention away from the lie they've been caught in...

My son is 7, daughter turns 6 on the 21st of this month... they love their grandparents but they have also come to realize - without any input from us on the matter - that my mother in law is highly irresponsible and her brand of love - do whatever you want - isn't actual love...

We don't ever talk about them in front of the kids... they know we love them and they witness us actively demonstrating that love on a regular basis...

Unfortunately, we are at an impasse... there will be no apology on my part and they aren't interested in talking to us without one... my kids will be better off not seeing them anymore...

Ultimately, this is my fault... i did not realize how toxic they were and I have been pushing my wife to be closer to them for many years - because of the kids - believing that any contact with family is better than none... i believed wrong...

My parents live around the corner and quarantine completely - without being asked - because they want to see their grandkids... they love our kids and our kids love them... and my parents love my wife like she's their own daughter... relationships like these will be what we are concentrating on for now...

Sorry to "drama up" the 500... this weighs heavily on me but I think I'm finally seeing my in laws for what they are and my wife is quite happy with that... I've always tried to see the good in people no matter how horrible they are (look how well I treat Victor!) but I'm starting to think that's a bit of a character flaw on my part (except in the case of Victor!)...

I had an epiphany last night that I wish I would've had in third grade... when you say "whore bull" in a sentence it is virtually indistinguishable from the word "horrible"... especially when said with a southern accent... there's not much I can do with it now but 12 year old me would've been tickled pink to have had that information...

HEHE, been saying that for years, since that's how I talk. So nothing new for me, LMAO!

Opel, you're doing the right thing, IMHO. "Stick to your guns", children are wiser than we think, they will eventually understand and if you've been going out of the way to create some sort of better relationship with your wife and her parents and they don't choose to try to do better, there's nothing you can say and even an apology would just be like giving candy to a bratty kid to satisfy the little schitt!!!

Don't do it!

G'Day all, Don't be BAD!

And, dammit, my honesty when I checked in for tomorrow's Dr appointment just forced me to have to run to then local clinic to get a COVID "fast test", although they might still try and put me off, even if it's negative until the can get the PDR lab results, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm fairly sure that my slightly sore throat is from the pollen, long weekend and getting just a tad dehydrated.

Angry storm ripped through today. I slept through it. Looks like I got a lot of big branches down but can't see any whole trees downed from the window.

Back to work. Last one.

Was supposed to go in on Wed morning for annual competency review but that got cancelled. =d>

Drove through that storm to get home. Visibility crap. Hail hitting the car. And a downed tree making me backtrack and detour. Clearly God is telling me not to leave the house

I bet they were only flat on the bottoms but the tops were OK right?

Now for something completely different. I'm going to let y'all in on a little secret plan. I've listed my cigars as assets on my insurance policy. After I smoke a bunch of them I'm going to file a claim that they were lost due to fire and collect all the money I've spent on them.

WINNING!

Careful. Urban legend says you'll collect but then be charged with several counts of arson.

Morning, peoples. Made it through the storm yesterday with power. Then about 3hrs later heard a transformer pop and have been dark since.

Got a generator?

A few years back NIPSCO built a new substation by me, so there's one both 1 mile east and west of me. Ive never been without power very long since then.

Nope. Were looking into it once because when we first moved to this house we used to lose power if the sun was too bright. Then NIPSCO upgraded some lines in the area and we had no issues for longer than a couple hours. Skip ahead to the last couple months and we've now had 2 12+hr outages. May need to renew my efforts

Whole house NG gen with auto transfer switch is expensive. I got quotes when we used to lose power. $3500-5k. Low end no central air, high end i could probably still weld with the air running.

5kw gensets are cheap (and loud) i ran my house on one for 3 months after I bought it. Was rewiring the whole thing, didn't want line service till I was done.

If only running a fridge, sump pump, and other things that can be extension corded, a Harbor Freight Predator 2000 inverter generator is about $500 and damn near silent. Runs a window unit AC too. Plus clean power if you want to plug in your TV n stuff, cant run em safely on a wound coil genset.

Good morning, everyone.

Hope you guys get your power back soon. I can appreciate your situation as that is what happens here when we get a tropical storm or hurricane. Worst ever was 41/2 days...

Doing paperwork to get quote for home re-fi. Gonna save a lot with the current rates.

Mu inlaws didn't talk to me for 5 years. Made my life a helluva lot easier as I was not invited to things like Christmas, etc. Whatever....lol. It got hard on the wife so I apologized for nothing just because I didn't really care one way or another. Now all is well and I gladly do things for them, visit them with the wife, do chores and shop for them etc. Life is too short to be caught up in nonsense when something doesn't really matter to you and it hurts someone you love. Apologizing for whatever slight they felt I had given them didn't hurt me and made the wife happy. Cool.......

My rate's already really stinkin low, and I'm on a 10 year. I'm halfway considering taking out a 30 year on the remaining 40k and paying basically nothing if I want, or just send in regular payment. Would free up a lot of cash per month, and with most of the house paid off, got plenty equity.

Or just keep on for the last 3 years of the loan and be done. Not sure which is the better move.

Haven't had a power outage in years but seeing as it gets a little warm here in the summer it would be hard to go days without it.

We just set a new record for 110+ days in a year. The old record was 33 days. Now on 35th day and the forecast is 111-114 for the next week. Anxious

Can't remember how we made it through my childhood years with only a swamp cooler in one window but Phoenix was much more desert and less heat island back then. Temps got hot but the nights cooled as much as 40 degrees. Thank god for AC.

The most logical is move to a lower rate and longer period, and make your money work for a better return. However, emotionally, it feels better having it free and clear. I sleep at night knowing I own it.

You need to watch a few Dave Ramsey / Chris Hogan videos. Pay it off and be done. Debt is not your friend. If you're on the last few years, most of it is going towards principal. If you refinance, that'll flip and you'll be paying more interest. F--k no, don't refi.
