You didn't drink enough. I had a cool cloudy day with some sprinkles. I pissed enough for both of us.

Feeling kinda crappy at the moment... wondering if a puppy dog made it home.

Wife and I went for our walk this morning, around the neighborhood. Walked through the park by the house and as we were leaving the neighborhood a white german shepherd was wandering around, sniffing stuff, as dogs do. He had a collar on... no tags.

I looked around and saw nobody. Called out... no answer. Dog came running over to me. Very friendly, seemed to be about a year old. Followed us for almost half our walk (4 miles). Brought a water bottle with me and gave that dog about 3/4's of it, little by little. He'd run around and sniff stuff and then run back to me. I'd give him more water... he'd do it again. I'm really hoping he made it back home. After about 2 miles he just ran off.

Some lady was walking a dog and was like... "Your dog needs to be leashed". I responded... well, if it was my dog he would be leashed, but it isn't. I don't know whose it is but he's following us...

They were starting distance learning two weeks ago. But the Friday beforehand the school board voted to do in person and that delayed start by 2 weeks.

I suspect it will be short lived.

Took truck to the coin-op car wash and gave it a good scrubbing. I'm good for another month or two now. Too rusty to care much about keeping it clean.

Weed whacked the ditch. Should've done it two weeks ago, was not easy. Never is, but extra tall and thick made it harder.

Took a shower to cool off. Now I don't know what I wanna do. Dont really want to get dirty again.

I started my kids on Zoomba online classes. It's a great workout, but not much actual education.

This is what the schools are doing, right?

Once you start putting teachers out for a 2 week quarantine or worse, who's the sub? And when the sub gets pulled out then what? Already have had classes years past where there was no substitute teacher and the kids had a parent volunteer basically just reading books, had an extra gym period, etc. No real education. Granted that's 1st grade for us, but what about the rest of the school...

The school board has really doubled down, theyve said they will not close down the schools unless directed by the board of health or education or something. Basically only will stop if it comes from the state. But if there's no teachers whats the plan.

My idiot sisters and their husbands put their kids in private schools who initially said no mask requirements (and they did it for that reason) now are talking about unenrolling the kids to homeschooling so they dont have to mask up. Not for fear of infection, because covid is fake, but because they dont want the kids wearing masks. Theyre the people who get kicked out of Costco and cuss out the cashiers at Walmart. My family is a bunch of stupid inconsiderate jerks

Crab legs were on sale, $7/lb. I bought 3.5lbs

I've eaten crab legs once, enjoyed them. Figured this could be my afternoon project. Grill some crab n make crab cakes. Too late to be dinner i think. Ive made salmon cakes, but found it best to rest the cakes in the fridge a few hours they stick together better.

I think they're cooked then frozen. There isn't info on the bag, but looking online that seems to be the way they're done. So not long on the grill once they've thawed.

My wife is a middle school teacher in one of the worst areas in the state, with the zip code the school is in having the most cases per capita. The school department is offering a "Virtual Academy", however the requirements for students is that they MUST agree to stay in the virtual academy for the entire semester, and their seat back in the school they are in is not guaranteed to be available when they return to in-person learning. The other issue is that any teachers with "pre-existing health conditions" (which my wife has) that might make them more susceptible to COVD-19 have to provide a doctor's note indicating what their medical issue is, which I think "may" be a violation of privacy. I think, as long as a doctor certifies a person has a "pre-existing health condition", there should be no need to divulge that person's specific medical issues.

The other issue is that there is no information for teachers from the school department or the teachers' union, even after the question has been asked MANY times, as to what this means for the teacher. Is their spot at the school also not guaranteed to be available when the schools are safe and the teacher can return to in-person learning? It's also been made known that there are only so many teaching positions available depending on the amount of students that sign up for the virtual academy. What does this mean for the teachers with health conditions that might not have a spot in the virtual academy made available to them? Are they expected to go in for in-person learning and risk their lives? There are so many questions that remain to be answered, and not much time left before the opening of schools (Rhode Island decided to push back the opening of schools until September 14th).

I'm afraid for my wife to go back to in-person learning. She didn't receive the form to apply for in-person learning because she is out on OJI and Workers' Comp after being assaulted by a student late last year. She is also suffering from severe PTSD, for which she is seeing a specialist. If she HAS to go back to in-person learning, and she gets sick because of a student, and God forbid dies from it because of her health condition that makes her drastically more susceptible to catching COVID-19, I'm going to be suing the crap out of the school department for negligence and unnecessary death.

Back to the crab legs. Theyre thawed and the WSM is up to temp. Not using much wood, maybe a dozen little chips of alder wood in there.

Since they're precooked and a delicate mild meat im just doing 30 minutes or so at 220ish.

Crab took forever to strip from the shells. Granted I dont have the tools, I used a pair of suturing scissors to open the parts too soft to crack and used side cutters on the really tough shell on the claws.

Smokiness is mild, can tell they were on the grill but its mostly sweet crab flavor. Ive overpowered shrimp and fish before, was worried about this dish especially considering the cost.

Dug up an onion and picked a pepper from the garden and diced em. 2 cups of panko bread crumbs, 2 eggs, half cup of mayo, a little creole seasoning, some "seafood seasoning" from grocery store, splashed it all with lemon juice, couple splashes of Crystal hot sauce, and mixed it up. Went light on seasoning to try to enjoy the crab more than the cake. Ive made em with salmon and spice it up, only used about 1/4 what I'd use for that.

Rolled into palm sized balls in a casserole dish and stuck it in the fridge. Gonna try to eat em for dinner tonight even though I'm pushing the time.

Yum!

Love crab!

Don't mind the "work" needed to get to the meat. Dungeness and Samoan are my favorites (...although it's been decades since I ate a Samoan crab...).

And tools? You don't need no stinkin' tools! Just use what youse gots. Whatever works, works.

and my absolute fave crab dish is the Cantonese style "Ginger Scallion Fresh Dungeness Crab" my daughter and I would order two to go from a Chinese seafood restaurant nearby (sadly closed) and spend two hours together picking every morsel out of the shells...

Damn! Was just talking about that to Patti the other night! We had ordered Steamed Gau Gee from a local chop suey and they prepared it with slivers of ginger and green onion so commented how it was just like the ginger onion crab at another (...also sadly closed...) Chinese seafood restaurant.

Fo' sure gotta wear the plastic bib if you eat that stuff at the restaurant.

Black eyed peas, red and green pepper, onion, garlic, chicken stock, bay leaf, cajun seasoning, worchestershire, tobasco, kielbasa.

Cooked up sweet and spicy, three bowls in it's a hit.

Rather foggy early this morning. Just about finished cleaning up the back yard yesterday. Today it's front yard day. The big cracked branch has not come down on it's own and the big old tree is being held up by nearby maples. One of my neighbors offered to cut it down, but I turned that down - too many chances of splinters and flying wood. Chain saw will be busy and a fire in the back yard may take care of the smaller stuff.

104 hours worked in 7 days. 6 of which were 16 hour shifts. Back to normal schedule now. Feels good to be back to normal. That was a hell of a storm that ripped through the area last Monday. We had 9 confirmed tornadoes. Sirens never went off by me and we had a tornado come through. No big damage to my property minus the patio tent. We lost power for 4 days, some lost power for 6.

I actually had Monday (yesterday) as a vacation day,. I had last Friday as a vacation day, but they cancelled all vacation Thursday and Friday company wide to help get power back on. I could of gone in Monday and would of made an extra "half pay" for coming off shift without enough rest time/notice but I figured I would just stay off and sleep l. I was on 8p-noon shift for my storm with. All I know is Uncle Sam is gonna bend me over twice next paycheck.

I did 7 days with this one. Not too bad. The most I did was 22 days but those were all 12-14 hour days.
