Still cleaning up from the hurricane got a part of the back lawn mowed but still a lot of branches to go before I can finish. Once that's done I can get out the chain saw and start on the front. Been hot and humid and the sweat is pouring off of me all day.

DED - I think "gash" may have been a bad word choice.

Drove around to look at trucks. Had three on the list I wanted to see.

First one was gone when I got there. Had something similar, but black (I absolutely do not want black) I entertained the idea briefly but the airdam was missing and there were rust lines where the plow mounts used to be.

Second one I couldn't find on the lot, so I pulled up the online listing on my phone so I could ask about it. But I clicked the autocheck or carfax link and saw that it was registered for the first 3 years as a commercial vehicle in Ontario and has been wholesaled 3x in the last year.

Third one I went to look at, I set up an appointment on the phone cause it's 45 minutes away. It was out on a test drive when I arrived at the dealership. I stuck around for a bit, but they went into sales office when it came back. Told the guy to call me if it doesn't sell.

I'm just gonna have to save up a good chunk of change and order a new truck. I don't see me finding the right one on the used market. Everything I've found is compromising what I want, and either is gone by the time I get there or it's got deal breakers like plow mounts or rental/commercial use history. Been a couple that seem alright, but at small used car lots that bought em in on wholesale and have no service dept etc. If I'm spending 30k I want to be able to go back to the place I bought it if it has issues hopefully they stand behind it. I'll keep looking though.

Just get a 2000s Dodge 2500 diesel with 200000-250000 miles for under 15k and pay your house off. When the house is paid off, look for a 'better' truck. My 2 cents for the day.

Just dug up all 14 lawn sprinklers... FFS, I started at 6:30AM and it was ballz-hot already, had to stop at 10:30 when it topped 100. also, "digging" in Arizona means using a large pick to dislodge the rock and clay one inch at a time... I am beat.

I capped them all off at the PVC risers and measured and marked them. I need to get a guy in to level the lawn area to get rid of the damn slope so I can put a swing set in and make the wife and kids happy.

I can't risk another old truck. I tow cross country and local pretty much from March to November. Believe me I've considered that option. Coworker just bought a mint 94 cummins cab n a half for $4k. But I can't bring myself to trust something that old. Drivetrain may hold out just fine but the rest of the systems are pretty much end of life cycle.

AAA only covers 200 miles of towing and when im doing Gridlife events, the trailer has to make it there in time, and has to make it home in a week's time.

I need something reliable. With the covid chit, I'm not doing much this year. I think my year is actually over. Might work an event in October but won't be towing.

If i was just staying local, and people weren't depending on me and my truck, id care a lot less. I need a crew cab. Kid's getting too big for cab n a half. I need 4wd - been stuck more times than I can count. No plow trucks, no rental trucks, no commercial use trucks (i know how i treated my work trucks, and same with my coworkers). I need 3/4 ton or 1 ton chassis. next camper will probably be a 5th wheel toy hauler. I could survive on a half ton till then, but would rather get the truck i need rather than buy a fill-in to do this all over again in a year or two.

Ideally I want to find the retiree who lives in a camper in Florida every winter's truck. Something that was used, maintained, but not beat. I've found a couple of them, but they sell fast.

Edit: new trucks aren't guaranteed issue free, but having a warranty thats good nationwide means i can be towed anywhere, get a loaner, finish my trip, and get my truck repaired for the drive home. I know a few people who have bought new and got an absolute basketcase of a truck, but thats rare. Rarer than a used truck crapping out.

Start leveraging your contacts within the racing community. More people looking for you. Get in cozy with a few dealers and salesmen. They will find you something. Just more thoughts. Last car I bought was sight unseen. Had the dealer deliver from 4 hours away. Wrote a check and was done. The price was low enough that I knew if I had to fix things like the rear suspension and get A/C working, I could still be fine with the price. It sucks though when you know what you want and can't seem to find it quick enough.

I've been working that side too, with buddies in wholesale. They say there's an extreme shortage of used trucks right now, especially the HD trucks. I got a purchase offer from a local dealer for $6k on my truck. KBB is $4k in good shape.

I've got 3 guys in wholesale looking for me. Got a video call yesterday but the truck had plow mounts AND was from Canada. 2017 Ram 2500 with the 6.4, crew cab long bed, 25k miles, longhorn trim everything i want and more but had plow mounts which are usually deal breakers but this was privately owned. I told him if he gets it home under 30 I'd consider. Sold at auction for 32. Probably on a lot for 38 now.

Loren Healy with the Ford Funhaver tour jumped his stadium super truck over the top of Falken team's drift cars live on track at Gridlife. And i missed it because wife said I had to stay home for kids birthday parties. It's not even my own kid's birthdays. Kinda... One family party has him and me included, but his birthday's at the end of the month. Mine's the 22nd, his the 27th. 27th is also 10 years married with my wife, 16 years since our first real date 8/24 which is also the date of my motorcycle wreck that fuxxed up my head. But I'd be home by the 17th if I'd gone..

I wish I was doing racecar things with my friends. Sitting in the basement watching the live feed instead... Bunch of buddies got ride alongs in the SST on Pikes Peak's dirt track.

Granted if I'd gone I'd have an after hours emergency plumber bill to pay for yesterday's chit. But it would be worth it. Already cost me $50 to rent and 2 hours of my time plus travels, a $250 bill wouldn't be unreasonable while I'm out playing racecars with my friends.

Maybe for you. I just got a PM from a n00b who didn't need help with his order but, wanted me to recommend a Gurkha. This has gone TO FAR! Begging me for help with an order is one thing. Recommending Gurkha's is on another level of evil.

P.S. Good morning! It's rainy but, it's really cool and breezy out.

Edit: The Pm was from a Mr Walton and he wanted me to recommend a Gurkha that was on par with the Gurkha Sherpa Orange... what ever the he11 that is. Yuck. Feel free to PM him suggestions. First form letter where I felt intervention was needed. Although, I don't think "Gurkha's Suck" was the answer he was looking for.

Gonna watch Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” this morning.

Wife is gonna say “How many times you gonna watch this?”

My reply will be, “You can never watch a classic enough.”

Morning gents. Poached eggs and bacon for breakfast this morning.

Fire has increased to approx 20,000 acres but appears to be moving north away from us. For the most part we have clear skies and sun this morning.

It's 90 minutes door to door and 75% is on speed control so not much of a problem usually. Today they were working on a section of the 101 freeway so had to detour which added 10 minutes.

Carl, glad to hear you folks are safe for now but not happy to hear more beautiful country is still burning.
