Thought about it but wood's still a bit cheaper. Plus I did the other in wood a couple years back and I'd rather keep them the same

High of 86F, which means it will be cloudy all day. Could rain up to two or three times.

New TV gets delivered today!

Trying to figure out when in my schedule I will get to the pool today for more laps. Also waiting on the swim gear I am getting for fathers' day!

Mines only 10 years old, pressure treated pine. I stained/sealed it at the end of summer first year, pressure washed and did again at the end of year 2, and again at year 5 and 7. But the wood has warped in places, worn unevenly, and has grooves on the grain. Plus the grill drippings are a permanent part of it now.

When I get ambitious enough to redeck it, I'm going to go composite. I don't know if it'll be better or not but seems to me it should be better than what I did first. I think if I'd done cedar I'd be happier with the results. PT pine doesn't take on sealants/colors well so it was always uneven. But I got it when Schererville Menards was moving to their new building and they put everything they didn't move on clearance. Built my 12x24 deck for under $2k all in. They moved the cedar and composite.

Got in a 5 miler before 6:15 to beat the 115 heat. Pool maintenance done.

Had to have the '65 Vette picked up by AAA since a rear break caliber was dragging on my Sunday cruise. Only went about 3-4 miles before I smelled brakes and by the time I got it back home it was smoking hot. Waiting for the estimate now from Vintage Iron on repairs.

LA LA LA, I'M NOT LISTENING!!!!

Hoping for some longevity. We don't get s lot of direct sin on that side. I believe that's why the cedar is rotting. It rarely gets a chance to fully dry. Plus we do a solid color coating in an effort to ward off the carpenter bees

Pool pump started sucking air. Found the problem. Crack in the male thread PVC fitting at the inlet to the pump.
Took it all apart to unscrew it and it broke. Threads in the pump basket.
Can't get the remainder out.
Had to order a new pump basket $200
3 day wait.
The pool is screwed!
Running the Polaris constantly and shocking the crap out of it while I skim it 3 x a day.
These Daffy duck's are gonna get shot!

Yeah.
Took it out of the box and it's still big, but probably not too big. Going to set it up tonight!

What the what? In mammoth??? That's rough fishing... was there a big mosquito hatch or lots of anglers around?

Crowley, on a pontoon with the entire group, plenty of boats all over the lake...we tried a few of our usual hotspots...

shore fishing at Lake Mary and Gull Lake...lotsa people fishing, not many catching...

the area re-opened about a week before, so there was a lotta pressure...who knows whether any of the lakes were planted recently...we were thinking there'd be plenty of holdover pre-pandemic fish...

used inflated crawlers, salmon eggs, rat-tails, power bait, gold Kastmasters and bronze Thomas Bouyants...

even my son, a die-hard fisherman, was discouraged and defeated by the skunks we caught...

Crowley has actually skunked me once before as well.... not the end of the world, but discouraging nonetheless... sounds like you pulled out all the stops (assuming you forgot to mention you tried an in line spinner like a panther Martin)...

My little corner of the Sierras is also overrun with people since the pandemic started... nice to see lots of people fish, not so nice that they're all on my lakes....

All week Gavin has cooking school in the evenings and at the end the kids cook dinner for us at the school. 2.5 hours a night, I waited in the parking lot and was able to relax with a nice long cigar and watch some videos on my phone. Tonight they made some amazing chicken breasts, cubed potatoes, green beans and chocolate chip cookies. Got to bring home some food too. We all are stuffed and ready for bed. Have a great night!

It's 9PM, 105 degrees outside, and I am sitting on the patio smoking a cigar and doing some "rush work" I need to get done.

105 degrees AT NIGHT... Sigh.

Happy Tuesday fellas.

I got someone to agree to come in a half hour early for me so I can beat traffic, get home early enough to grab a quick nap and then head up to get my truck home.

Wife's mad about me canceling the camping trip so she's staying in Michigan for another day or two and I'm coming back home with the boy.

We call that June. Supposed to be 117 today (and every day this week) and I just finished a round of golf. Really pretty nice on the course in the morning but it did get to 101 by the time we finished.

We always used to throw the bonito back that we hooked while surf fishing in Mexico. Fun to catch and we would often get into a big school and have multiple hook-ups going but most didn't like the taste. You ever get into any pompano on your trips? IIRC that was a tasty fish.

Busy day. Drove niece to day camp, swam, picked up Mom from the airport and hung out with her for a while. On the way home, I stopped at Best Buy to check out their TV sound bars and such.

Well, I haven't set up the new tv yet so I don't even know if I will NEED one, but there are several at Best Buy that were $150 or less for a sound bar and wireless sub-woofer. Set-ups (more speakers) and prices vary widely. The TV is in a room that is 350- 400 square feet with a 14 ft. ceiling so I am concerned about sound quality from all viewing spots. Gotta do some research.

Got an amazing surprise today when I went to pick up my truck. Bill was $100. The deductible for warranty.

Service manager appealed and submitted the tickets from the other dealership visits when I brought it in for coolant smell and leak and all they did was top it off and pressure test. They decided to cover it.

Maybe mount the sound bar above the TV with a little down angle, to chill the echo.

TV speakers are notoriously tinny sounding...

about 6 years ago, bought a sound bar for a 55" Panasonic plasma in a similar sized room, albeit only an 8 foot ceiling...at the time, the Yamaha sound bars got great reviews...got a Yamaha YSP-1400 for about $220 at Costco...it produced enough bass with its two built-in subs that I didn't need a separate sub woofer...it was plenty of simulated "surround sound" for a room that size...

since we've moved, the sound bar is installed on the TV in the master bedroom, which is nearly twice as large and has a 12 foot ceiling on one side...not sure if it would hold up in that room, but I rarely watch anything other than news and sports on the set, and it is more than adequate for that...

Great news, Danm... glad it worked out.

DED - Bonito taste great if you bleed them properly, which we do. We fill a 5 gallon bucket with sea water, cut their gills and drop them in head first. They bleed out into the water. If you don't bleed them and remove the blood line during cleaning, yeah... very "fishy" taste which some do not like.

Sashimi after proper bleeding/fillet? They're very much like tuna.
