- Phone interview earlier this week for manf engineering job (big company that that makes office furniture stuff), but haven't heard back yet so it's probably a go.
- Phone interview this Friday for process engineer/CAD SolidWorks stuff for a company that designs and makes pumps, tanks, cooling towers. They are also interested in me wearing another hat as local IT support (my recent degree). Haven't done any SolidWorks stuff in like 6 yrs so kinda rusty on that end. I know one of the CAD design engineers there so I have an insider track that should help. Adding more 3D CAD experience to the resume can only help for any future employment.
- Another video interview next week with a company that is mostly a contract position for IT support with the the local school district and such. Not really sure on this one... I'm a little cautious. It's a small start up IT consulting and contract company. Like 30 people but they have contracts with the local schools and municipalities for IT support (thanks to the COVID lock downs with remote classes and companies that want to do some work from home remote stuff).
- Have a few more that want to do phone interviews but the location of the businesses are not what I want (hour commute on a good day). I'll entertain the idea since it doesn't hurt to practice on doing interviews but it likely will be a non starter on my end.
Can't predict the future, just roll with it. So far, I don't regret putting my professional career aside working at Wally World for a couple of years during the lock down and going back to school to get another bachelors degree. Walmart paid for it 100% so it was kinda hard to pass up that opportunity.
End result... it appears that I've made myself more marketable and opened up some doors that were not available to me before. Goal is to stay local and not have to drive spending 10% of my daily life sitting in commuter traffic. I've done that for too long and I'm not getting any younger.
I wish nothing but the best for you. YOU earned it. Remember to savor the flavor as you grow into your IT roles. Yes, if you stick with it you will have many. This is how I've made a very successful life and I still enjoy it today as much as I did when I started.
