Swam at like 8:30.
Bathroom remodel could be done today. Then painter and new blinds are the last touches, which will be completed this week or beginning of next week. Silicone applied to glass will take 48 hours to cure. It will be "done" when I can take a shower.

Nothing much else to report.

Good Tuesday afternoon to All! It's 66° on the way to 67° today. Already back from the range, Breaking in a new Bergara H-14R rifle. It takes about 700-750 rounds to get it settled in and to make ammo testing reliable.

Probably too late to suggest but we switched to shutters after we renovated the house and we LOVE them instead of blinds. Easier to change orientation, maintain and give the house a totally different feel.

Yes. We are getting estimates for both and for the half-moon window in our bedroom. If we do the half-moon we will need to install shutters on the other two windows to match.

Wifey wanted the shutters even though they cost more BUT, she’s completely happy with them so (…and I shutter to say this…) cost was not a real consideration ‘cause Happy Wife = Happy Life so hadda do it.

Of course ymmv. Whistle

The latest MRI for my sister brought bad news regarding her brain cancer...the tumor has grown about 35% since the last MRI was taken before her radiation treatments started near the end of May...only 6 months ago. There is another small lesion near the right temporal lobe. Her neurologist isn't sure whether the growth is usual or whether the radiation may've caused it. So she is basically out of options. He's suggesting a "Hail Mary", prescribing a pediatric cancer drug that is designed for other neurological cancers. The medication has major negative side effects.

Her mental faculty has dramatically worsened where she is non-responsive/catatonic on some days and her physical functions have declined to where she can not feed herself, and remains wheelchair bound. We all don't want to subject her to a wishful drug that may reduce her quality of life further. We're not sure if she understood our explanation about her present condition and the suggested drug treatment, but gave her some time to think and decide...Very discouraged...

Cancer is horrible. It attacks all walks of life. It doesn't care about your race, sex, age, or economic status. The medical field has made great advancements in treating it and hopefully they will eventually find a cure.

Prayers go out to you, your sister and your family.

Computer monitors are inexpensive these days. I recently bought one on Amazon for like under $75 (24 inch LED, 1080P), but only 75 Hz - unless you are a video freak or a gaming freak 75 Hz is fine. Black Friday deals are in the swing and will be going on until Christmas. You'll be able to get LED monitors and TV's low to mid range for dirt cheap.

Friend of mine dropped off a Dell tower that he had no use for, It had Windows Vista on it (puke) so I scrubbed it and put on Windows 10 (wanted to do Linux or Chrome OS but most average people don't know how to use Linux of Chrome OS). It needed a monitor, keyboard, mouse and USB WiFi dongle to get it up to standard. Maybe cost me about $150 and a couple hours of work to install the needed OS, apps and stuff but it's solid and running. It just needs a new home to donate to someone in the area.

I need another computer like I need another hole in the head but I'm happy to take older ones. Upgrade them and give them away to people that need one. If I have it and don't need it, then it's yours to take.

Usually they just need one to surf the web, do email, the MS office stuff, online school and simple stuff like that. These don't require a ton of RAM, a ton of storage space, large processors or video cards. Simple things for simple tasks.

$hit the most basic flip cell phones have more computing power than what was used in the space modules to put the first man on the moon. Just think about that for a minute. We have come a long way win a short time.

Car battery started sounding like it was dying this AM, and it's about due to be replaced. Went to Costco (where I bought it) and jokingly said I was there for the free battery swap program!

The guy behind the counter said "OK" and gave me a brand new battery for only the $5 environmental fee...

Apparently, Costco used to FULLY warranty their Interstate batteries up to the stated warranty, so if you came up short, blammo, new battery for free. My old battery was bought just before they changed the warranty to a pro-rated one...

Nice! My Honda CR-V battery died after only 18 months, so I complained to the service manager, and they sent me a $250 gift certificate. New 60 month battery cost $170 installed.

I swear we only get 50% of the service life of batteries here because of the heat...

Glad Honda took care of you.

Keep waiting for my wife's battery to go out. It's the original battery date marked 2015. Last year it seemed a little weak in the cold but the car is rarely cold. Wife only does short trips and the garage is heated. If I take her car to work that's the only time it sits outside and gets fully cold.

I should just change it now while I'm thinking about it but I'm gonna wait until one of us is stranded in -20 weather to deal with it.

I have any drivers in my family that buy a AAA Plus membership (boring gift and it's one of my Christmas presents that they hopefully don't have to use). I think it costs around $100/yr. If they get stranded with a failed battery, blown tire, or another mechanical issue the plus membership will tow up to 100 mi it at no cost. Jump start the car, deliver you a battery, deliver a gallon of gas plus other discounts that go along with AAA.

When I had a long commute to work and back, AAA came in handy when my battery died at work (some 50ish miles a way). Also had to call them to tow a car home from an accident I was commuting with a friend/coworker and got into an accident in commuter traffic Nothing major cut the car wouldn't fire up. No worries, I'll call AAA and get the car towed home and we can ride in the cab of the tow truck. Then I can have it towed to the car mechanic (I think AAA Plus allows up to 4 tows per year).

Never had an issue with AAA with my limited experiences with them.

Paid for AAA Premier plus RV for 3 years.

They left me stranded the 2 times I tried to use them. Once was 8 hours of "A truck's on the way" and I call back in an hour, 20 minutes on hold, "a truck should be there shortly" couldn't/wouldn't give me the name of the tow truck company. Finally arranged for someone to come up and get me and the camper, called AAA again and they said they're having difficulty finding a tow company to do the job. The other time was a simple dead battery at 8am on a weekday. Couldn't get anyone to come give me a jump. Wife came after the boy got on the bus 3 hours after I called AAA.

So the $120/yr I paid them got me nothing and $360 would've gotten me a tow truck and probably both calls for service.

I can only speak from my limited experience with them. I haven't had to use it for years but when I did, the towing companies have been reliable and showed up within an hour. Maybe it's my location and/or the towing shops that are in the AAA network in the northeast region.

I still think it's a reliable membership for me and my kids About $100 for the yearly plus membership per person. It pays for itself if you need to get roadside assistance or a tow. A tow for 100 miles would cost me multiple $100's of dollars. If I don't have to use it that's a good thing.

Again, this is just my limited personal experience and I can't speak for others. I also see it as a safety net if my son breaks down on the road. I would rather have it and not use vs needing it and not have it

Morning folks. My experiences with AAA have all been positive so I guess it just depends on where you live. When the battery died they were dispatched within 15 minutes and sent a text to show the ETA and rout that their truck was taking. Kinda cool to see him coming mile by mile.

A little drizzle this morning but those 5 miles won't walk themselves. On it!
