Well... the day started awesome. Rob hooked and landed a 24 pound yellowtail. Biggest yet on my boat. A seal came rushing toward us, and we were like... "Nooooo", but the fish was too big for him and he left it alone.
Followed that up with 4 consecutive bonito, and the day was looking good... was.
Radio chatter said the skipjack and yellowfin tuna were 3 miles west of where we were... so we went, and they were there!! 10 boats, 2 of them charter boats, and lots of fish being caught... except by us. I hooked up twice and came undone both times. Rob hooked one and came undone as well. They wanted anchovies... and all we had was sardines and jigs.
That's fishing. You never know...
We likely would have done very well had we not chased after the tuna, but you gotta take some swings.
