Mag - If we had "proof" that they still had WMD then the burden of proof is on us to support our claims, that's why this is such a big deal.

It's not that I trust Saddam, I think he is a piece of $hit. The point of the whole argument is whether or not our government falsified information in order to start a war.

The intellegence agency isnt Democratic or Republican. Why is it questioned or not trusted under this administration, and not during the last administration?

Why was there not the bashing by Libs of the Clinton administration when they used the same agency, and bombed an aspirin factory?

Libs dont want to be patient and give the time needed to find the WMD. Saddam had a hell of a lot of time to hide them, but you dont want to give much time to find them.

And believe me when I say, that when they are found, there will still be some jackasses that will think its a trick or something, you wait and see. I said it 1st!

The libs are right, when the Israelis bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor, Sadam gave up his dreams of an Islamic bomb… Surely! And the chemicals he used on the Kurds? Of course he used the last of them to kill the innocent women and children (by the 10’s of thousands)… Surely! And of course, his bombing for dollars campaign, where he gave thousands of dollars to the families of “martyrs”, that was never sponsoring terrorism… Surely!

Your right Rick lets send everyone home because we did not find what we are looking for. Lets get them back because obviously they are not meeting the time frame set up by our "one hour television show society". This might come as a shock but finding things which are hidden does not just happen over night. I know on CSI and Law and Order things get resolved in a quick and efficient manner so it must be that way in real life also. Give our troops the time and support they need to get the job done. Obviously everyone in California wants something recalled.

Robby - don't change the subject, I realize Saddam was bad, but I also want to make sure that we were given truthful information. Why is that so much to ask?? If we find WMD then good, but If we never find them then is it ok to question the administration on their reasons for war?

I say yes, but if thats how you think it should go, then why have you and others pressured the President right off the bat for proof, without much time to look?

If Saddam had bunkers so deep underground that even a nuke couldnt kill him, then dont you think that they had probably gone to extreme measures to hide weapons?

The WMD could be in such a bunker also, dont you think? Wouldnt that make them VERY hard to find in a short period of time, unless we got lucky? I havent heard that we have even found Saddams bunker! And we know there is one somewhere.

In my opinion, this pressure that has been put on the Bush administration, is for political gain, to try and discredit him just in time for the election in 2004. I think most folks see right through this.

Have you heard any Libs political platform for the next election? NO! They would rather Bash Bush than compete on principles, and ideas.

GWB said that this would be a slow and tedious task. He never sugar coated any of it. He said it would be difficult from day 1, could take time, and it looks like he is right.

In my opinion he has told it like it is, and is sticking to his guns about it. He isnt changing his position on this even if it isnt popular to many, just to win over others to win the next election.

Last thing. Even though on this thread there hasnt been the comparision to Viet Nam, there has been this sort of talk elsewhere. I heard on a talk show that in Viet Nam 300-500 soldiers died each week!

Any deaths are bad news, but to compare this to Nam is crazy! More guys died in each week, than have died throughout this entire conflict so far. I hope it stops soon, real soon.

On the political spectrum I’m somewhere to the right of Ghingis Khan, so I just had to say a few things in response to this post:

[1]. The area where U.S. intelligence was incorrect was the assertion that the Iraqi people are well educated and hard working. Nothing could be further from the truth. As anyone can clearly see from the nightly news, or hear on the radio, they are lazy ingrates. Trash and broken-down vehicles fill the streets. Instead of forming teams to restore municipal services and rebuild their infrastructure they are whining about the condition of their country and about not being paid. If they are unwilling to work to get the water and electricity flowing then they deserve to be hot and thirsty.

[2] The entire country of Iraq was a weapon of mass destruction. Any terrorist who said the right phrases and did the right things could expect some kind of help from Saddam’s regime. Safe passage, refuge, medical aid, money, training, guns, ammunition and explosives were available from Iraq. This has been proven and reported by American media. The threat from Iraq is now diminished and I for one am thankful that our President had the nerve to try and stop the threat before Saddam did something worse, or aided in something worse than 9/11. Moreover, I’m thankful for the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who have carried out the President’s orders.

[3] American soldiers are dying daily in Iraq. My heart aches for every family that receives word that their son or daughter has been killed there. The problem, however, is the Iraqis, not the Americans. I personally believe the military response to the ambushes has been too mild. The Iraqis still think we as a country are soft and that our politicians can be cowed into retreating. If I were Commander in Chief, the B-52’s would be on standby and there wouldn’t be two bricks left standing together within a mile of an ambush site.

Stop beating on W. Stop giving our country’s enemies reason to believe we can be defeated.

don't be snotty. the troops are going to f**ked when they get home anyway. their medical has been cut already and if there was no little uproar they would not even be getting hazard pay. declare victory and let those animals kill each other. we are losing young men on a daily basis. tell me why. tell me real slow so that i can understand you.

Mag - How did we have proof then that they had WMD? If they're so well hidden then how did we know beyond a reasonable doubt that they were there? I'm questioning the proof before we went to war and the lack of substantiation for previous claims, especially given the recent political uproar for proof.

Why is it so unreasonable to question the government, or to question the administration? Last I saw we weren't in a dictatorship! Dissent is a necessary part of democracy.

If any of you want to take every statement our government and the administration says as fact without using your own minds then I guess this discussion is pretty worthless.
