But us subsidizing Oil companies to the turn of trillions of dollars a year - you're good with that, right?

Brewha wrote:

Absolutely not. The government doesn't need to be a nanny, nor does it need to "subsidize" anything. The less the fkn government does, the happier we'll all be.

You mean the money I contractually earned, and worked for, as well as put myself in danger for 33 years? No... no, I think not.

You do understand the difference between actually working and earning a pension as opposed to the government just giving you a handout, right?

Funny thing... all the taxes I paid (and still pay) contributes to the pension they give me.

Does that qualify as "a silly comparison of incandescent light bulbs vs LEDs or seat belts or some other irrelevant comparison"?

Asking for a friend...

So as I close out my free month of Tesla Full Self Driving, Tesla lowers the price to rent for $99/mo (half price) or buy it for $8k (was $12k). Tempting.

It is a bigger cup of awesomeness then even I would have believed - much less what DMV (who does not believe even his own hair loss) would. But in fairness, I have never driven around in a 1972 F-100 and made my own "naturally aspirated" fart sounds.

Damn thing even handles other bad drivers driving badly. It aggressively takes the flashing yellow left turn. Where was this when I was in my 20's and one-eyed if home from the bar?

It's fargin magic.

Here's a fact that maybe you don't know or neglect to acknowledge: all electric companies get government subsidies too. I don't mind paying the going rate for what I consume for energy. But then to blatantly tack on additional charges for electric vehicles and solar charges - maybe you missed this important point - I don't own an electric car or have solar panels so why do I have to pay for something I don't own or use?

Shouldn't electric car owners be happy with the so called decreased cost of ownership and the solar panel owners be happy with the decreased costs of electrical energy source on their roof or backyard? Why should I have to pay a monthly cost for not using these items that I don't own or use?

Let's make another comparison and see if you can digest it. If someone heats their house with wood or pellets, should my or your heating bill tack on an extra charge because I or you don't use wood or pellets to heat our house? Little tidbit... wood is a renewable energy source.

I won't hold my breath for a logical response since you seem incapable of doing so.

You should know that we all pay taxes that get used for a large number of different things that we don't personally use.

If I never bought gas, should my taxes subsidize Exxon? Yes, if it is in the overall interest of my country.

Should I complain about my tax dollars going to things I do not use? Maybe - it's the voting process and politics of what is best for the country. And no one - on one - is 100% happy about how taxes are spent.

So, you choose not to benefit from Green tax subsidies. Please, cry us all a river.
Just be judicious about it; you would not want to look like someone who cares exclusively about themselves - or would you?

EVs have a ways to go. Government should not be picking winners and losers as they generally suck pretty badly at that, just look at Solyndra. Couple people coming to the rescue of the government bureaucrats pointing to incandescent lights as a win for government mandates; but they lack the historical context. Government forced CFC bulbs onto the public years back and then discovered that they had small amounts of mercury in them; they also were touted to last for years and ended up burning out within weeks or months. Mercury in the home - great job Washington.... When it comes to Government, color me skeptical and for good reason. The main issue with EV's here in the Midwest is range and charging. Range is decent nowadays, but you have cooler weather here and that saps the range. In town is ok - then you can charge at home. Road trips are another thing - jury still out on that. The bloated infracstructure bill had something like 4.5 billion in spending for hundreds of fast charging stations, the rollout of that bloated program by Biden and team has absolutely sucked. There are only 5 completed charging stations after 2 years....FIVE. There remains a looong laundry list of materials that are going to limit EV's; haven't even mentioned the electrical grid, battery replacement cost, electrical cost going up, etc. Until I hear about several modern nuclear plants being built, EVs are destined for mid 15% range in market share......no matter how irate the screaming old man gets.

I agree that our governments mandates to increase gas mileage and stop using leaded fuel are generally hated by most Americans (I mean who doesn't want an original Hemi?). In fact American classically have all government mandates - I mean, name one we all like.

But the Big 3 EV makers have nothing to do with Biden mandates.

Number 1 by a landslide is BYD - Chinese
Number 2 is Tesla - Biden won't even mention them cause they are non-union.
Number 3 is BMW - Not a US company

I don't see evidence that the reason every major car manufacture is retooling to go electric is because of US proposed mandates.

So why are Europe and Asia moving so fast to EVs?
