Lock Stock & Barrel - Not typically a rye fan. This was different and very interesting.

Evan williams 1783

Big ups to everyone that's been recommending this as the best bang for ur buck bourbon. This is my 2nd bottle and I'm prolly gonna end up stocking up by the case. In case they decide to raise prices.

Definately a top value......IMHO few things distilled at Heaven Hill are anything but superior products.Elijah Craig being at the very top of the under $40 list.

As far as wat ron said about heaven hill, Elijah craig 12 doesnt do it for me. For the same price, I prefer the HM 10yr. I have a EC 21 I got myself for christmas so we'll see how it pans out

Had an impromptu whiskey tasting after Lodge last Weds.

Bullitt, Makers, Beam White & Black, Shine, Buff Trace

and Beam Maple. Wicked sweet. It actually would taste good on pancakes or french toast.

been searching for Weller 12 (carried locally but out of stock), Dickel 12 or Barrel Select (no luck), OGD 114 (nowhere to be found but a couple places said they'd look into it) and EW 1783. Well I bumped into the EW 1783 tonight and snagged a 750 for $18. Just took a taste neat and I am amazed. Super smooth, minimal heat on the tongue and cheeks, more like nice spiciness, late warmth on the way down...this might really be not just the best value but dam good bourbon at any price too. When this is gone, I'm going back for the 1.75 ml at $29.

OK, just tried a taste w/ a splash of water...much better neat. I'm staying around the manor tonight, any cigar type suggestions to go with my new friend Evan? I'm thinking something just a little spicy to match rather than trying to contrast.

Makers Mark 46. A little sweeter than my usual Jim Beam Black, but very nice.

frankj1: Try a MOW Virtue with your Evan.

I thought you would like that EW 1783.I am amazed every time I drink it....that much quality for that price. The handle makes this an Unfrigginbelievable deal.IIRC the handle here is like $26 or 27......Rockin deal.

If you do not find Dickel 12 or OGD 114 pretty soon let me know....I owe you anyway. The Barrel Select has been rare around here for a while.

I really should keep the handle around as the house bourbon.

I love it too.

and my hot streak continues, as I'm all over the boards with great things happening to and for me. I told Fiddler I am so lucky and he corrected me and said "you did mean blessed, right?".

well, hardly of the magnitude I have become accustomed to happening, but an hour before the Pats game I decided to check a small, nearby little liquor shpo. Lo and behold, on the bottom shelf...OGD 114! Manager said he got some in a week ago. $28, may not be the deal you guys get elsewhere but I'm pleased.

It's breathtaking, but just as smooth and drinkable as Bakers 107, can't believe the price. It says Lot #1 for what it's worth. I believe this is a sit-yo-azz-on-the-rocker-you-ain't-goin'-nowhere bourbon.

Think later I'll sit outside on the rocker and pour a real one to go with...maybe another DL452? not sure. Maybe a ZRX cigar!

Glad you found the OGD 114 Frank.I was amazed at the similarity to Bakers........and at about half the price.I think it's $22 or $23 here.Hell even at 28 I think it's a value.

BTW it pairs fantastically with the DL 452......I've done it several times.

Enjoy my friend.

Beer Yep Frank - drinking the Evan again - they can say what they want about the price range, but IMHO it's a better mixer than jack or jim...

yeah, I can. I know you are messing with me but the Pats were a flawed team that benefited from excellent coaching this year. Hard for haters to grasp but this year's team made me prouder than some others they've had that were loaded with talent. They had a pretty good shot at going to the Big Game despite who ended up on the field playing for them today, which is more than 98.2% of the teams can say. And they will be in the mix next year too, for like the millionth year in a row. That's all you can ask in this age of parity. Only one team has been on the edge of the ultimate prize year in and year out for this long and every GM in the NFL is envious of their organization. No "rebuilding" period for like 13 years. Unreal in today's game.

Ew single barrel '03

Ron mentioned before that he would rather get the 1783 for cheaper but I think the single barrel adds some dimension. Either way, imo they're both good.

I want to try the SB 04........early reports say it's the best to date.Maybe slightly sweeter than the 03 or 02 but reportedly the best to date.
