Up at 4:30 to catch a early flight into Chicago. I seem to have caught a head cold which is going to make the flight interesting. I usually suffer from extremely severe headaches when descending. Thought we had it under control with nasal spray and decongestant tablets but with a cold this might be my worst nightmare.

That doesn't sound like a good time.

lol...appreciate that.

sorta like vasectomy or colonoscopy, I guess?

the dread and anticipatory worry are worse than the actual procedure....?

Had that for a front tooth... it had gotten damaged in a drunken brawl and I didn't notice for a long time until the tooth had died, gotten infected, and the infection had chewed a small hole in the lower jawbone. They had to drill the root out, clean out the infection/pack it.... the bone grows back.... But a surgeon had to go in at a later date because they'd missed a pocket of infection by the lower root that caused puss to come out through my gumline....

fun times..

You are worried for nothing. They will numb you up. You sit sit there like it was a cavity being filled. Just make sure your endodontist uses binocular/microscope glasses (per my dentist).

I've only had a colonoscopy...by comparison, the scope was better than the novacaine shots and the drilling...it was a relief when the dentist inserted the artificial root, though...

you've taken care of your teeth, Dave, if you've gone this long and never needed a root canal...

Your dentist inserted an artificial root into your colon?

.... I think you should have gotten a second opinion first.

lol....thanks, Al.

Good genes, more so than good dental hygiene... couple small pit-cavities is all I've ever needed work on...

Except that day in boot camp when the Navy dental doc took four wisdoms in one sitting --- two needed to be drilled into smaller pieces to get yanked out....I've had a less-than-rational dread of dentists since

not every dental procedure is as painful as rear molar extractions...those are high on the list of my most painful memories...if you survived those, you'll find a root canal a piece of cake...

They took all four of my wisdoms at the same time too... was funny tho... they sent me home with a habful of valiums and told me to take right before i come in.. so i did but then i was technically under the influence and couldn't legally sign my paperwork stuff... so they gave me more valium and said come in early tomorrow, sign then take them... I remember my wisdom teeth.... super easy... they were mostly exposed already. Just a pop-pop-pop-pop and all 4 came out in one piece... I was eating chinese that evening. Made a necklace out of them that I had for years until some ex took it.

too late to help now but I always fly with something called air plugs or earplanes...look line screw in ear plugs.
Put them in 20 minutes before take-off, wait until plane reaches altitude to remove. Put them back in 20 minutes before landing, remove on the ground.

has stopped or at least minimized what used to be tremendous sinus pain and ear aches that I started to get when flying in my forties...

Made it home just under 4 hours, uneventful drive.

Today is sunny and 90 degrees. First nice day, and it's the end of the trip. Oh well.

Now back to chores.

Had 2 done when I was 18... Went into a dentist office through a side door at like 7 on a Saturday morning...

A little novacain, no pain meds... Dentist was a 5 foot nothing 100 pound young lady...

I kid you not, she leaned me back in the seat, climbed on top of me in the straddle position, and then proceeded to yank both teeth with a pair of vice grips that looked like they'd been purchased from home depot that morning...

It was a confusing time in my life... for me and my ****...

Thanks Frank. My doc mentioned these years ago but he didn't think they worked very well. At the time I was afraid to fly anywhere and I looked a few times at local stores but did not find them. I'll check them out on the web.

Since we found the meds the only time they failed was when they were past expiration date.

I've bout them at CVS type places, and paid more once or twice when I forgot to buy and had to grab them at the convenience/news stand in the airport terminal.

I don't have sinus issues ever, but they work for me. Never want to feel that pain again.

I will say it may also be related to the particular plane/airline. Still happens but less of an issue on Jet Blue
