It's no fun, that's for sure.

I'm 5 days/65hrs in and getting about 4 hours sleep a day. Got three more days scheduled but it'll probably end up being 5 more...

this is one of the rare cases in which you hope to end up with shingles.

Holy Xmas! Wandered through the B&M near the kid's campus and say a Gurkha Beauty in a frosted glass tube for the low low price of $30/ea. Managed to restrain myself

not really, it was a pretty constant painful "itch"(itch is not correct, it was more like getting stung by bees)...
Everywhere the rash showed up it felt like bee stings, and the rash was all over my back and chest....and add to the fact that nothing could come into contact or it really set off the pain....and I mean NOTHING, a shirt or sitting so my back touched anything was impossible...took a few weeks before I could lean back in a chair

Smoking did bring the pain level down a notch or two, the pain was sudden and sharp, like a bee sting, so you still got the jolt...the smoking kind of kept it from lingering, but the sudden sharp pain was the worst part....

Also, when talking to the nurse at Dr's. office, she told me to be glad it wasn't on my face....she said that was very very painful.....even the wind on your face can be painful

Gotta go to a wedding today... Wife's cousins son.. Rich kid wedding... More than 1000 guests...

This family has like 9 kids and there will probably be a wedding every year for the next 9 years... So I put my foot down on a couple of things...

One, I'm not wearing a suit... Never talked to this kid, couldn't pick him out of a crowd of 2, no suit... Plus, if I wear a $400 suit, I'm gonna look like crap next to the numerous semi-rich folk that are living well beyond their means... No suit....

Two, this is the only wedding this family is getting out of me... I don't particularly like weddings and I do particularly despise wasteful and extravagant expenditures of wealth aimed at showcasing the spenders ability to extravagantly squander wealth...

Anyway, I'm shopping for a suit... Figure if I'm gonna be doing this every year for the next 9 years I might as well look halfway decent...

went to a wedding last weekend...grudgingly...said I wasn't gonna wear a suit, IF I went at all....I'd rather wear some nice trousers and a comfortable dressy light colored Hawaiian shirt...

wife said she wanted me to go, and dressed nicely, somewhat formally.... the bride is our god son's sister (do they still appoint god parents?)... mother of bride was wife's BFF when she started teaching career, whom I've only met a few times, and whose daughter/bride to be I've never met....

so I went with my wife to the wedding... wearing a suit, embraced the mother of the bride and the bride as if we were BFFs, spoke at length with the two sons/brothers including our god son, whom I haven't seen in more than twenty years, but they recognized me....my wife and I were among the eldest guests in attendance...had a few ounces of MacAllen 12 yr Scotch...lotsa pretty young things to look at... sat at a table next to a pretty young thing who has a daughter the same age (about 2.5 yr)as my oldest grand-daughter....enjoyed myself sharing child rearing stories...

but I didn't wear a tie...a man has to plant his flag somewhere...

I've given that some thought...it is 20 years outdated, with pleated and cuffed trousers, loose fitting...but that's the thing: it's comfy...and it cost about $500-600 plus tailoring ... I'm cheap and it would be hard to give it away...

I do have a blue blazer, which is also relaxed fit, thanks to having lost a few pounds since I bought it...I could use the excuse that the suit needs dry cleaning...

I'm at the age where there aren't that many weddings to attend...a lot more funerals...and it seems acceptable/fashionable to dress more casually at funerals nowadays...

I love any opportunity I can get to wear a suit. I have 3 or 4 and so rarely get to wear them... One was even bespoke from a tailor in SF.

The cool waters of the kings river drift by lazily as the chatter of the thousand or so guests rises and falls with every start and stop of the 7 piece string ensemble...

Casual anticipation fills the air...

The strings have ceased, there is silence...

Suddenly and without warning the silence is broken - nay, shattered - by the squawk of a bagpiper playing amazing Grace...

He marched to center stage, finishes, exits stage left...

The string ensemble plays great is Thy faithfulness....

The crowd is silent...

More after this from our sponsors....

The family has begun their walk down the aisle... Unclear if they're going Armenian first Or alternating back and forth...

It is Armenians first, respect has been paid by the whites...

Grandmother, then mother and father cascade down the petal littered slope and take their seats, front row...

Great is thy faithfulness has ceased...

The strings pick up with Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus as white person after white person completes their trek down the aisle....

The strings are playing some straight up lord of the rings **** and little fairies throwing the remnants dead flowers own the center aisle....

The music has stopped, the crowd falls silent...

9 bridesmaids, 4 flower girls... The groomsmen, merely 5...

The pastor has begun... The father gives the bride away without reservation or protest...

any Armenian wedding traditions being worked into the ceremony...Armenian wedding songs played/sung...Armenian wedding costumes worn by members of the party?

we celebrated our wedding at a Chinese restaurant, with traditional 12 course wedding feast...my wife was required to change into a traditional Chinese wedding dress half way through dinner and make a grand re-entrance...my mother sewed the dress and managed a smile...

the wedding was less than a month after my father passed away, and Chinese traditionalists on her side of the family urged her to postpone the wedding to observe the traditional three month grieving period...wife's side of the family, who had invested a lot of money for the celebration at that point, refused...looking back at the photos, my mother looked sad in nearly all the photos...

cultural conflicts can be difficult to traverse...but we can and do manage...

I don't own a suit.

Or even dress pants.

I think I own 2 or 3 shirts with buttons that aren't denim or flannel, but they're a good 15 years old or more.
