Great post and story...

I used to hunt and trout fish ( at my grandfather's and uncle's cabin)in Bradford county ( not Bradford city) all through my youth...near TRoy ?? I think...on top of a mountain that had swamps then at the bottom was an old railway bed turned into a road with a trout stream next to it...

During deer season " it was nothing" to count 65-120 deer on the first day coming up the mountain(from the farmland below) headed up to hide in the thick swamp brush all day then back down at dusk...

At our cabin is in central pa..(from 5yrs old to 16 yrs old).we used to fish for native Brook trout all the time...we would cut off the Barb's and use bugs or worms with super long bamboo flyrods...it was so much fun, we always released them because they were only
3"-7" ...under the limit ...

How do the deer know? I think they lied about being color blind... a bunch of guys show up in bright orange and they head for the hills. I always wondered if they knew because of all the cars and trucks that would show up a few days before opening day. We'd shake the apple tree's and a horde would come off the mountain at dusk and eat all around us while we sat there with a few beers. Opening day, nothing, nada, even the squirrels slept in. The only time I ever saw wild beaver (have fun with that one) was up there. I love this state. I'm not a beach guy, I love the mountains and hiking through woods. Pennsylvania has all that in spades. I only have to drive 5 minutes away to see tons of deer, wild turkeys and the animals that live in the inner city if I go in the other direction!

Back to work.

Almost there.

Philipino nurse asked me last night "Got your eyes on that fishing line?" I told her I don't really fish, and it's cold out, just planning on doing anything except coming to work.

...she was saying "finishing line" like it's the end of a work stretch. Anxious

is diesel readily available in your neck of the woods?

I want a diesel. But I'm not sure I can handle the cost. Even used, gotta be looking in upper 40's/low 50's for a newer one. The cost argument is the only thing I have against a diesel. Would take a long time to break even on the 10-12k premium a diesel costs.

A gas HD will do the job, but it's a little more stressful and uses more fuel.

Buddy bought a 10 year old F350 diesel. Ran like a warrior until someone stole it. If you are going to tow heavy weight, you need to bite the bullet and get diesel.

Diesel is a 10k checkbox option from all three truck manufacturers. Talking new trucks.

Okay... just searched a RAM 2500. The Diesel is a $9,100 option. Still... $61k for a 2500 Laramie is pretty damn good.

I'd imagine a 2 year old truck could be had for $40-45k.

Edit: Okay... 47k, but the price is negotiable! https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/794420031/overview/

That's a nice freakin' truck.

I don't know that I'm willing to go with Ram though.

Well see. I'm just dreaming right now. I don't think I can go much over 30k.

Snow ending, rain starting - appropriate for National umbrella day. For Opie, he can celebrate NATIONAL CREAM CHEESE BROWNIE DAY. As for the rest of us it's not Festavus, but rather NATIONAL CLEAN OUT YOUR COMPUTER DAY.

The cummins diesels are sweet and reliable. The interiors are very plush. Ask 8track, Abrig or Delta about the comfort inside my former truck. Alpine stereo, all leather, heated n cooled seats, 8" touch screen. Why would you not go with RAM?

I mean... our motto is Ask RAM!

Check out some comparison vids from FLT (fast lane truck) on YouTube.

FYI, the new Rams are ****. No headroom, tons of problems at 150k miles, should be able to go at least 250-300k without any major repair.

Macs, I watch all the TFLTruck videos, usually what I'm watching when I'm in the garage with a cigar after work.

While a new one would be a contender, I really REALLY like their interiors, especially on higher trim levels, the long term reliability of the vehicle is a concern. I'm looking to buy something I'll use for 10+ years.

My father in law bought a 2010ish Ram 3500 dually for a shop truck and while the drivetrain has been reliable to nearly 300k with one tranny replacement around 180k, he goes through a set of wheel bearings every 18 months or so. Has had issues with electronics like switches and such for a long time. Mirrors my experience with my Dakota too. Long-term wear items seem to go sooner than they should.

My cousin had a diesel Ram 2500 06ish and had loads of problems with wheel bearings, transfer case, electronics.

A coworker had a diesel Ram 3500 and complained about balljoints, wheel bearings, and the trans gave out around 100k.

Another friend uses gas Ram 2500's at work and loves them, but they cycle them out at 5 years.

All anecdotal I know. But all my friends with Ford 3/4 and 1 tons have had much better overall things to say about their trucks, though the accommodations are more spartan. One buddy pulled the powerstroke and dropped in an old Cummins and a 5 speed with 300k on the chassis and is now in the 700k mile range and still loves the truck. Another friend with a powerstroke has only done regular wear items over 10 years and nearly a half million miles on the clock when he sold it and bought a Duramax. I know a handful of people with Duramax trucks and they mirror the Ford dudes, but only one of them tows heavy. Really only hear major complaints myself from Ram owners - but not about the powertrain.

I do REALLY like the giant megacab Rams. So much interior space. But the crew cab across all three is plenty roomy.

I've not excluded Ram from my search, as I'd hope they've sorted out the bearing issues. But electrical problems have plagued Mopar trucks since the 90's and I don't know that they're sorted yet for long term ownership. Maybe I need to reconsider long term ownership..

Understood, Danm. My experience with the truck was short lived. The interior, roominess, and overall plush comfort was beyond reproach. I only had it for a year and a half, though, since I sold my boat and the EcoDiesel has EGR issues. Mine was replaced at 25k miles and I don't think they have a permanent fix for it yet... so I bailed on it while it was still worth some coin. Paid 40k and got 30k for it 18 months later.

Only heard good things about the cummins. Was not aware of the bearing issues, but it's smart you're doing your own snooping on the various models before you make an informed decision.

Carry on, sir. Laugh

As a percentage of bodyweight I think I've put on less than her.

So what's the refund process like? Is there a number I need to call to get a postage paid return box?
